@@crywolfplays I believe the "clearing up" as you put it is tied to returning each area's stolen energy. Once you plug it back into the region temple, the state of the region changes. In so far as I can remember, and I might be wrong so take this with a grain of salt, this is what happens in each area once you beat it: - Agon Wastes gets brighter, and the lightning storm/flashing goes away. - Torvus Bog has its rain get less intense (the rain might actually stop completely, can't remember), also I think the water gets clearer/less murky. - Sanctuary Fortress's odd reversed digital rain stops.
@@greatswordofvictory1271 This sounds right - Torvus also becomes brighter/clearer because the clouds and storm are reduced like you said, there appears to be more sunlight. I actually thought these transitions were super cool because most metroid games have fairly static/unchanging environments. I also liked this about Dread, there's a bit of that going on there too.
Honestly metroid prime, echoes, and corruption were absolutely amazing. They look phenomenal. Specially on such an old console. The music .. the soundtracks are insane. Will be buying GCN asap to play these 3 alone. I miss them so much. Edit: I also would like to mention. The higher difficulties of this game don't play 👀
@crywolfplays you ain't even joking. Yet I enjoyed every moment of the struggle. Probably the first game that truly humbled me when I was a child. *Thinks about Odd World Abe's Odyssey for a moment* Nope definitely Echoes.
Quadraxis is still the single best technical boss fight in the ENTIRE Metroid history. Such a fantastic fight that forces you to use almost every single ability you have acquired in the game to that point.
After getting to love the Metroid games on the Switch, I went through the trouble of digging out and hooking up my GameCube, then ordering Prime 2 from Amazon, because I couldn't bear to wait for a port. And it was such a fun and refreshing return to my favorite console.
You might want to keep the game in case the Remastered version never get made or just happened to be a lazy port with no graphical enhancements like what the first game have gotten. I really hope either scenarios aren't the case.
I just started a playthrough of this game on a Wii using S-Video on a CRT, and after coming from Twilight Princess it's kind of staggering just how much better the game looks as a whole. Especially in Hyrule Field, Twilight Princess has a bunch of ugly aliasing on distant objects, very muddy textures, and it runs at 30fps that can have noticeable dips. None of those are present in Prime 1 or 2, everything is sharp and clear, and it runs at a flawless 60fps.
Metroid prime 2 Echoes is still my favorite Metroid prime game ever made. I love the more creepy atmosphere in this Metroid prime game I love both the light and the dark world design I love the enemies and bosses from both the light and the dark world.
I can relate to this. Every time I revisit echoes I think maybe it is my favorite lol. Ultimately I like the world design and nostalgia of the first game as my favorite but it's so close
@crywolfplays Right I know that feeling I think some of it is from nostalgia like I remember seeing the soldiers that were dead comes back to life I'm like wow this is a Nintendo game I checked the case to make sure lol I love the world design in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes it is very close between Metroid prime and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes I love them both Metroid Prime 3 corruption is probably my least favorite for how easy it is and the world design in that game isn't my favorite compared to the first two games. I feel like Metroid prime 2 Echoes gets too much hate at times compared to the 3rd game.

I feel like too much of Retro's time and energy went into the motion controls and giving into the "Cinematic push" of the later 2000s with the other consoles going all-in on that. My main issues with Prime 3 are that the first hour or two takes forever to get to the "real" metroid style exploration gameplay, but overall the world designs just feel either too simplistic or too segmented/chopped up versus the organic world exploration of the first two. It's still an enjoyable game but jut doesn't feel as cohesive and polished as the first two.
I recently replayed Prime 2 since it got a set on RetroAchievements, and I have been so blown away going back and seeing the sheer amount of detail in the game as an adult as opposed to only being like 10 or 11 when it first came out. I cannot believe what Retro Studios was able to pull off. I'll admit I was _not_ impressed with the remaster of Prime 1. I mean, I _was_ impressed with it on a technical level, but I was disappointed by the change in style and art direction. I hope that, if Prime 2 gets a remaster, it stays more true to the art direction of the GameCube version. This was a nice video to celebrate Prime 2's anniversary. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks for the feedback! I agree that going back as an adult years later is a different experience. I have a much stronger appreciation for what they accomplished relative to the available hardware and technology at the time. Although I loved Prime remastered I understand the change in art tone/style wasn't for everyone, it's why I still love the look and feel of the original. I do hope echoes remastered is a bit closer to the original style, even if they improve/adjust the dark world.
5:45 Oh yeah I was shocked when I saw that for the first time! imo, One of the most impressive parts about the game is..the pal version, like most pal GameCube games has no progressive scan support, but I genuinelly forget I'm playing in interlaced mode half the time regardless. It's that good. Need to get back to that hard mode replay. About to fight Jump Guardian. Amorbis gave me a lot of trouble on normal so I'm not looking forward to him. Always nice to hear you gush about this game!

I've never played the pal version but that's interesting to hear. I think I played the interlaced version as a kid on my CRT with composite cables, but that's a difficult comparison because these games naturally just look better on crts than modern displays in some ways. Surprisingly I have a couple other echoes videos I want to make lol
@@crywolfplaysUs Europeans also have to deal with the 50hz/60hz divide as well..but the weird thing about pal Echoes is that it ONLY supports 60hz, only 3 GCN games work that way. Not a big deal in 2024 but if you only had a 50hz tv back in 2004, you couldn't play the game! Interestingly, the manual tries to pass it off as 'We at Nintendo want the highest quality experience for our players' or something like that. Looking forward to more Echoes vidoes, cant believe this is 20 years old!

@@crywolfplaysYeah..we have it pretty hard, especially with games like the 4 Mario Party games that have only 50hz and aren't speed adjusted, so you're playing at ~17% slower speed to the rest of the world. I think that's why a lot of European players are so tempted to emulate pre 7th gen games tbh. I had never used the GCN pad prior to this year, but it does feel pretty good, the d-pad is awful for stuff like Tony Hawk though! Thx for the video!
Yeah for sure. I actually prefer the Wii version due to widescreen support and I think the motion controls actually work pretty well (even though I usually hate motion controls) but I wanted to go back and appreciate the original for its anniversary.

RE Remake is an impressive looking game. The main reason I would put Echoes about it is because of the pre-rendered environments you mentioned, although they look nice even today, I think Echoes feels more interactive and has more freedom to investigate all the details.
Xcube had some great games... Fondest memories are on N64 and the Gamebox. Nintendo really knew what they were doing, but its a shame they never fully capitalized on its hardware potential.
Echoes was incredible. I know people don't like the limited color pallete, and dark world, but I personally loved it. It gave the feeling of a dying world.
I can understand this view too - I think a remaster would have to be careful to not lose that original feel/vision. I really don't think the dark world is as "bad" as people say it is, even if I wish it had a little more visual "hooks" to make the early areas more distinct.
Prime 2 is my favorite game of all time. Everything about its world I found way more interesting and appealing over the first game which was also fantastic. I even love how oppressive the dark world made you feel when entering it.

I have the official Gamecube component cables. I have a Toshiba CRT tv that has component.. The TV only does 480i or 240p Any tips for getting the best image possible?
Thanks for watching and the feedback. I haven't used CRTs in quite a while but I wish I still had one, so I'm not sure of the best advice for that TV type. For my setup I use a GameCube with the HD Retrovision component cables, which are arguably the only 3rd party cable with the same quality as the official Nintendo ones (which are crazy expensive now). I also own a couple different converters from Retrotink - they make good stuff. This video was captured using the Retrotink 5x pro and then the Elgato 4k/60 capture card (though obviously this isn't in 4k).
Much of this game's beauty is thanks to lead concept artist Android Jones. Known from making mind blowing psychedelic art, Jones was perfect for establishing the surreal and out of this world look of the game.
I always felt like 1 looked better tbh. Both graphically and the environment. Idk though 🤷🏻 maybe I’m just biased cause I enjoy 1 way more than 2. I’m still hoping they release 2&3 for the Switch
Prime 1 is my favorite game of all time. I think echoes is more impressive technically and in terms of scope, but prime 1 I prefer the world design and I think it's beautiful in its own way even though it's a bit simpler. It's so nostalgic
Prime 2 was my first GameCube game and it is visually great but I think Starfox Adventures is pretty amazing as well. Yeah wish they the game would explain or talked about the ING Emperor more since it comes out of nowhere by the end if you ask me.
Echos is my fave Metroid game i still own a GC copy of the game the dark world is ment to be a dark foreboding refection of the light world hence the deep purples and reds used.
I don't know why we criticize Echoes for the map layout, the restricted ammo, and the unrelenting tension when that's what Resident Evil is celebrated for. Classic Resident Evil pulled heavily from Super Metroid and here we see the influence coming full circle. And you're gonna have me looking for some better gamecube cables now because my dolphin always freaks out when the torvus shriekers appear
Yeah good point, those elements don't bother me much at all and are fairly common in other games like you mentioned. This Metroid just leans a bit darker and more difficult. Pretty much my only issue with the game is the parts of the dark world that don't look very interesting. You can still find HD retro vision cables pretty reasonably priced. They are the only equivalent component cables to the originals
Gamecube has better graphics than both the PS2 and Xbox and I don't even feel like I'll need to die on this hill, it's just objectively the facts. Xbox doesn't have a game that looks nearly as good as Metroid Prime 1 or 2, Re4, Rogue Squadron and Rogue Leader, the list goes on.
I agree. I think this is probably the best looking game of the generation. I think Xbox graphics are kind of overrated, and PS2 was great but just technically quite a bit less powerful
Technically the graphics are amazing, I can't argue with that and it is probably the gamecube game with the most going on. But best looking is of course subjective. For me the OG Prime 1 looks more appealing because the environments are much more interesting to look at. Of course I acknowledge that Prime 2 can more and you are right with your video but for me it looks a little bland with the gray dark environments compared to Prime 1 that provide much richer variety on Tallon IV. On the PS2 the best looking game for me is Final Fantasy X despite being games out there that did much more technically but the game looks so nice no matter where you are. When I play Resident Evil 1 and 4, Wind Waker, Paper Mario TYD, Rogue Squadron 2, Prime 1 or Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube I have the same feeling, I like the graphics better but like I said, it's subjective and I don't deny that Prime 2 is probably the game with the best graphics on the cube.
Thanks for sharing, I can totally understand this. Prime 1 environments have a stronger nostalgia for me and I agree they're very visually appealing. Also agree about the other games you mentioned - particularly Wind Waker, that game is so nice to look at. For PS2 my favorite looking game is Shadow of the Colossus, which is kind of a technical mess in some ways but I think its still beautiful. I personally prefer the look of FFXII over X but they're both great looking games.

Halo and Prime received much comparison then, especially Prime 2. The Prime games just had so much detail with Elder Scrolls levels of lore. Amazing.

I'd say Resident Evil Remake is up there with Echoes as best looking GC game. Those prerendered backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous.

Prime 2 is my favorite game of all time. Everything about its world I found way more interesting and appealing over the first game which was also fantastic. I even love how oppressive the dark world made you feel when entering it.
I love seeing other echoes fans out there, it's so good.
I agree it's the best looking game on Gamecube. I'm impressed with your video quality of the game. I search for Metroid Prime 2 videos a couple times a week. I have the official Gamecube component cables. I have a Toshiba CRT tv that has component.. The TV only does 480i or 240p Any tips for getting the best image possible?
Thanks for watching and the feedback. I haven't used CRTs in quite a while but I wish I still had one, so I'm not sure of the best advice for that TV type. For my setup I use a GameCube with the HD Retrovision component cables, which are arguably the only 3rd party cable with the same quality as the official Nintendo ones (which are crazy expensive now). I also own a couple different converters from Retrotink - they make good stuff. This video was captured using the Retrotink 5x pro and then the Elgato 4k/60 capture card (though obviously this isn't in 4k).

Much of this game's beauty is thanks to lead concept artist Android Jones. Known from making mind blowing psychedelic art, Jones was perfect for establishing the surreal and out of this world look of the game.
I always felt like 1 looked better tbh. Both graphically and the environment. Idk though 🤷🏻 maybe I’m just biased cause I enjoy 1 way more than 2. I’m still hoping they release 2&3 for the Switch
Prime 1 is my favorite game of all time. I think echoes is more impressive technically and in terms of scope, but prime 1 I prefer the world design and I think it's beautiful in its own way even though it's a bit simpler. It's so nostalgic
@ I agree. 1 has such so much color and environment going on. 2 has a very grey/brown color palette.
Prime 2 was my first GameCube game and it is visually great but I think Starfox Adventures is pretty amazing as well.
Yeah wish they the game would explain or talked about the ING Emperor more since it comes out of nowhere by the end if you ask me.

Echos is my fave Metroid game i still own a GC copy of the game the dark world is ment to be a dark foreboding refection of the light world hence the deep purples and reds used.
Retro Studios did amazing, no one should be allowed to Remaster the Metroid Prime games because Retro created these! WTF NINTENDO!!!!
This and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles are the best looking gamecube games for me.
Find me another 2004 game which matches what MP2 does in Sanctuary Fortress with art.

The first one looked better...they really screwed up the reflections in this one. They screwed up the scanning graphics too
RE Remake 1, RE4, Prime 1 and 2, F-Zero GX. Easily some of the best-looking GC games
I don't know why we criticize Echoes for the map layout, the restricted ammo, and the unrelenting tension when that's what Resident Evil is celebrated for. Classic Resident Evil pulled heavily from Super Metroid and here we see the influence coming full circle. And you're gonna have me looking for some better gamecube cables now because my dolphin always freaks out when the torvus shriekers appear
Yeah good point, those elements don't bother me much at all and are fairly common in other games like you mentioned. This Metroid just leans a bit darker and more difficult. Pretty much my only issue with the game is the parts of the dark world that don't look very interesting. You can still find HD retro vision cables pretty reasonably priced. They are the only equivalent component cables to the originals

Gamecube has better graphics than both the PS2 and Xbox and I don't even feel like I'll need to die on this hill, it's just objectively the facts. Xbox doesn't have a game that looks nearly as good as Metroid Prime 1 or 2, Re4, Rogue Squadron and Rogue Leader, the list goes on.
I agree. I think this is probably the best looking game of the generation. I think Xbox graphics are kind of overrated, and PS2 was great but just technically quite a bit less powerful

@crywolfplays its def gotta be one of my favorite thing about gamecube games. Not only do a lot of them look amazing, they also run flawlessly.
@@melee9183 Yes, GameCube games run smoother than most modern games both in terms of performance and stability.
Technically the graphics are amazing, I can't argue with that and it is probably the gamecube game with the most going on. But best looking is of course subjective. For me the OG Prime 1 looks more appealing because the environments are much more interesting to look at. Of course I acknowledge that Prime 2 can more and you are right with your video but for me it looks a little bland with the gray dark environments compared to Prime 1 that provide much richer variety on Tallon IV.
On the PS2 the best looking game for me is Final Fantasy X despite being games out there that did much more technically but the game looks so nice no matter where you are. When I play Resident Evil 1 and 4, Wind Waker, Paper Mario TYD, Rogue Squadron 2, Prime 1 or Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube I have the same feeling, I like the graphics better but like I said, it's subjective and I don't deny that Prime 2 is probably the game with the best graphics on the cube.
Thanks for sharing, I can totally understand this. Prime 1 environments have a stronger nostalgia for me and I agree they're very visually appealing. Also agree about the other games you mentioned - particularly Wind Waker, that game is so nice to look at.
For PS2 my favorite looking game is Shadow of the Colossus, which is kind of a technical mess in some ways but I think its still beautiful. I personally prefer the look of FFXII over X but they're both great looking games.
I loved Prime, but Prime 2 wasn’t as fun. The novelty of the inter-dimensional thing wore off and began to be more of a pain.
