nice wins and there all unique my kind of books my mom sold books since the early 90''s doing mail order (buying books for book store owners) then ebay and amazon came about and she signed up for both but mainly was an amazon book seller and would sell once in awhile on ebay she got me on to selling online as a side thing in the late 90's by early 2000's i was full time on eBay amazon and yahoo auctions and started my own website. she taught me the money is in Non fiction (unless its a signed first edition) but im an avid autograph collector since the early 90's so i already knew signed books were worth more then non signed books. any way again great wins especially those collector books love finding those

That's always what I'm going for is the non-fiction, absolutely agree with what you said, that's been my experience as well. You've been truckin a long time, that's awesome! Thanks for the comment.

21:38 BTW thanks for speaking truth about selling a dream No one likes to talk about the truth its hard work its a grind and there are HUGE costs that go into a successful business some many have to sacrifice the WAY of life maybe even downsize what there use to many i know are NOT willing to do that for there business or side hustle been doing this full time for 25 years my mom had done it pre ebay for10 years and then another 20 from 95 to 2015 when she passed away. ITs 1000% a grind but if you truly love it i mean really truly love it then as the saying goes if you love what you do for work then you will never have worked a day in your life compared to a job you dead or hate getting up and going too.

As you said, tremendous work, I used to go back and forth questioning my sanity over it for years and still do from time to time. I believe that as well, you have to love it and it's not for everybody. I always see these guys out there confidently talking about how much money they make and you can quite your job to do this, in reality I think it's terrible advice for 99% of the population. Thanks for the comment.

I don't know what you paid for that assortment of books but I'm betting you will do very well with those. A (past) passion of mine was hunting artifacts and I recognize a lot of the authors you showed. Very nice purchases !

Great info. I always do research on auction items before I bid. Time is money, you’re right.

Great advice on live auctions. I admit, I have been known a time or two (or three) to play around , act like a re-seller and be all hesitant, only to throw the hammer down the next two cycles to throw people off (I'm actually a collector, and that's how we do). But I respect the dynamics of the market and the need to make a buck for all those, like yourself, who make it possible to have this stuff to purchase. So, respect. Live auctions are fun, though.

I noticed the stack of egg cartons and thought, "He knows someone with hens." Haha....I wonder, does your mother give you any green eggs to go along with your Seuss jammies?! :D

Great video, Phil. I wasn't sure if you saw the news story about some of General Sherman's library being sold off in Columbus, OH earlier today. The museum in Lancaster was getting kind of pissy about the books "possibly ending up in someone's basement". They had gotten together about 90k to go pursue some of the lots. In my humble opinion, it was mostly a tempest in a teapot kind of situation. Collectors of Civil War ephemera generally do their research and there aren't many surprises when it comes to high dollar lots. Although I agree that there are sometimes shenanigans at live auctions (moving books around, etc.) Anyway, just wanted to check in and tell you; keep up the good work.

Thanks for the info, I was unaware of that auction, sounds pretty interesting! Yeah, an auction like that most likely there won't be any surprises, funny things can always happen but usually there's a tight hold on them. If there was anything "out of the norm" going on I'd be eyeing the auction house. I highly doubt they'd end up in someone's basement, personally I'd rather see material like that in private hands, the individuals that purchase things like that usually do a better job of sharing it with the general public than museums and libraries which in many cases but it away on a storage shelf and it never sees the light of day. Thanks for the comment and keying me in!

i’d list for you for free or help in any way. i recently applied to volunteer at my local library as merely an avid reader looking to elevate my knowledge. i have a bachelors degree, etc. i’m not looking to establish my own business, i’m not a reseller, etc. an undercover book/music/bauhaus nerd though, yes. 😂

It's never a good idea to leave a pay check to pay check job to become a book dealer who gets paid book to book. I much prefer living book to book. It's so much more exciting. I could end up homeless, (not that I am,) and I could still make money selling out of a storage unit. It's not a life style that I'd wish on anyone. This life style is perfect for my personality. I'd rather spend all day hunting books, than working a 9 to 5 to earn a week's vacation. Every day is a vacation for me when I'm around books.

We're cut from the same cloth Joe and couldn't agree more with your comment! The percentage of people where this line of work would be the right fit for is very small and the "dream" I keep seeing being peddled to people of easy money etc. I've seen that disillusionment turn into a nightmare for many. Thanks for the input.

@@thebookpeddler I like your videos but it's just distracting to the viewer. It's also the reason Casey Neistat wears sunglasses in all his videos. Maybe I'm in the minority and others don't notice. Good luck with your grand opening.

I can't obviously discern whether you're being "trollish" or not but since you were cordial I don't mind responding and all I'll say is I'll try to work on it in the future.
