Luigi's Mansion games ranked! Which is the best? Spooky special.
Просмотров 202Месяц назад
When Luigi’s Mansion debuted on the GameCube in 2001, it certainly wasn’t what most gamers expected from the flagship launch title of a new Nintendo console. The N64 launched with Mario jumping and star collecting across sunny skies, but Nintendo committed to the exact opposite for the GameCube’s debut. Luigi’s mansion delivered a literally dark, slow moving new IP without a single jump to be f...
Echoes of Wisdom - Two Issues Preventing Greatness
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.Месяц назад
Echoes of Wisdom has arrived on Switch, and gamers finally get to play as Zelda in a Legend of Zelda game. However, despite plenty of compelling elements, Echoes of Wisdom struggles with two design issues that cause the game to only Echo greatness, rather than fully capturing it. So in this video, we'll explore what those problems are, and some simple alternatives that might have improved the e...
Star Fox Assault - how much gameplay did it REALLY have?
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Месяц назад
Star Fox Assault delivered both action and controversy when it zoomed onto the GameCube in 2005. The game promised a return to action-packed Arwing missions after the slower Star Fox Adventures in 2002. But many players felt that Fox still spent way too much time outside of his ship. How true is this claim? How much Arwing gameplay - or even total gameplay - is there in this unique game? Let's ...
Star Fox Adventures is NOT a Legend of Zelda clone.
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
Star Fox Adventures is an unusual and surprisingly divisive game. Released in 2002 for the GameCube, this title from Nintendo and Rare wasn’t the Star Fox game many gamers expected from their next gen lunchbox. Many were quick to label this title simply as a Zelda rip off, a sentiment I don’t really agree with. So in this video, let’s examine why Star Fox Adventures is not really a Zelda clone,...

A slow burn of rumors and speculation has left gamers wondering if we’ll ever see a similar treatment for Prime 2 and 3. Unfortunately, at this point a full graphical overhaul of either of these games might be unlikely, which we’ll discuss more in a moment, but there’s still hope on the horizon. You see...

In this video, we’ll explore specific factors that contribute to the timelessness of GameCube visuals, and look at a ton of games that demonstrate these concepts. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Will they return?

Will fan favorite species from the original Metroid Prime trilogy will return in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond? Metroid Prime games are full of world building moments for different civilizations, whether it’s first stepping foot in the Chozo Hall of Elders, meeting U-Mos in the great temple of the Luminoth, or landing on Bryyo before the great Reptilicus creations. These forgotten details from past entries might provide a glimpse at future story and thematic elements, if we dig deep enough. Do the original games imply two mysterious alien species might finally be revealed and appear in Prime 4? What impact...

Metroid Prime on GameCube in 2002 was a stunning achievement and a showcase for the the system. With the recent release of the equally stunning Metroid Prime Remastered for the Switch, the original is quickly fading into gaming history. However, the original Metroid Prime is still a unique and visceral experience of its own - a game that is almost impossible to replicate today. There are still ...
One other Wii U game we need on Switch (Besides the Zeldas)

For years now, gamers have begged Nintendo for Switch ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. It seems as though these are the last two classic games locked away on Wii U that haven't made it over - but is that true? Are there other games we still need on Switch from the small Wii U library? In this video, we'll explore one other game that deserves a port, which is Yoshi's Woolly World...

So in this video, we'll explore why this game is still called...

it`s the art style, games now don`t do cell-shaded or "cartoony" graphics for some reason, but the simplstic art holds up always.. look at Beyond Good and Evil, that style at the time was very popular, animated animals like Pey'j were popular (like in sly cooper for example as well), then look a the trailers for Beyond Good and Evil 2 (a now probably dead game but still) and see how much more realistic they planned to do it and just shows you the shift towards "cool, realistic" graphics in gaming
I never liked the graphics on the GameCube.
it was a combination of sylized graphics + nintendo pushing hardware capabilities. nowadays only the 1st remains and nintendo is 2 generations behind in terms of hardware power.
DUDE. Mario Sunshine was so fun
I use the eon gchd and am very happy with the results
Looks sick i love star fox and really want to play these and also twilight princess and windwaker
So great 🎉
The problem with gamecube was that, while the games still look good enough to play, at the time of release, the two competing consoles had much better graphical quality. The cell shaded games were ahead of their time and were widely seen as Nintendo compensating for their much weaker graphical hardware. It also doesn't help when you demo a realistic looking Zelda game at E3 and then launch Wind Waker. There was definitely some backlash there. Overall, Xbox and Playstation 2 were seen as the more serious gaming consoles at the time; the graphics were better and they had much larger game libraries. That's not to say that there weren't any good games on Gamecube. There definitely were. There were just less of them, and the graphics did not look like as much of a generational leap over the N64 as the Xbox and PS2 did.
For your next video: S-Video cable. I got one for my GameCube and was pleasantly surprised it was backward compatible with my N64 and SNES. I definitely wished I had the Component cable, but I got one for my Wii and moved all my GameCube gaming to the Wii instead. I capture S-Video using a GV-USB2, but I've only used it for SNES so far. For missing games: I was sad you showed XGIII and not XGRA. I'm including this link for CryWolf, not trying to bump my own channel: ruclips.net/video/hr1lPNc1Umc/видео.html Such a great video highlighting GameCube, I love it! I'm gonna go watch the first one now. :)
Thanks for watching and sharing! I've actually never played xgra because I heard it was worse, but I've been meaning to find a copy to see. Unfortunately part 1 of this video wasn't captured on the retrotink but thanks for watching regardless, I'll check out your video. I've never used s video so curious to see
You might have also mentioned, that they look even better on a crt, especially when you output through an rgb cable, and that its impossible to really do them justice on a modern screen. The low resolution and the lack of anti-aliasing is really not noticeable at all when playing on a crt, especially if its one with a smaller screen. The last time I played Double dash on my Wii displaying on a 14 inch crt through an rgb cable I was seriously amazed by how the graphics didn't look dated at all.
Good point thanks for sharing, I do talk about this a little bit in the part 2 video because I realized it was a miss
@@crywolfplays Ah, sorry I hadn't checked that video out yet. And I forgot to say that this was a very good video also.
Thank you!
Luigi's mansion looks great on GC.
Luigis mansion 1 had the most soul. Each "Boss" had their own description, relationships and and and.. plus the story just made the most sense to me, idk best game by far haha
you dont need 200gbs worth of textures, nor path traced lighting to make games look good. especially since realistic graphics tend to age rather poorly. artstyle and some basic 3d rendering techniques are enough to make games look decent, such as shade smoothing, beveled edges, normal maps and basic global illumination that unifies texture tint. compare something old like tales of vesperia 2008 to a more modern tales game like xillia that is 5 generations newer and you will realize that polygons arent everything. what happened? they nailed vesperias graphics and couldnt replicated it since. booting up sunshine always feels fresh visually despite its age. i love gta san andreas, but man, did it age graphically in spite its gorgeous art style.
The great thing as well is if you uprender alot of wii games you get even more if the sane with better leg room
No it doesn't.
When I went back to play Mario sunshine, I was blown away by the water graphics. Looks so good
Lol same it's crazy
I got a Gamecube a few weeks after launch but before that Best Buy had a demo unit. I played Rogue Squadron 2 and it blew me away. I couldn't believe graphics could be that good at the time. Then again I was going from playing the PS1 version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 to that. When I got my Gamecube Rogue Leader was my first game, all my other friends got Luigi's Mansion though.
I had a similar experience, I got smash bros and rogue leader first and they blew my mind when I first saw them in kiosks after n64
I want a new Wave Race ( and Pilot Wings ) so bad.
The two towers and return of the king need remasters!!
100%
Really nice video man.
Thanks I appreciate it
Wish TOTK ran that well 😢
The Gamecube produced an amazing game feel, too. Games felt crisp, fresh, and responsive. Both Kirby Air Ride and Smash Bros. Melee share the same engine and both are one of the tightest, snappiest games around.
Sad that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is not featured in this list. It had both amazing graphics and art style
A lot of Gamecube games look like modern titles running on a low graphics preset. Starfox Adventures is one of the best examples of this. A few touch ups and modernizations and it would look brand new.
That's a good way to describe it. And why gamecube hd remasters with minimal work would look amazing
Killer 7
Yeah, nobody really talks about how good Super Mario: Sunshine is… You ever heard of a guy named Dunkey?
Wow and there are so many games I never knew about. I had Xbox at the time but always admired the cube. PS2 was cool with larger memory and wireless controllers and blue ray but the games did not appeal to me like the Xbox ones. I think after Xbox 360 consoles and gaming started getting pretty dookie if you know what I mean.
Hell yeah the Gamecube. It had a shortrun but me and my buds played the hell out of Super Smash bros Melee. I played a tad of Metroid Prime and wish I played more because it was at a friends place. The only issues I had were the controls but I would love to play it today with an Xbox 360 converted controller and remapping. Also I noticed file sizes are very small and Gamecube had Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes too! Oh yeah I would even argue many titles like Rogue Squadron 2 and Soul Calibur which I played too hold up today. Gaming standards have dropped heavily in the last decade due to corporate scheming. I suspect we will never return to the golden age of gaming. I have created a video on my channel with a very different opinion on why the gaming industry has shifted towards mediocre garbage. Video titled : Gaming industry is dead discussion turns to rant.
It's not just the hardware, though it might have helped. Look at the xbox's Blinx The Time Cat, which looks and plays like garbage. Mario Sunshine came out about the same time and it still looks like a Pixar movie. Nintendo just puts the effort in that almost no other developer bothers to do.
5:15 Hey DJ! Gimme a fat beat!
LOL I always wondered if I was hearing that wrong.
Beaten Kaitos is still one of the prettiest games of all time.
Funfact The gamecube was stronger then the ps2 in terms of hardware. but the 1.6gb mini disc maybe its hard to make bigger games and better textures.
it came out a year later so they had time to make it 'slightly' better
F-Zero GX gave me my depression.
YOU still look insane in 2024
In 16 years we went from NES to Gamecube, the difference was phenomenal. Whats changed in the last 23 years? Unfinished releases, with patches. Partial game releases, with paid DLC to unlock the rest. Pay to win. Subscription, games as service
Publishers got extremely greedy. We're still getting amazing games today, but not nearly as often.
No mention of Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes THUMBS DOWN
Not one mention of Metal Gear Twin Snakes THUMBS DOWN & UNSUBBED
I wish they got GameCube games on emulators.
GameCube was amazing! I am so happy I chose to get it back then rather than ps2 or Xbox. However it was not even a question since I enjoyed Nintendo games even before GameCube
Gamecube an underrated legend amongst consoles.
maybe if they included a dvd player
Rogue Squadron 2 is insanely impressive
When i was little, Gamecube was my first console, and i loved it. Then my older siblings had a party at the house, and someone stole my gamecube. I was devastated. Then i got xbox, and then i switched to playstation 😅
I was raised by the gamecube. ❤
HD Texture packs for.. yes, the other way to play my GC games. I own the original from day one, and the games are outstanding. HD 4k.. is... another game changer. HD 4k for N64 is also out of this world cool. Try Mario 64 HD, you will think you are playing a Switch 2 title. The "architecture" is there, it is the "textures" that lack the detail given the storage size. Gamecube was big on changing to the Mini-Disc format, 2 discs in some cases. The texture quality, as well as the polygon as you mention, was outstanding.
It obviously wouldn’t be too hard to port over the motion controls to dual analog since the community has already done it. I am playing through Metroid prime trilogy right now on my steam deck with dual analog controls through primehack. If you use emudeck to install prime hack on a steam deck it even changes the button prompts to match the steam deck buttons.
Frankly, I don't care how they do it as long as I get them before Prime 4 and I can buy them physically. I missed these games the first time around, so I would love to play 2 and 3 before 4 comes knocking.
Yeah, it's fun to discuss but honestly I'd be happy to get 2 and 3 in any form playable on switch/switch 2.
@crywolfplays Agreed!
what about the splinter cell games
Pikmin blew my mind when I first got the gamecube
I think Pikmin is probably Nintendo's most underrated franchise. All four games also look amazing relative to their hardware
That Metroid Prime looked jaw dropping. I remember having seen just the start screen of it, which looks like inside a Metroid.
Metroid prime blew my mind in 2002, such a massive leap in world detail and immersion
I mean the art style is good but it is no where close to looking as good as now
