I now learned I am not a mature indie pop kid. Good to know
I’m glad we could get to the bottom of that.
I wasn’t home Sunday so I didn’t make crepes which means I missed your video as your videos pair perfectly with crepes and Mrs Butterworth syrup. No doubt you have been told that quite a bit. Really liked the sound of Delivery and Prism Shores. I’m pretty excited about Canada joining the US, I have spent a lot of time patrolling the shores of the Great Lakes stopping people from swimming over to our awesome nation. This should give me some more free time
It really just isn’t going to be the same without crepes drenched in syrup. I can’t believe anyone can stomach watching without a warm plate of crepes in front of them. From what I have heard it sounds like Canada is going to love statehood. Thank you for your service. Cheers!
Would prefer you showed all the Chinese, Thai or regional LPs. Love the artwork, pictures on those
I’ve got a couple record shop videos coming later that specialize more in rare Thai records. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Joanna Gruesome, one of the great band names. Also, I dig (a pony) your t-shirt. I'm old, I found The Gentle Spring enjoyable. I also liked Ex-Void. Lots to check out. Please keep up the Douche-a-sodes. (Not sure of the spelling) I heard the same thing, the bit about Canada becoming the 51st state, what a pity that would be, for Canada.
Thanks for hanging out. Joanna Gruesome is indeed a great band name. Glad you enjoyed The Gentle Spring. Hope all is well. Cheers!
Hi Sam, another stellar episode. I received my Prism Shores LP last Friday and really enjoying it, also dig their debut! I’m excited to get the new Ex-void record too. I will check out the others. Cheers! Matt
Hi Matt. Thanks for watching. Definitely think you would enjoy The Gentle Spring record. Cheers!
Awesome stereolab shirt!
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Sam, how can we miss you if you don't go away? Great to have you back. I enjoyed the Delivery. I think at times their accents and their sometimes mundane subject matter made me think a little of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. I'm also enjoying the upcoming Sharp Pins record. It's not coming out for a while but you can basically hear the whole record (minus two songs) on Bandcamp now. If Canada is forcibly yoked to the United States, I expect Prism Shores to flee to Thailand, too.
I keep getting confused by Sharp Pins - I read a review about Radio DDR months ago and The Snob discussed it on an SvD episode with me as if it were already released. Then I heard they had another album coming out and thought - three albums in just over a year? Nope, I guess it is just the official release of Radio DDR. Maybe they pushed it back at some point. I’ll probably wind up covering it, in either case. Thanks for hanging out. Cheers!
Last I heard, our new country Green Canapanama is absorbing California, Oregon, Washington State and Vermont ;) A rare time (and I mean rare) where I was already aware of two of the four bands your featuring. I listened to Delivery - Force Majeure on a long walk this past Friday. Prism Shores happened to be the first of two bands that opened for Quivers when I saw them back in October 2024. I've grabbed myself versions of Ex-Vöid - In Love Again and The Gentle Spring - Looking Back at the World as they both sounded promising. Myself, I have been enjoying the initial singles from Dropkick's upcoming Primary Colours album as well as the three new singles from Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory. Both of these albums (along with FACS - Wish Defense to complete the trifecta...I'm sure you're aware) are due out February 7th, so I'm looking forward to these. Welcome back!
I too am anxiously awaiting the new Dropkick LP - I haven’t sampled any of the prerelease singles (waiting to take it in as a whole). The floodgates on the new releases is certainly going to be opening up. Very cool you were able to catch Prism Shores live and with Quivers, no less. Would’ve loved to have been there myself. Thanks for hanging out and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Canada says No! Remember we invented Douching, and our military would last a whole weekend before being overwhelmed by the aggressive use of firepower, but think of the stories we would tell! I would like access to American shipping prices however as our dollar is in the toilet. I think Montreal and Quebec would hold out the longest, maybe an extra day
Welcome aboard. We think you are going to love the lower shipping prices & customs free travel to Greenland & Panama. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I wasn't aware of Ex-Vöid or Prism Shores, but loved the samples from the video--gonna give them a listen. Not sure if you felt this way, but yesterday (1/17) had an overwhelming amount of new releases. Did you have the Alpaca Sports or Luther Russell albums on your radar at all?
Glad you enjoyed the Ex-Vöid & Prism Shores. Yeah, sometimes it seems like the new releases come in waves. I do have the Alpaca Sports and Luther Russell on my list possibly for next week’s video. Thanks for commenting. Cheers!
I think Uncle Sam is taking this 51st state thing one day at a time. Greenland, however, is on the fast track. I would recommend taking your motorcycle riding one day at a time. Extremely dangerous...
It’s not mine - but it is an electric scooter. Can’t go very fast. I’m taking everything one day at a time for sure. It’s going to be awesome to be able to go to Greenland without going through customs.
@@TheVinylDouche don't let those tree hugging scooter shills fool you - they're as treacherous as any gas powered two-wheeled conveyance. One day at a time? How about one step at a time. Better safe than sorry
Three wheels. It’s practically a mobility scooter. 🛵 I’m ready for a life changing motorcycle event.
As a Norwegian I feel Greenland deserve to stay on their own, though they 1100 years ago were settled by Vikings from Iceland and Norway. Due to harsher climate and most likely trouble with the Inuits/Escimoss wandering in from the North, they vanished from Greenland ca. 1450. So when the danish ships came around visiting a couple centuries later, only Inut-people were left. That didn't stop the Danes from taking Greenland back, not an entirely nice story, and I guess many locals on Greenland desire Trump over Denmark, much because of history...
I've come to really value your recommendations. All of these sound awesome. Good luck, Canada 🙏
Welcome on board Canada! I’m glad you are getting something of value out of my nonsense here. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Cool looking store. Nice flip through. Cheers
Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Yep, a flippin' video. Cute young woman across the way from you flippin' as well.
A whole lotta flippin’ goin’ on for sure. Cheers!🍻
I'd love to go through that entire place and organize every record - alphabetically. Whose kok do you gotta Bang to find the Weezer records??
Yeah, this seems to be pretty common here especially with used inventory - broken out by genre but not alphabetized within. As long as you file Bob Dylan under “Dylan” and not “Bob” I will let you take on the project.
@@TheVinylDouche Cars before Cardigans. Plural s's don't count.
are you planning on being state-side in 2025? Your AZ records are probably all melted...
I wouldn’t rule anything out - but I am not sure. One day at a time.
@ you're so mysterious. Is it a green card type thing? Work? Family? A douche-head's gotta know... Hope you're doing well, whatever it is.
@CBCDs No green card required. I was born in Texas - unless we decide to give it back to Mexico I should remain a US citizen. But, I wouldn’t mind spending some time in Mexico. I really don’t know. I could go back sometime this year but I might not.
@ You are the VC's most interesting man. How far to Australia from there? Have you thought about going down undah to check out RVG, Stella Donnelly, the Amyl Sniffers, etc...??
@CBCDs I’d love to pop over to Australia. I’m taking things one day at a time.
Goodwill be damned.
Tough but fair.
Hi…have you made it to Wua Lau Records in Chang Mai yet?
Nope still haven’t made it up to Chiang Mai. I think there is a good chance in the coming months I will be able to visit. Cheers!
2:42 already missed a super rare awesome record yikes
This was a great listen. There were quite a few that I still haven't listened to. You're right, it's so hard to get to everything, there is SO much music being released constantly these days. Thanks for your lists. Here's mine: 1. The Joy Hotel- "Ceremony" 2. Francis of Delirium- "Lighthouse" 3. Lizzy McAlpine- "Older" 4. Father John Misty- "Mahashmashana" 5. I’m fortunate to have so many good shops here. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Also a very good Indie release. Mannequin Pussy - I got heaven (Epitaph)
Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
You both reference Teenage Fanclub a few times. Now I ask you, how cool is that? Love both Mammoth Penguins and Mo Dotti as well as several others. 72 minutes is way too long, 29 minutes is way too short, 40 -42 minutes perfect for both vinyl and cd, just my unsolicited opinion. Jangly/Twangy/Cool Noise video. Thank you, gentlemen.
Thanks for watching, I think I might prefer too short versus too long nowadays - but I guess it depends on the album. Appreciate you stopping by. Cheers!
you should really check out and possibly make a video on the album Urban Twilight by Oeil. It's another shoegaze album from like 2007 made by japanese artists. I really love both them and Asobi Seksu! I'd say my favorite song from urban twilight is strawberry cream but honestly, every song from that album I loved in unique and different ways.
I think you have phenomenal taste in music, and I am happy to have found your channel. I fell in love with the band Friko in 2024, and listening to Thee Oh Sees actually helped get rid of a clog I had in my inner ear for a couple years. Cleared it right up. Everything sounds better now. Keep rockin’. 🤘✌️
Thanks, much appreciated. I think Thee Oh Sees can cure a lot of what ails you. Glad you stumbled on the channel. Cheers!
I love Fake Fruit’s new album, and their song No Mutuals from their 2021 album is awesome. The other bands listed here are a no for me.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Very well done, Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
It's eerily similar to Jamaican reggae in the mid to late 70s. It seemed common then to get LPs that had 10-12 tracks, but only ran for 25-35 minutes, but 12" singles would often have the main track, an extended version with a toast (rap) and a dub version that would run for 40 minutes.
Yeah, I’m sure these things ebb and flow over time as well. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
I wonder how many people thought they were buying an Eels album called 'Being Dead' 😁
Definitely could happen.
Ok, here's a quick French lesson for you Americans who aren't forced to do French in school, like us Brits. Heure is French for hour. The French tend to not pronounce h, so heure is pronounced eure (somewhere between er, and ur). L' is a contraction of le (or la, depending on the gender they've assigned something. Hours are apparently masculine.) So l'heure is simply pronounced leure (ler/ lur). If you'd ignored the apostrophe and the H, your pronunciation would have been correct.
It definitely would have made sense for me to look it up before making a fool of myself - but I’m not sure it would have helped me to not butcher it in the end.
Great list!
Thanks for checking it out. Happy New Year. Cheers!
Damn. What an absolutely incredible list you have here. A lot of bands I had not heard yet, but am stoked to nerd out. WOW. Great taste, man. Look forward to following along for more. Cheers 👊🏼
Glad you found some albums to dig in to here. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. Cheers!
Thanks for the video guys! Enjoyed the contrasts between you two - I had been through Sam's top 75 (and picked up a bunch) but was not familiar with Wishy's Triple Seven - which seems pretty cool. Thanks for the tip. You raise an interesting point - how to balance the number of LPs i listen to versus those that I really listened to well. This was a terrible year in some senses - I bought a ridiculous number of new LPs but feel that I no longer listen to any of them enough to get more than a vague impression. As you both note, this seems to have root in both radio (8 yrs on a couple of smaller regional stations) and reviewing (much less). The other thing, which is possibly less encouraging, is that *maybe* they are not as capable of grabbing my attention....possible because of after decades of listening to new groups, its now much harder to 'light the fire' than it was years back. Dunno. Anyhow, really enjoyed the back and forth, as always.... cheers ps - the Alvilida LP would be pronounced "Say Day-Jah Lure" (french for "its already time").
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate the pronunciation on the Alvilda LP - my French is pretty lousy, to be sure. I definitely could see that over time one could find less and less lighting that fire. I know probably most people just stick with their old reliables from when they were young and don’t necessarily try to seek out much beyond that. Thanks for watching - hope you had an enjoyable new year. Cheers!
I can honestly say for the first time ever, I own both number 1s. Though neither a "douche" or a snob, I have to say that I totally relate. In the past year or so, I've spent so much time looking for new music, that I almost never have time to enjoy the good stuff I find. I have a lot if unopened records. Personally, I blame the Douche--for that and my meat stick addiction. Great work, guys.
Thanks for watching. Good to hear you were on board with our number 1’s. I am okay taking responsibility for your meat stick addiction. Hope you had a great new year. Cheers!
Since there weren't that many comments (yet)...after all of both of your efforts, it turns out I decided to leave a 'tome' of a comment (I wasn't planning on it...apologies in advance). I enjoyed your year-end summary and was happily surprised that you had...was it a 5 album overlap?...regardless of where they appeared. Therefore one of my takeaways will be: if you both liked these 5 titles, I will definitely give them a deeper dive (if I haven't already). I also really enjoyed the "debrief" at the tail-end; including the discussions about shorter albums (which I find welcome in the modern era). In the era of Reels, Shorts and TikTok etc, I think it's a response to shorter attention spans; both by the artists and the listeners. Those of us that try to "get to" as much new music as possible 'welcome' the shorter album template, with the caveat that the artists have boiled down their output to the strongest material (hopefully). Then something like the sprawling Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee gets released...which so far I was only listened to once in the background but found very strong...but 2 hours is a LOT to demand of a 2025 listener. It was interesting to hear each of your approaches to whittling down / bucketing your best of" lists, until in their ever changing states, you must commit to the ONE list. One phenomenon you did not mention, is all of the albums we discover in future years, that had we been aware of them, they would have easily topped our current lists. Factor in our own subjective experiences and the timing, that lead us to have a deep connection with some music, the whole exercise becomes futile. Lastly, I completely related to the discussion about essentially: music listening "balance". One simply cannot listen to everything that comes out; there's just too much new music being released. Everyone's situation is unique: level of interest, family, kids and other responsibilities. No matter how much time one has to devote to 'listening', there's always more output than one can find time for. I found myself thinking...can I ask Google's new Willow chip-based quantum computer to use its spooky predictive powers, to tell me what I'll end up liking, thus freeing me to listen to it more often. All to say, I too am endeavoring to find a new balance, so that I can still check out new bands/albums but also revisit the record already in my collection. Whenever I do go back to my collection, I seem content with what I did decide to acquire it in physical form (the good news), but always thinking (I need to spend more time listening to this). There's the rub...and there's probably a scientific name for this paradox...but....the more we try to add to our mental database, the less quality time we spend revisiting our favorites. I'll be 55 next month (age definitely plays into it), so I'm endeavoring (2nd time I use that word) to cut the fat"; slowly get my physical collection down to my "essentials" (which will also help finance my future "essentials"...another collecting dilemma) and try to be a bit more selective with the new 2025 albums I choose to check out. If you made it this far...Happy New Year to both of you.
Yeah, I am also all for shorter albums - but sometimes I feel like I am left wanting more, especially at the 20 minute or under mark. But, I also think some albums work better bite sized. Others, maybe not. I believe it was last year we discussed that it probably makes more sense to not make a year end list until many months later - but at that point even less people will care. I think there are some years if I redid now the whole top 5 would be different. But, it is a fun exercise to make the list - even knowing it is fluid. I find a lot of recommendation engines are good at pointing me back to music I already like and much less good at pointing me to something I have never heard of (that I actually like). But, that sort of thing keeps getting better over time. Thanks for hanging out with us and taking the time to comment. Greatly appreciated. Happy New Year. Cheers!
Mammoth Penguins are Great, and they played in a minor festival at the northwest coast of western Norway, on a boat actually, @indiefjord, not far from beautiful Ålesund (have a son studying there!).
Always great to hear from Norway and glad you dig that Mammoth Penguins record. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and for hanging out with us. Cheers!
Talk about an alley oop. I like eggs.
Fried in oil. Delicious.
This is crazy. I discovered you guys and closed out 2023 with your "best of" list from last year and here we are again. Some great choices in there.
Glad you stumbled in to us. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Incredible you put this together. I missed a bunch of your videos this year, setting intentions to do better next year. Don't know how I missed there was a new Being Dead lp but just streamed it and its a must have. The Beak struck my fancy as did the band, just before Robber Robber who I didn't know. Well done!
Hey Dom. Thanks for checking out this nonsense. The Being Dead really grew on me over time and I think I like it better than the debut now. Hope you have a lovely New Year. Cheers!
Highlight of the Year
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
THIS is the ranking i needed! Thank you so much and keep the awesome work
Thank you for watching. Cheers! 🍻
The Being Dead album has been playing on a loop in my head for months now, i love it so much - playful but smart popcraft, crunchy in spots, heartfelt harmonizing in others, sometimes in the same song… Shocked not to see it on more yearend lists - definitely slept on. Cheers!
Yeah, big fan of them. I feel like they got more attention after this one was released - but also agree they deserve more love. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Thanks ❤
Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Great list Sam a lot I’ve heard and love others I still need to check out. Not sure of order but my top 10 would likely include Real Estate, Nada Surf, Quivers, Mt Misery, Chime School, Umbrellas, Ducks Ltd, Jim Nothing , Best Bets, EggS. Happy New Year! Matt
Hey Matt. That’s a stacked top 10 for sure. Thanks for checking this one out. Cheers!
Thank you Mr VD for serving up a list where I get to explore for unfamiliar bands and songs, unlike with the lists of the usual suspects. My 5 fave tunes I've discovered here are Best Bets - Spooky Signals, Quivers - Pink Smoke, Humdrum - See Through You, The Reds Pinks & Purples - Too Late For An Early Grave, Marina Allen - Superreality (latter two pre-2024 but discovered here). Surprised Cuni didn't make it on.
Appreciate you sharing some of the tunes that caught your ear. Looks like Cuni slipped right by me. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Happy New Year. Cheers! 🍻
Hi Sam, Thanks so much for taking the time to put together such an awesome list! Was surprised/pleased to see Mo Dotti at #1 - I have about 20 on your list (mainly due to your vids), but am really psyched to get another dozen or so. So much music, so little time.... Hope 2025 treats you well! Cheers!
It’s always good to hear from someone getting a little something out of these videos. Too much stuff too little time, indeed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a great new year. Cheers! 🍻
I just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you devote to this. It must be a labor of love unless you have some meat stick endorsement deal you haven't disclosed. I watched this yesterday (Merry Christmas) and I told myself I wasn't going to react to anything outside the top 20. I do have thoughts about but I know you and the Snob are going to discuss it so I'll let it be. To be honest, I'm not sure if this was a good year or not. There were some records I really liked but I'm not sure if there were any super important bands of the future or if anyone, except me, will be listening to these records five years from now. Part of me enjoys having indie rock as a permanent subculture. But I'm not sure if any of these bands will ever break through to the mainstream and I don't know that's a reflection on the bands or the larger culture. Hmm. On the positive side, I'm looking forward to more entertaining videos in the new year.
Yeah, I imagine there is music being listened to by people that are 20 years old that we have never heard of that is more likely to break out and become mainstream. I just focus on what I happen to like (knowing that not all that many other people will). Whether anything breaks out to a more mainstream audience doesn't really concern me (although I wish them all the best). But, I understand asking the question of whether or not this was a good year. I appreciate your support and hope you had great Christmas and found plenty of delicious meat stick in your stocking. Cheers!
Still I'm glad now that I didn't comment more on the list. Having time to reflect, I'm a lot less concerned with where a record got ranked. I'm more concerned with drawing attention to things that are being overlooked in my opinion. And maybe that's the real point of it all--drawing attention to little gems that everyone else seems to be ignoring. Have a happy new year, Sam! May all your meat sticks be firm.
Thanks, only list I need right here...now just need to find my beer and meat stick
It wouldn’t be the same without a beer and meat stick, for sure. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers! 🍻 🍖
44 🔥
🔥 indeed. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Here’s my top 10 1) Fellini Felin- Oddy 2) Fazi- Folding Story 3) Soft Hearted Scientists-Waltz Of The Weekend 4) Junipers-Imaginary Friends 5) Yodelice-What’s The Cure? 6) Gwendoline-C’est A Moi Ca 7) Konstant-Unbandige Kinder 8) Elephant Stone-Back into the Dream 9) Post Industrial Boys-1971 10) Tim Bowness- Powder Dry Cheers!
Thanks for taking the time to share your list. I liked that Elephant Stone record - a lot of others I need to catch up on. Cheers!
