You could easily do an even deeper dive with another video into how good that golden era of Metroid starting with Prime and Fusion was. While I knew about Samus via Super Smash Bros., it was the killer marketing done by Nintendo and Nintendo Power for Metroid Prime: Hunters that got me into the series and creating my original competitive gamertag that I use to this day. It's looking bright for the series now, also shoutouts to Banjo-Tooie for being one of the earliest 3D Metroidvanias.
The thing I like most about Prime is the satisfaction of using new upgrades on old enemies through backtracking. Using the X-ray visor on Chozo Ghosts, Super Missiles on those stronger ground beetles in the Chozo Ruins, the Plasma Beam on Sheegoths, the Wave Beam on those wall/ceiling turrets, Power Bombs on Metroids, (as mentioned in this video) Morph Ball Bombs on Thardus, etc. It's surprising how many items are designed to specifically counter a lot of enemies. It's both satisfying in it's own right AND keeps backtracking from being stale.
You can actually get 11 artifacts before getting the Last Suit upgrade: The Phazon Suit. What I like doing is when you have to go get the Plasma Beam, I do a full sweep of all the areas looking for items to collect. And before you get to the boss you can have 250 Missiles, 13 Energy Tanks, 8 Power Bomb Tanks, All three Optional Beam Combos, and 11 Artifacts before Omega Pirate.
Great Video! I honestly didn't remember the bosses being so subpar, honestly I was kind've saddened, after Flaaghra they became more bullet sponges that to do certain 3 telegraphed attacks rather than real puzzled fights. I think Thardus is the main culprit too, 3 telegraphed attacks one of which does nothing (the lightning) or stall, you open thermal visor shoot him till he glows, shoot him again then ball roll. Rinse and repeat that's it, it just felt very tedious. The same goes for the final boss for me as well, I don't think beam switching is that much of an interactive mechanic. Besides the backtracking having you hop from biome to biome and the disconnected elevator system that for whatever reason just doesn't like every area to each other, these are my main gripes. It's definitely a good game though that everyone should try at least once. I think I also remember Prime 2 just being that much better than this one for me, I haven't revisited it in a while but I'm so interested in seeing if that thought still holds up, I remember loving so many of the areas and the ideas in that game, especially the bosses.
I think that the "first person shooter" controls is having the unintended effect of emphasizing the wrong mentality about this game, whereas the original gamecube controls promoted the moniker "first person adventure" more than this version. It is suppose to have a slower, more methodical pace. So many people call this a first person shooter now. And they just wont "get" the focus on scanning, investigation and exploring. They just run past everything.
The soundtrack of Prime was absolutely outstanding. It did such a great job of immersing you into the game. Especially the Chozo Ruins music imo. The fetch quest, however, was a little frustrating. The ghosts got annoying. And the fake out of an escape sequence was really disappointing. All in all, one of my fav games of all time. Waiting impatiently for 2 & 3 on the Switch.
2:46 The updated graphics makes it very clear that Samus is just tapping on her arm cannon and there's no buttons there. Kind of wish they showed that panel that flips over in one of the idle animations but oh well.
Based on the logo icons of the beam cannons, it seems that her right hand finger posture/position is what makes the shift occur. Kind of like Peter Parker and his web shooter gadget.
good video but I'mma disagree on the combat part. 10:04 specifically maybe for you it wasn't interesting but for me it was. I loved it. I'm not saying you're wrong or that my opinion is more valid but everyone has their likes and dislikes. I loved this game and its combat. if you didn't thats fine but maybe you should have said in your opinion or you personally didn't like it. I will say that after a few hours combat does get monotonous and thus you end up running past alot of enemies later on in game but for the most part new enemies you engage are very thrilling.
I played recently, the first Metroid I played was Dread, and I love it, it's a great game. I finish Metroid Prime recently, honestly, I thought it was alright, there is nothing that special about the game, the exploration it's pretty cool, but sometimes it can feel a little boring. Also the mechanic of switching weapons is pretty stupid, the beams never feels like an upgrade, on Metroid Dread every new power felt so much meaningful, you used to get things that actually changes the way tou played and you feel much more powerful, on prime, they work pretty much as key, to open doors and kill some specific enemies, but they don't essencially changes the game. The boss fights are never epic or satisfying, they all feel the same. Anyway, if I would give a number I would give like 5/10, it's a good looking game, good exploration, but pretty boring.
I bought Prime Remastered and have been playing it about 5-7 hours and it has been VERY repetitive, boring and slow... I really hope I can finish the game, but so far the 97/100 metascore absolutely baffles me.
I love games from 2002 (Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly), so I understand that some old game designs are found in this game, but killing the same enemies 1000 times is so freaking boring
I thought similarly upon release on gamecube. Prime seemed incredibly overrated over the course of my first playthrough, seemed like something fine that wasn't really my thing. Had this same problem with OoT but over the years I came to appreciate the quality of both games, particularly in relation to the declining quality of games we get today, and I still return to them. They are golden standard games, the ones others try to imitate and either fall into the 7/10 range or become Dark Souls or Bioshock.
The introduction of Samus in 3D is a truly legendary moment. Retro Studios was a major gem for Nintendo to stumble on.
Always loved the atmosphere and the music. Never bothered me wondering around cuz it was so relaxing.
the opening cutscene in prime when samus is jumping off her ship onto the frigate gets me so hyped to play!
4:11 Ridley was being operated on in the room he meets Samus in. He was being reconstituted/cyberized here, and Samus interrupts this.

Greetings from the algorithm. Great content! Love it.

I feel like the music doesn't get mentioned nearly enough.
For me, MP1 OST is top 5 game OSTs all time.
yes, together with turok 2

Good video. I'm happy the algorithm suggested it. I'm sure you'll see some exponential growth with your channel soon bahahaha!

And now we have a Metroid prime 4 coming out next year :,)
Hot take - Metroid Prime is great!
10:06 this is my favorite game of all time and I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD USE THE BOMBS ON THARDUS WHAT THE *FUCK*
I learned something new today!

Agree to disagree
I don't agree prime is super metroid in 3d... and then proceeds to explain how prime is super metroid in 3d with some differences...
Prime 1 is literally post Metroid 1986
Huh?
