A weird thing I've noticed: Almost everyone I know who's played Echoes struggled with either the Boost Guardian or the Spider Guardian, but rarely *both*. I think it's because one is a DPS race with a big emphasis on reflexes, and the other is a precision timing-puzzle that rewards patience - skills with minimal overlap.
Here's an elevator pitch: I think Metroid Prime 2 would be the best game to base a movie off of. And you don't necessarily need Metroid Prime 1 for context. Prime 2 kinda works on its own. And what's really great, is you could have an awesome B Plot about the Federation Toopers and their fight for survival. Told through video logs, and dialogue from other characters, like the Luminoth or maybe the Space Pirates. And it works to put the viewer in the shoes of Samus who's trying to uncover the whole thing... JUST like the game!! That cutscene of the Federations Last Stand against the Ing, is one of the most epic cutscenes in all of Metroid! Make a movie out of that! There are so many details in the world to scan, that you could draw from! The Federation Troopers are working with outdated equipment and bad leadership. The Space Pirates are opening portals to Dark Aether in the persuit of power, and dealing with the ramifications.. like corruption... Oh! and Dark Samus! And The Luminoth have largely sealed themselves away in Cryo Sleep to not get corrupted. Leaving only holograms, as a last cry for help.. Praying that a hero will emerge! Samus realizes she has to destroy this shadow entity corrupting Aether. Not just because she's stuck. But also because it could consume all life in the universe! ... And because the Luminoth remind Samus of the Chozo...
Prime 2 still to this day has the best game soundtrack I have ever heard in my 28 years of gaming. Prime 2 Remastered hopefully is revealed in next months Direct.
So when it comes to where you mentioned about the ammo being a problem for doors, they designed it where eve at 0 ammo for any beam you can charge a shot but it only shoots 1 bullet versus the 5 ammo it takes for full charge shot that way you can still open doors.

It's weird how much less this game is talked about than its companions. While the world is more cohesive, I think the individual set pieces are not quite as memorable as MP1. My main memory of my initial playthrough as a kid was definitely the difficulty, and it took me ages to find the key monster by the ship. Having played through it again on the Wii trilogy release, I definitely agree that it is an amazing game that gets slept on.
Well of course MP1 was more memorable. It was basically mimicking Super Metroid. But this is also why I find MP1 to be rather lacking. I already have Super Metroid and it's a better game.
My main memories of this game are the bosses. They're all unique and most of them are memorable. The spider guardian was a fun way to do a morph ball boss. The Aloha Blogg is a pre-gravity suit underwater boss and I love it. But specially I love Quadraxis, easily my favorite boss in the Prime trilogy!
There was a lot of whiplash between the two games in tone and difficulty. Between that, a release date that corresponded with several major games (I believe Halo 2 was one, I forget the rest), the already small install base because there was no DVD player built into the GameCube, and the areas feeling drab and not popping (tonally okay but was an issue with the trailers that showed a lot of the dark world, Agon Wastes, and Temple Grounds), it was set up to not be that impressive. I distinctly remember enjoying it, being confused why not many people were playing it, and also thinking that this game was a lot less enjoyable than Metroid Prime 1. Prime 1 is just a comfort blanket that's always nice to return to. It took me quite a few play throughs (and getting older) before I started to realize that most everything the game was doing was a massive step up on Prime 1. Prime 2 is definitely the better game, best in the Prime series I'd argue, but I have a hard time saying it's my favorite over Prime 1.
Never seen your channel or videos, but I enjoyed this one. My life as a Metroid fan really started with Prime when I got it with an indigo Gamecube for Christmas. I had heard of Metroid, seen it played, but wasn't a fan. Played through Prime1 multiple times, including learning some sequence breaking, and I've been hooked since. When Echoes released it was different, but for every right reason IMO. I loved the increased difficulty (except the Boost Guardian, screw him). The hunting for the keys was a fun end game quest, and I actually enjoyed Emperor Ing. Quadaxis is easily my favorite boss of the bunch though. MP3 was kind of 'eh'. I feel like it was a good game, but they pushed the motion controls way too much. And hunting for the batteries was just a huge freaking time sync, not to mention the increased backtracking just to showcase the 'you can fly her ship now' idea. Also hated the whole WiiConnect24 integration as it locked some side fun/easter-eggs away. Anyways, that's my experience with the Prime series -- huge fan, still playing through them, and eagerly waiting for *anything* MP4 related from Nintendo other than more delays. One thing I wish they did was give the Ing their own unique architecture rather than just copying the Luminoth. For example, instead of the Hive being a darker version of The Sanctuary Fortress, it would look like a hive. This way switching from Light Aether to Dark Aether would be even more jarring since you would be switching from steril machinery to walls of organic Ing resin.
I consider Prime 2 to be peak metroid prime and the first full on metroid prime game. Prime 1 was great but it had the added baggage of being an experiment as well as the next big game after Super Metroid.

Imho the biggest nerf in a Prime 2 boss when it was included in the Wii Trilogy is not the boost guardian, but the spider guardian. The whole boss battle was designed around using bomb jumps to move through the tunnels, which are slow and precise. The Wii port introduced the spring jump by shaking the wiimote and now that boss is a dumb-easy battle. I still prefer the original
when i first played prime 2 on gamecube, i never had any problems with any boss, except for the final boss. not the ing, i could never figure what i was supposed to do. so i eventually gave up. if only i picked up prime trilogy, cannot wait to play the game on switch and finally defeat her and go for 100%
Speaking only from when I played this way too many years ago, there is only one critique I've had of the second Metroid Prime game when it popped up on Gamecube: Boss design. They felt way too similar in design at times (bit of the point considering the story) just with different abilities. Also until I upgraded to the Dark Suit, I hated the dark world lol.

The thing is that in the grand sheme of things prime 2 doesnt really matter (besides dark samus getting the light suit). Just like prime hunters and other m the events basically exist in a microcosm and barely affect the events of other games. You could easily just go from prime 1 to prime 3 without missing anything. This is why I personally never cared much about the game. Its so different from everything else while also being completely skippable. Its a great game but I really dont think it deserves being called a mainline metroid title because it simply doesnt contribute enough to progressing the story.
Corruption is controversial for three big reasons: 1. It's more linear. It's not the most linear in the series but it's a bit more than first two primes. 2. It has more characters so it doesn't have as much of a feeling of isolation as Echoes or especially Prime 1. 3. The game centers around a mechanic called Hyper mode that some argue makes the game too easy. Me personally I don't think the game is too linear, I liked the world building it introduced, and I enjoyed Hyper mode so I think it's a good sequel personally.

The Dark Beam actually does more damage to Dark Samus than the Light Beam because she isn’t a being from Dark Aether.

I think the spider guardian was balanced around the wii version where you can jump without bombs. Very annoying on gamecube.
