Very good! Got a lot more business coming through the physical location, got a pick from facebook & the radio ads as well. The marketing has been helping a lot. I think it's all been well worth it

@JB-gt5no I never had one early on and I wish I did. I have a couple people I talk with in the business that have been helpful but if I had to do it again I would have tried to apprentice under an antiquarian seller. I try in some of my videos to offer some guidance based on my experience thus far that I know have benefited people, actually recently someone contacted me about a sourcing video I did this year, they followed some of my advice and ended up finding a book they sold for 16k recently, so that made me feel good! Maybe in the future I would try and provide some guidance if someone wanted it, or do a small group but I just don't have the time in the day currently

That’s awesome! I took your advice about going to antique stores and recently came across about 15 obscure Native American weaving books, the booth was having a huge sale and was able to get them all for about $70. Most of the books range from $50-$60 and a couple that have sold comps well over $100-$150. I enjoy going to them, because I feel like a lot of stuff has probably been sitting there for years and hopefully reasonable prices. I appreciate your replies. Have a great whatnot show!

You're a genuine and sincere down-to-earth guy and since there is so much censorship now, it's not easy to find people brave enough to speak their mind. I also really like the fact that you aren't hooked on social media, and in actuality, make a conscious effort to limit your partaking of it. Ah, anyway, I could go on, but suffice to say, your videos are always entertaining because you always have something genuine and interesting to say.

🤣 You obviously didn't watch the video, the original owner died and left the burden on others to sort out, I came in and prevented all of it from being destroyed and salvaged what could be to rehome it. Exploitation? The original owner was never named nor their face shown, my channel gives a behind the scenes look into what every book dealer around the world encounters at some point in their career. Maybe you should write to the tv show "Hoarders" and express your heartfelt moral superiority to them. Yeah most of that is probably priced to high on my opinion as well, clear sign they're probably clueless in what they're doing but that means there could be a great opportunity to purchase some sleepers in places like that as well. Best of luck on the hunt!

@@thebookpeddler Yes! You stated it perfectly. I bought a book at an estate sale on the last day so everything was priced nicely. Got You Are Only Human Once by Grace Moore - Signed by her in 1944. She was a famous Opera singer back in the 30’s.

I have no qualms with people that scan, I've never had somebody do it in my shop but wouldn't care if they did. The thing is with the people that scan is that they have no interest in learning the book business (generally speaking) and are so reliant on the scanners that they consistently pass up better options and opportunities when they're in the field without knowing it. Not to sound like a know it all but they are virtually irrelevant to me, completely one dimensional. At any sale I've been to they have never been a threat even if there's an army of them. Most have been sold on, in my opinion a false perception that they can implement an Amazon model that more experienced resellers use to make a small fortune, very very few actually can for many logistical reasons. And the actual net profits are far smaller than people are being led to believe. Example Amazon is taking around 50% of the final sale alone. Many "influencers" may show large numbers but they don't adequately break down their expenses and again, only my opinion, it's deceptive and most have a program to sell you. I don't view it as a shortcut by any means. It's another tool to be utilized if done effectively, however I believe it's very short sighted. These programs are sold to the public on the premise that a quick dollar can be made and instant gratification ensured but in the long run most are wasting their time and not doing their due diligence to learn how to buy and sell good books, my average return on investment is just as high as those sellers, the difference is I keep far more of the profit and know how, where and what to buy from years of handling the material, it did not happen overnight. Like any business it takes a lot of work, sacrifice and time to become proficient at, the "short cut" being sold is in most ways retarding one's growth if they have aspirations to be a book seller. Just my opinion, there's a lot to unpack and a lot of detail being left out but just giving you my general opinion, hope I answered the question well enough for ya

I'll be consulting with a couple particular individuals on some of the material. Probably a couple of choice pieces will go to auction and some like material lotted up and brought to an institution. Right now I'm setting some aside and trying to just work my way through it all. It's been a lot of fun and at the same time exhausting! I got an equally large pick tomorrow and one the following week in all honesty I'm set for the rest of year, it does feel good!
