Around 7:52, the crane part uses a 2x2x9 2/3 boat mast and 12L hinge bar in blue, which are exclusive to this set. This was also among the first sets to use the propeller element in Mata red and also marked the debut of the 32x32 baseplate in tan.
I had a lot of the Lego 90s sets. Of course the ones the came with treasure like gold coins and jewels i bought just to get those. My Lego treasure hairs was huge. I miss the 90s 😢😢😢😢
I have an all gray version of that forklift piece that I've had since I was a kid. I can't remember what set it originally came with.
great. There are not that many sets with this forklift. Thank you for watching!
wow, you always get good sets.I would recommend to get set 6398 central police precept HQ since you want every vintage lego police station.A lot of basic bricks in it.Also I would love to get my own divers set!
Thank you for your comment! I have already the 6398 but not complete and not with box, in the future i will make a review when I have it complete! Thank you for watching!
What a lovely video, fun to watch your story and build I really like that this set is brick built. I did have the 1st grey castle in my childhood and I have that one and this set on my wish-list.
Thank you for your nice comment. I will make also a video of 6080 king's castle in te future! Thank you for watching!
You make a good point about how this set seems cramped. The lack of a bedroom also seems odd! I wonder if they were trying to cut costs, or if they were simply trying a different combination of components so that it felt different to the earlier holiday home? I have to admit, though, I do like this set! It has a basic charm to it. 😀
Yes i had certainly the basic charm of the eighties! Thank you for watching!
This would've seemed an amazing set for any kid who got it at the time, I'm sure! I think they'd only just started doing airplanes for minifigs? And all those baseplates would've taken up a huge amount of space: I'm sure that most children lucky enough to have this set weren't able to leave the full set standing. 😀
Yes it is a very big set! It takes a lot of space in my collectors room togheter with 6396 International Jetport !
@henrysvintagetoys At least you don't need to pack it away for dinner time! 😉
lol
I had a number of Castle sets of this era, but not this one. I think I felt at the time that I could save my pocket money by building it with the pieces I already had... although I'm not sure I ever tried building it in the end! 🤣 Interesting that it wasn't on a baseplate, I don't think I was aware of any sets at the time like that.
I guess the plates are cheaper to produce than baseplates. The minifig is iconic! The blacksmith!
That set is one of my favorites as well, as it is fun playing around with the whale skeleton's mouth, trying to get the scuba divers to retreive the priceless treasure chest from the skeleton's jaws with out getting trapped. I also like how the boat design is different, being a catamaran in this set, which has an X-ray machine, tools, a shark cage and an ocean floor map on board. I also like the small submarine that comes with it, which is equipped with two cameras. There's also plenty of marine life, including a shark, sawfish and a stingray.
yes this set has a lot to offer! It's great! Thank you for watching!
Wow nice video to start my monday! 😊😊😊
Thank you for your nice comment and watching the video!
Thanks for another great video Henry. I am thinking about getting the Lego 6086 Black Knight Fortress set from 1992 which I will cover around the end of the year because the prices are anything from £225 to £350. All the best, Peter.
Thank you for your nice comment. The 6086 is a great set that I also want someday in my collection. The prices on auction sites are very high, especially if you want box and manual. So I try to find it on an other way but that takes time. Il keep you posted. Greetz Henry
@@henrysvintagetoys Anytime buddy. Not sure if you have seen my videos but today. I have just completed the Lego 60324 from 2022 and it is such a nice crane. I will be covering some retro sets from 1987 etc in March. As for the Black Knight Fortress. I will be tracking one down in the Summer as it is such a lovely set. Hope you can get one too buddy because you will love it I am sure. All the best, Peter.
Although I always preferred Castle and Space LEGO sets much more and also this set comes from period when I already lost interest in LEGO that time - it is nicely designed with lots of playability!
yes evey set is worth to discover.Thank you for watching
Not only did the panels get open studs they also got reinforced on the sides, so you can't build a smooth inside wall if wanted. (edit) Oh, I'm not quite right there was hollow stud without reinforcements on the sides as well 😅 I just did not have that in my collection...
Thank you for this extra informaton!
Ordered this from a BL seller with box a few days ago, looks good from the pictures should have it in hand early next week
I hope that your stickers are not damaged and in one piece!
@@henrysvintagetoys Picture looked good, so fingers crossed.
@ let me know the result! Greetz
I need my daily Hnery's vintage fix. I love these sets that you show. We can live vicariously since you give great detail to each piece so it feels like we are also building it. thanks.
Thank you for your nice comment and watching my video's. Greetz Henry
Nice find, looks good too. I have my "cut-off" at '91 (sans trains) as I just had to have the harbor sets
Thank you for your comment and watching the video. Greetz Henry
This set deserves a modern remake especially the skeleton. Excellent review!
Thank you for watching!
I love this!
Great! Thank you for watching!
This is a really nice set great find
Thank you for watching!
An interesting set. For me this era was when Lego had lost its way, although this set is better than I was expecting. Those big single-piece rocks are inexcusable, though. What were Lego thinking?!
yes, but as I say in the video. In the end you get a lot of value for your money. There is a lot to discover in the set, nice parts and you remain fascinated by the different segments. The building experience is a bit less. It is good that Lego tries something different every now and then and that should be also shown. Thank you for watching
I like the seaweed and the animals, but the skeleton is the best part.
The skeleton was for me a good surprise too! Thank you for watching!
Skeleton is still impressive up to this day!
Yes, also in the western series! Thank you for watching!
Do you care if the stickersheets are original or Remakes?
Yes, i do care a lot. I only want originals! Thank you for watching
Good
Thank you for watching!
I got this set when I was 9, I still have it. I remember playing with it for years.
very cool! Thank you for watching!
woahhhh! some great classic sets!!! I can't wait!
Thank you for watching!
This one I had :) Amazing set.
yes, it's great. This summer I will let it sail in my swimmingpool and make a video!
@@henrysvintagetoys Considering only the hull is truly needed for rebuilding, I might polish it and rebuild it. Most likely have most of the parts as new by now.
yes you can try. This set with box and manual you can pick it up loose for about 35 euros those days, or you can buy the hull separtally at bricklink
This was my dream set when Lego got their first official retailer in Estonia. Never got it :( Post Ruble currency supported by Swedish bank made Lego super expensive.
But maybe you can still get it. If you don't want the box, you can easily pick this set up with the manual for about 40 euros. Thank you for watching
@@henrysvintagetoys After my last move between the island of UK and homeland in EU I'm not collecting big stuff and boxes anymore. You can't imagine what I sold off and gifted away for little money for I made no sense to export Lego on budget and between TAX zones. Yes, including the London double-decker and Bugatti and... Oeh. Never again. I'm on 1/64 scale model cars now, Mini GT etc :)
just buy in your on countriy:-) there are possiblitys enough or rebuild it with an online manual! except of the baseplates, it al are basic bricks.
Looking forward to some interesting and entertaining reviews, especially 70s and 80s sets! Sweet memories come to life again! ☺
Cool! Thank you for watching!
Looks like some cool things to look forward to for reviews, in particular the electronics and the food promotional sets.😁 That is interesting what you said about box art style changing, some people like models and others like toys heh. Same for me, Star Wars sets about the original trilogy interests me. I watched a video about the Clone Trooper era, still very active but not for me.
Thank you for your story and watching the video!
yellow castle, so simple, so beautiful
Yes that castle is also one of my favorites. You can find already a video of it on my channel onthis link! ruclips.net/video/BV1FbWijBO8/видео.html Thank you for watching!
I am so glad to algorithm suggested this channel to me. This content is absolutely class and I can't wait to see how your future projects go.
I'm glad that you find my channel! Thank you for watching! In the future I will post a lot of other reviews!
I found and built the chocomel factory from my uncles old lego recently. Along with other 70's set I still need to inventory. I have been thinking about having them displayed at a local toystore for a while.
With that set it's important that you have all the stickers to have a nice display piece. Two for the minifigs, one with the sign Chocomel and one with the number 16. Thank you for watching
Those early starwars sets from 1999-2006 have such great charm to them! I’ve been trying to collect those for awhile now
cool. I havent build it yet. I'm curious. Thank you for watching
One of my all time favorites. I have it built right now.
Very cool! Enjoy it!
4:38 i wouldn't call this rare, but rather annoying to get in good condition, which seems to be a common theme for any classic Lego sails i noticed, i still have mine from set 6057, but it's sadly in quite used condition, holes are intact and no discoloring, but has some folds.
Yes I do not mean rare in general, but the fact that it's in such a nice condition in a box full of parts that I found on a flea market!
You skipped the castle!
I showed it already in an other extensive video! This is the link!: ruclips.net/video/BV1FbWijBO8/видео.html
@@henrysvintagetoys Thanks for the link!
Thank you for watching
where are these magical flea markets where people offer old Lego from the 70s to the 90s? let alone WITH box/manuals, also, how do you get into people's attics? do you have contact ads for people to call you and be like "yo... i got some Lego's, come search through my attic" and you're like "okay..." like how does that work?
That is a process of years. I have been working on my collection for more than 10 years. I do indeed have a lot of contacts with other collectors but also with people in general and through others you can indeed find older people who have all sorts of things lying around in their attic and want to get rid of it. At flea markets I often find incomplete sets with a damaged box and I then supplement them with my spare parts and do some restorationwork. You can also find nice lots on second-hand sites, you can see with a glance whether they are professional collectors or just peolple who want to get rid of their stuff. It's the last group that you have to find 🙂
What a coincidence: I myself was also released in a limited edition in the Netherlands in 1978. 😅
haha! Thank you for watching
@@henrysvintagetoys thanks for the videos, they bring back some great memories.
Wow very, very nice vintage Lego finds! 😊😊😊 Here in my place, most used Legos youll find are modern ones...
It's for me a quest to find those treasures! Thank you for watching!
Fantastic stuff Henry, looking forward to the videos for them all except that fire station 6554 ugh the plague of the juniorised stuff haha
I'm also not sure if I'll like that fire station. But since I want to collect everything between 1970 and 2000, this one should be added to my collection. For the historical value and to see how the evolution is over a period of 30 years. Thank you for watching.
@@henrysvintagetoys you might change my mind on it maybe!
maybe the set is ok, but not the artwork
@@henrysvintagetoys thanks for the videos again, Ill be very interested in all of them but just thinking Henry Ill be very interested in if you compare that 1986 shell garage to the 1983 one. I think the garage itself looks better but the 1983 one had more vehicles and the thing for lifting up the car seemed more unique than the jack, aswell as another minifig so will be good to hear your thoughts!
Weetabix! I've always had a vague idea I have a promotional set mixed in with my collection, and Weetabix seems to ring a bell. Perhaps they also did a small set I saved up for? That town square set certainly looks familiar as well, but I'm sure that wasn't the set I had; I must've seen it a lot in promotional photos, though.
Yeah they did often some promotional stuff. There is also 1589 Town Square without the castle scene. That was a Promotional release with Weetabix only in the UK.
I think I got a house from weetabix in the late 80s
cool. There is also a castle but very early, before the yellow castle.
Cool update!
Thank you for watching!
Exciting!
Thank you for watching!
This is the best Airport.
Thank you for watching
I recently purchased a used boxed copy of this set for a very good price. I had both minifigures in my collection prior to this purchase because of bulk lot buys but the two I have now are in pristine condition. I was already in my Dark Age when this theme was released back in 1996. Lego found a clever way to connect all concurrent System themes of the era with this theme. One could also extend the time / dimension travelling aspect to other non Systems themes such as Duplo, Freestyle or Technic for Dr. Cyber, Timmy and Ali to visit! The stories one could come up with truly is endless! That being said, I loved building this set. The finished model is begging for customization. Having a bigger deck or cabin would go a long way to house Timmy and Ali (the monkey) during travel. Improving the crow's nest or maybe adding a few more lasers to the hull for some kind of defence. It's a good set and I'm glad you were able to review it here as well. I'm really liking what you're doing with vintage Lego set reviews.
Thank you for your nice comment and watching the video. The finishing and decroation seems to be always a bit of the problem in those old sets. I think the designers had to work with tight budgets to get a good retail price.
I think the term front-end loader would be a better description for the set 6658.
Yes very good suggestion
if a Lego set has 2 numbers (which i first noticed with set 375) it was released in Europe first? and THEN later in the USA with a 2nd number added? why? why not just keep the same number with the USA release? also, i'd opt for replacing the entire flags, instead of trying to painstakingly peel them off.
Thank you for watching! I don't know the story about the numbers exactelly but normal they come first out in Europe and after some time in USA. If you pause the video on 10:34 then you see the flags restored in the right way! So it worked very well.
great set, I still have my childhood copy, just missing a few pieces, mainly the figures itself need to be replaced, and for some reason i don't have the islander sail anymore, I do however still have the black and white sails, also missing the bow of the female islander.
It's a very cool set with a lot of nice parts. The sails in good condition are quiet expensive to find seperatelly!
