      He knows somebody at the golf course who knows he resells, if I remember right, the guy at the golf course reached out to him and asked him to come and see if he wanted anything because nobody had claimed any of it in forever. I wouldn’t make it a habit to source lost and found items lol only when everyone pretty much feels like all the items are practically abandoned by their original owners.

      The best part is you can take it at face value and literally try to source the lost and found at your nearest golf course. Or you can use it as an example of thinking outside the box and brainstorm other, similarly unorthodox sources of reselling goods.

    You're right about the Great Depression. My grandfather was an engineer who made a high salary, and he was working throughout the 1930s. If you had money you could live like a king in the 1930s, because costs were low, and if you needed help around the house there were many applicants.

    Quite often people spout off before doing their historical research. I appreciate your perspective and that you have actually studied history. I do remember the gas issues during the 70s. I also remember the stuff going on in 2008. As far as reselling I do not buy sterling silver or any precious metal, unless it is "hidden", this means I pick it up at thrift stores, garage and estate sales where they have misread or didn't read the marks, so quite often I pick it up for less than $1.00. It is true the saying that goes "you make your money on the buy". If something is marked sterling at a garage/estate sale or thrift store, then you are probably paying too much for it as a reseller. Perhaps the disabled lady can make something that will sell - such as sewing etc.? I have a ton of ideas of things to do with sewing.

    In October 2023 I had my 1,000 eBay sale after over three years of selling full time there. Today I have 1870 something sales, I saw where I was hitting a wall and shifted dropping my average sale from $34 to $22 but way more volume. I also am pivoting to convention and shows in person as well for other types of stuff. I didn't blame the market or economy but acknowledged I needed to change for the better.

    1. It's a weird economy, savings are down, defaults are creeping up, but there are still jobs... mostly.
    2. I just hit a new " high score" on eBay this week. Highest 90-day total in 3+ years of selling. And pretty decent overall, from my last 25 years.
    3. My eBay ASP is down, but number of sales are up. I think the lipstick index is starting to kick in.

We make money by putting in effort that other people don't want to put in, if more people want to put the effort in then we will have more competition, its the nature of this field

    Yes, i agree you can make money during a depression or periods on inflation. But you need cash flow to make big buys that take time to sell off individually. Fortunately, i can do this. But am more cautios about buying now because a certain portion of the population just isnt buying now. They need money for necessities not wants.

    Re: the disabled retired lady selling jewelry... An aquaintence who rescues and re-homes cats; sells at a local flea market, items that have been donated to her. Most people I know donate on a regular basis somewhere. If you can get the word out that you would like to try/ test different items for resale, many people would probably offer you items to sell. Maybe small items. The Crazy lamp lady reseller seemed to sell small fragile items.
    Also, you have the experience, maybe you could team with a person that can do the running around on the weekend but I'd too busy to monitor and prepare for shipping. Just ideas.

    Timely message on mindset. Just yesterday I lost a good portion of my inventory and all of my personal belongings that I'd been storing for when I had a home and memories from when I had a home. I don't want to fall into a victim mindset, but it's taking everything within me not to throw in the towel right now. I had a lot of odds stacked against me at the moment, but I'm just too stubborn to give up! BTW I had that green glow worm when I was little. Wish I could hug him now.

    Contributing factors: higher expenses, lower net profits. Big tech manipulation is real and should not be dismissed as a factor...winners and losers being managed by tech.
    There are sellers in all forms of business who go above and beyond, yet the results are just not adding up. This is twilight zone territory, and all things business not making a lot of sense. For those whose sales are through the roof, can you say the same about your net profits? Maybe, if other important business expenses are not involved...physical location rent is a big one, insurance, fees, maintenance, utilities, and on and on. These are the facts for us all, regardless.

    I've found out that the way I do my resourcing thru odd jobs ,cleaning peoples garages & Sheds, etc. I get paid to haul away their unwanted items . Sort thru it & donate the common items & the items that aren't worthy listing sale them for cheap ,while the items that are worth listing I do the research to make some great sales . Some of my customers are vtg. Collectors & others like some of the same items I like . Not all of my sales are fast , yet some of my items sale for an amazing price that keeps me looking for more ! I focus more on learning my research & what my customers are looking for in quality items . I don't a fortion $$ , I make a decent amount & try to learn grow at my pace .

    First of all great videos and good points made keeping people aware of what is going on in the reselling business thanks ok now I have been a reseller for 29 years longer than some people who watch your videos have been alive Lol and I have to say that the past 3 months have been the worst sale through that I personally have had in a long time not even the top sellers such as video game stuff are selling good right now so if most of your OG resellers on eBay are struggling than something is wrong people can throw BS in the comments oh it is your fault that your sales suck or get off your ass and fix it Lol than I think these people more than likely do not know anything about reselling on eBay or any other platform.I think people are uncertain of how this year will turn out being election year maybe they are scared to spend money and saving more that is why I have several forms of income when one is struggling another picks up the slack again great videos Commonwealth keep it up.

    I'm a very long time eBay user (pre-2000) but only started selling for real about 10 years ago. I only say that for perspective. Anyway, what I have been selling lately is lower cost but "essential" items OR stuff like video games. Printer ink, PS3 games, PS3 camera, fruit fly trap, reading glasses, pet water fountain filters, tax software, and so on. Random stuff. I'm not selling higher value items with multiple watchers. In the past, if I'm really remembering correctly, a lot of those higher value items that tend to get watchers would sell a lot sooner. Those higher value items do sometimes sell, but it seems to be less. Also, I'm oddly selling a few long time listings, as in they have been on eBay for more than a year, for some reason. Take it for what it's worth.
    One thing that ALWAYS sells is electric guitar bodies. I mean not even the guitar with the neck attached. Just an electric guitar body without the neck, no electronics, no hardware even. It can be any cheap guitar, too. It doesn't have to be a legitimate Fender, Gibson, etc. People that build guitars always want a cheap stock to work with. If I can source those, I have an instant 20-30 bucks after shipping charged. It's a slow process but I have been figuring out what I'm good at selling. All of that said, people in general have less money to spend these days. Specifically working class people. I think that's what is showing right now.

    Well I can’t complain too much .I have been a seller on EBay since 2002 . I have not been as good as listing lately with a lot going on and I’ve always been very part-time but yet I’m still making at least a couple hundred a month and I sell mostly small items. Jewelry, watches and small knickknacks and things like that along with some purses and plan to list some clothing that I’ve picked up. And even though I have not consistently listed I’m still selling every week. I know once I can start listing daily I will see it come back up to a higher amount per monthI. I see a direct correlation between the amount I list and the amount I sell but even with hardly listing I’m still selling. And I only have 110 listings, I don’t have a ton of things up there listed. So I do think you can make good money but you have to put in the work and that’s the thing I plan on doing going forward, but I don’t think Ebay selling is dead I think there’s still a lot of money to be made but you do have to put the work in.

    I thankfully quit selling for a laundry list of reasons. As someone with multiple disabilities (including carved-in-stone restrictive weight limits), people on fixed incomes are being hit and hit HARD. Jewelry sellers get hit extra hard by eBay fees because eBay has jacked them up on sellers while also absolutely trashing the search. They sell less and it costs them more. BTW, when it comes to sterling, if you paid more than half metal weight, you overpaid. Harsh reality, but flat truth. That's true for 90% of so-called designer pieces too. If you need to unload it at local auction, sale price may just be metal weight, and if you paid that you're in the hole before fees come out. Consignment store rates are worse. By a LOT. To add insult to injury I also found out today that my local Ill Will is always bare because a) they wanted to close it but couldn't get out of the lease and b) a theft problem, but NOT theft by customers. The good stuff either gets sent to online auctions, or walks out the back door for the proverbial 5-finger discount.

    • @OriginalNethead
      @OriginalNethead 4 месяца назад

      It's not the resellers jacking up costs, it's labor prices (i.e. enough to eat on) and greed. Some of the help here are on Public Service, as part of a sentance for nonviolent crimes. If said people aren't getting enough pay, the temptation to steal may be overwhelming. Hello Poncho!(Y'all need to get him a brother named Lefty.)

      Wages have remained stagnant for a decade?

    • @MarioLuigi-vb3rp
      @MarioLuigi-vb3rp 4 месяца назад

      @@commonwealthflipper yes clearly my friend this is fact. This is actually one of the main reasons we have a price crisis. Interest rates at 0 percent with loose credit standards first time home owners with only 3 percent down which is Catastrophic in my opinion since you have no equity up front no payment. Interst rates for homes now are barely at 6 percent and now we have qualification issues. Lower interst rates Allowed low wage earners to get a home. Now tell me interest rates for homes were close to 15 percent in the 70’s yet you could still qualify for a home and take care of an entire family with one wage earner. Not to mention wages have flat lined and have not even come close to keeping up with inflation. They can no longer hide this fact since interest rates can no longer be kept at zero. Now two wage earners cannot afford a home and interest rates are nowhere near 1970’s. So we need to stop the cap and get real. Imagine if interst rates reached the 1970’s? Man you would see this economy tail spin.

    Funny that there is even a conversation about how the economy is doing... Food and gas have been up about 30% in my area since 2019ish. Also, no, most people did not make that loss up with increased wages. In fact increased wages only made up a few % of that loss for MOST people.

A lady told me a story when she brought it to their attention, the lady that priced it came out and yelled at her. It is a charity and this all was donated!! I get there is overhead cost, but they have priced out many in need. They own lots of real estate locally too and help some. But it makes you wonder.

    I’ve noticed lately on eBay that as soon as I look at something an offer comes in for a lower price! I suspect that things aren’t selling as well as they used to! When I purchase it’s that the item that is for sale is exactly what I’m looking for! The price matters, and I will pass on it if it’s in my eyes to expensive!

    • @dash_rabbit

      Just for context, that's not a manual seller resonse, it's an automated response offer that that the seller added to the item as a selling strategy.

    If anyone claims that its not inflation but accuses companies of price gouging for greed, you’re not only being dishonest, you’re a bad business person…and FAIL at economics. Instead of blaming your party, or your president…you blame greed, well companies don’t raise prices for the hell of it…it has to do with the buying power of the dollar, if the dollar has less buying power, BECAUSE THEY’RE PRINTING TOO MUCH BLOODY MONEY…then it doesn’t have a higher value, and prices go up. Stop chalking it up to greed… cause if you’re a reseller…and you’re jacking up prices of things you got at garage sales then you’re no better. Today some people estimate that the dollar has a higher value, and thats not the current state, while the dollar fluctuates, its still not in a good position, we keep printing more and more of it…Im a reseller, I have to lower my prices, to make sales, sometimes I don’t make as much, and barely break even on my products…and these are really great, high resale products, before I was booming…now, Im lucky I get one sale a day. So don’t give me that…”our economy is booming” garbage.

    i've said this before. because everyone sells differently to say ebay sucks would have to be the majority of sellers. THAT is not the case. even those who sell the same or identical items sell differently. someone could excel with better photos & pricing while the other seller's photos do not entice buyers & or their pricing/shipping may be off. bottom line. it's everyone else's problem. it's ebay. it's ebay's fees. if what you're selling isn't or isn't selling as it once did, review your market. for years advertising wood crates especially alcohol were in high demand. unless it's a rarity they tank at 15-20 bucks & if you have a garage full you can no longer move you have to unload it & move on. i've had to switch & switch again many x because what i could easily sell, sells no longer or aren't worth selling. lastly, when you pay up, waaaaay up & you can't recover your costs, it's not ebay or customers. you paid up & no one else is willing to do the same.

    I have said this before but will post again, use a simple 1.00 wall calendar. Write each day how many packages you ship. Save the calendars and you will see a definite pattern hit every single year. This past two weeks being slower happens every single year. It must have to do with kids getting out of school possibly easter and mothers day expenses. No sure but what this will do is ease your mind that it is not permanent.
    With this said what we do is work harder through these periods to drive sales. The days of you just listing and depending on the item to sell are gone. You must help drive buyers to your ebay stores from outside media now. Same with websites. You are also going to have to spend money doing this!
    I also want to say I met a woman when I was young Her and Her Husband became super rich during the great depression. Now they were constantly in fear for there lives because of it at the time. He was a Mortgage Banker. Yep he repoed poor peoples homes that had mortgages
    Remember you were considered poor prior to 1940 if you had a mortgage!
