    Very nice pick, Phil ! The two handed handling of the books is twice as good as the way you have been doing it. Everybody needs a sister like yours !

      Thanks! I'll be creating a setup closer to Spring that'll be a solid spot to show off my finds better and be able to handle the earlier material with both hands finally I hope people enjoy it, they'll get a better view when I get it down. Thanks for watching!

    I'd much prefer a warm sunny Sunday to set up my street book stand. But, I do kind of enjoy these rainy cold days. Gives me time to attack the humongous death pile of books that I've been meaning to list on Ebay. Sunday afternoons/evenings in your town, I'm thinking, is a poets dream town because of the serene atmosphere.

      It can be! The town has quite a wild side I must say hahaha, a poet would probably commit murder here!

    Very interesting picks. The Edison museum is a few miles down the road from the house (in edison). "The Wizard of the Menlo Park" .
    if I understand correctly he hired Nikola Tesla for a time and then tesla set up a competing labratory in nearby Rahway Nj.

    Have you ever been tempted to drive to, Las Vegas, and try to sell a high end book to the, Pawn Star, guys? You're book picks always have me glued to your channel. By the way, the weather up by you must be brutal. For me, the first two months of the year, are the worst for street book vending. Much success to you.

      Not really, that doesn't interest me too much, I like what I'm doing here. If the show gave my shop publicity, then it would probably be worth it to some degree, but I really enjoy doing what I'm doing for now and I'll improve as time goes on. Yeah the weather is pretty crumby, but it's been a lot worse in the past so we'll deal with it haha. Glad you enjoy my videos, thanks for watching!

    The new set up is looking great!
    I'd be interested in hearing more about how you plan your picks, when they're further away. I know you folks the US are more willing to drive further in a day (here in the UK, a couple of hours can be considered quite the commute by most) but I'm just curious how you plan for a long trip, storage of stock (a car full of stock can't always be a good idea, if you're stopping over some place), and that kind of thing.

      Thanks! I'll get better with it all... going to setup a station area just for videos at some point.
      I basically assess the situation based on the motivation of the seller, the time frame they have, the desirability of the material etc. There are a lot of different factors now that I think about it, some picks can be spread out like a couple I'm working on now but many you gotta be active and hit the pick hard, get in and get out. I don't like letting material sit because the owners can change their mind and ideas about it all quickly.
      If I go out of state it's definitely different... just based on general life experience and were I've been, when I'm in completely foreign environments my gaurd is a bit more up for sure. I guess an easy example is when I'm in particular areas down south lets say and I'm rolling around with New York plates I'm out of place, the way I talk is, so how I "move" is different. Can't say too much as this comment is public but maybe you get my drift 😊 I prepare, put it that way.
      I also always have a bag with supplies, some food, equipment, a bundle of wood, just in case, some areas I'm at have been pretty desolate so I always have my bug out bag. That may sound funny but I've definitely pulled off and pitched a tent or slept in my car more than enough times. I'd rather not need it then be without!

    Oh dude the US Grant books! I’ve sold beat up sets for $250. That condition is a pretty penny! Wow

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  8 месяцев назад +1

      I know I love the set! I've had them in the past but never in this great of condition! There's a neat back story to the work to which I wasn't familiar with until recently. Mark Twain was his friend and encouraged Grant to put his memoirs together, Grant was bankrupt and Twain financed the whole ordeal for him apparently. It's a neat story if you ever have the chance to look it up

    In the first Grant book, is it signed in the front after the copyright page ?

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  7 месяцев назад

      No that's a fascimile of his signature, I believe most if not all copies of this set have it. Actually the back story is pretty neat, Mark Twain was friends with Grant and since Grant was penniless and in dire straights at the end of his life, Twain financed the publication of the work and encouraged Grant to write it. Pretty cool story 😊
