Challenging flight! Flying the TBM 960 from Richland, Washington to Bend, Oregon!
Join me on a thrilling flight in the TBM 960 as I navigate from Richland, Washington (KRLD) to Redmond, Oregon (KRDM) through dense wildfire smoke!
In this video, I take off VFR into challenging conditions, battling low visibility and moderate turbulence. You'll experience the "fun" of piloting through smoke-filled skies, and see how I adapt to the ever-changing environment while trying to locate the airport.
Watch as I share insights on flying in less-than-ideal conditions, and enjoy the breathtaking views (when we can see them!) on this unforgettable journey.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but is the emergency land button/dashboard wobbling up and down. Kind of dancing?
Yes. I just got the plane back from annual and hope that is improved!
@ thanks for the quick reply! I thought I was seeing things. Nice to hear they’re on top of it. Happy flying!
I think automation increases pilot work load with too much information, the old steam gauges are safer and have been proven to have a lower accident rate, and are far cheaper.
On taxiway on taxiway, i thought this shit happens only on PMDG, but it happens in real life too 😂😂😂😂
I'm curious.. do these things require a key or fob? Or do you just secure them by locking the doors?
No key or fob for start, just secured by locking the doors!
Any chance footage from passengers seat?
This is a childs plane. It requires no skill to fly. All the information is fed to the pilot who doesnt need to know anything. When the computers fail they will become a passenger. Im not impressed.
Which computer?
@@mkleczynski The Garmin is a display for computed information from sensors. The issue is that as you get better at reading data displayed this way you become a worse pilot when it all goes away. The GPS is a computed time signal from space. There is all sorts of computation being done for you. The TAS you see on the PFD is computed for you. You are becoming a shit pilot if you arent already one, if ever you werent one from the get go. Try not to get killed.
Bold to assume that a pilot is bad based on the aircraft they’re operating. I learned on gauges and paper charts and practice emergencies and failures of instruments often, including in annual 3 day SIMCOM training required by insurance. I also hand fly, especially when in a two pilot situation. That said, while your point of view is extreme, especially considering that nearly every aircraft manufactured in the last 20 years has some level of this automation, I understand. And that’s why I do all the things I just said I do. In the end, I firmly believe it improves safety if handled with respect for all the things that can go wrong.
That not one of the two airports in Chicago. Maybe DuPage but if so, he’s a liar.
Did flying the cirrus (with the Garmin avionics)help with the transition to the TBM?
Absolutely. Lots of commonality between G1000 and G3000.
Love your videos and great inspiration for me to get my own PPL!
Please make a video about your story. On how you started your cybersecurity company that led you to the success of owning an Airplane. We aviation geeks dream of having such opportunities. Thx.
FYI. Richland, WA is one of the three cities making up what is known as the TriCities WA. Population around 300,000 -- middle of nowhere doubtful. Fastest growing area of the state.
Nice video! Question: wouldn’t it be better to pick up the IFR clearance on the ground?
Seems like you’re a pilot so you know how difficult that can *sometimes* be. If cloud clearance were an issue, I would absolutely pick up on the ground. In this case, I could have flown VFR so elected to pick up in the air. That said, I wasn’t expecting it to take so long.
Currently in the throes of studying for my last 2 CPL written exams. For some reason your videos playing one after the other (on repeat at this point) in the background gets me in the zone and I can finally get some real good study in. Music just doesn't do it for me anymore. Thanks for sharing, please keep them coming! Earned a new subscriber. Cheers from AU.
Computer game
Great videos!, can you land with flaps on TO position?
Yes, can land without flaps, especially with icing but speeds increase.
"Use of phone by PIC prohibited during all aircraft operations"? Huh? No checking ForeFlight?
Yeah, directly contradicts ability to use an EFB. CYA, I guess.
What time did you take off? I like to try to recreate flights on MSFS Xbox X.
January 19, 10:50am take off. Enjoy!
Sure do miss your longer videos. Seems like a few months since you have posted one.
What is purpose of this vid.
I live around the lake, wish I saw you flying around
I'm watching your content from Poland. I have a few questions about tbm. Safe flight!
Pozdrawiam ;)
Keep up the great work, love watching the videos
Looks like a costly little cart you're having to pay for 😮
Just a beautiful sight! Safe travels!!
"Short runway, shorter flight." you should just drive
😂 agreed. Had to reposition the plane, though.
Just put a deposit down on the G7. I can't wait!
looks like when they built that thing they said, leg room? nah.
😂 a little tight, yes.
Amazing panel for a prop! At first thought it be small jet.
The way it shows the taxiway IDs is amazing.
i noticed that your glair shield (homesafe button) bounces during flight. is it that flexible? doesn't seem very sturdy.

Hey, bardzo ciekawy kontent. Aktualnie jestem na szkoleniu do CPL(A) i mocno zainteresowałem się turbopropami - szczególnie TBM i PC-12. Jest z Toba jakiś oficjalny kontakt np. e-mail. Mam kilka praktycznych pytań. Pozdrawiam!
Can i ask something, like anyone if the creator doesnt reply. Im 16 but i have no idea how people afford that kind of plane and fly it? Is he a milionare or is there another financing way idk about?
Lots of fun, thanx.
Not a pilot, but I love your channel. Keep up the great work!
I'm wondering what those continuous CAS messages are during the engine starting? I've noticed that they pop up in every of your videos.
There's a variety. You'll get the ignition CAS warning message, sometimes a low fuel left or right message, etc. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason either.
@mkleczynski Thank you for the explanation. Triggering CAS when there is no rhyme, as you say, could eventually lead to ignoring real one. Meaning, resetting the CAS buttons constantly might lead to not pay attention to a possible real one?
Huge difference between Bend and Redmond Airport. Redmond is the Main Commercial Airport for the Central Oregon area. I Just flew in from LA Last night into Redmond Airport.
I like both, and Bend is getting a control tower which will make it easier.
@@mkleczynski Yes I hope it happens that have been talking about the Control tower for a long time, but it has not come to pass yet.
I just read that they’re breaking ground on it this month! Exciting.
Great work and great cause! Working on getting my private pilot license and hoping to do that myself!
It is a busy air space but any other reasons you prefer KRDM over KBDN?
Zapraszam na Alaske, latanie tutaj to nie bajka :)
This airplane is a dream!! I wish I fly one like that one day 💪 nice video man.
Such a badass setup … keep the videos coming
next vlog?
Didn't record this one unfortunately!
Why do you keep changing the title of your video? Just fly the airplane!
Trying to satisfy all the haters and whiners, which is a no-win situation.
This title is pure clickbait - there was nothing "challenging" at all about this flight. If that were true EVERY IFR flight would be challenging. Why does your registration list you as a TBM700? Ten-mile visibility is VFR, but it was probably less than that if you couldn't see the ground. Note: some 500,000 people live in the Richland area, including me; if you want to be in the middle of nowhere go to Ely, NV where I fly my glider.
So beautiful
Me likey👍👍👍
Nuthin! Is right! And they're not DONUTS, right! Spuddies! Glad we're getting 2 more locations after all these years! My pops-in-law, one of the founders would be truly happy. The Boyz, Ryan and Mark are doing it right!!
All I know for sure after reading all these “helpful” comments is that I wouldn’t post a video of me changing a bicycle tire on their platform. Everybody’s a critic and every other person is an expert. I would think if you don’t like a video just kinda move-on. But that’s just me.
Tri Cities WA, 300,00 plus population of Bend Oregon around 25,000. Middle of nowhere LOL.
No Radio calls on takeoff, very unprofessional.
Richland has maybe 1 or 2 planes leave a day it’s a very very small private airport.
