Check this Before you Buy a MC Lift Table!
Great video! I had a different experience, mine is quiet enough for me to talk to people in my 2-car garage. You needed thicker insulation (I used folded moving blankets, fold twice, 4 layers, from the cheap store). Mostly, what you want is to cover all sound reflection paths with the insulation. There are many ways of doing this without blocking all the cooling air, and any reflection path only needs to be blocked once. Honestly, I have 3 moving blankets folded over mine covering everything but the bottom, plus 2 or 3 car mats (rubber/carpet type), then some 3/8" (10mm) plywood on 3 sides and it's no bother when it's on. Unfortunately I can't stand channels with titles that lie about the video content. You gave no reason other than it work well enough, however adding better/more sound insulation would've resolved it, but you didn't even try. p.s. heat buildup isn't an issue as long as the intake can get fresh air, since as you use the stored compressed air, the decrease in pressure cools the whole tank down.
Brilliant Why are they not all like this from the factory? 😂 Liked and sub’d.❤
I'm suggesting to get one or two compressors made for refrigerator to use as air compressor. It will be super silent as a refrigerator is running
That is a very silent option indeed, but they are not very powerful. Not sure if it will be usable in a workshop when using tools that requires a lot of air
If any enclosure reduces the noise measurably, how is this not a win?
I guess you can look at it like that 😊 Indeed it helps, but for me the result was not as good as my expectations. It could be my expectiations was too high 🤔
Seems you've made "Quarter Wave Resonator Subwoofer" with random uncalculated spike frequency :D , which increases volume for specific frequencies and making them louder.
It's very similar to a subwoofer enclosure 😅 I have built some of those as well.
Hi, is this the last Video on this bike? Will you finish this?
There are plenty of more videos made after this one. Here is the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLWtjKiF4S6JuHkILMxfIbpi4HuKDKEh7d&si=kBgoEeCcXc_53Dbf I have had a pause from the build, but will soon continue 😊
Best looking CM 400 T I found so far. Curious.
@@Abandon7d It's a CB400 Super Dream, it had different name in the US though...
@@kihestad Did you finish the build?
WoodPrix woodworking plans are nice for that.
It seems to me that running an air compressor inside a closed box would likely cause the motor to run hot and reduce it's life span.
@@cal4625 That is why a fan is added to blow fresh air through the box. I have been monitoring the temp inside the box, the temp increases 10C when running and cools down after some few minutes.
Just put the thing in another room or outside under a built cover and route your hose. Is trhis so difficult?
That's a good solution 👍 I have no space for it outside my garage, and my neighbors are happy for that 😅
Totally ridiculous
Yes, totally 😅
Of course it's a good idea to have a sound insulating enclosure. You just need to learn how to build it. You need more flexibility between compressor and enclosure. You need thicker absorption mats in the intake and outlet labyrinths. Your thin layers will not absorb the low frequencies from the compressor. You probably also need absorption mats in your enclosure to cover all the inner walls, floor and roof (It was difficult to see your final project in the video).
I agree 👍 I used 3cm Rockwool special purpose sound absorbing material inside the main chamber, that works great. Soft rubber to dampen vibrations is smart, I plan to add that 😊
the real silent compressor is make with hermetic engine like these used on fridge. I have one unit with dual compressor.. that silent !
Yes, I have seen these lately. They are a bit more limited when it comes to capacity, but if you don't use heavy power tools these seem to be unbeatable 😊
You should try out a piece of foam between the enclosure and the floor to stop some of the vibration from traveling through the floor.
@@banepigeon Yes, that is a good tips. I will improve that 👍
Great video Mr Hestad! There is a RUclips channel I sometimes watch called Shoyan Japanese Carpenter - it is amaaazing. The standard in Japan just for basic carpentry is incredible.
Cool, I'll take a look 👍
@@GarrickPayne I took a look: I can see I need to improve 😬 The presisjon and attention to details was on a whole new level 🤩🤩🤩
@@kihestad yes it's quite mesmerising in a way, and makes me feel very inadequate 😂
@@GarrickPayne haha, exactly what I thought as well 😅
I'm enjoying going through your "back catalogue" (since I subbed anyway :P), you deserve waaaaaay waaaay _waaaaaay_ more subs!! I have the same bench as you although it's all red, got it a loooong _loooong_ time ago as a 40th bday present and absolutely need to do this upgrade now, where did you order the castors from? I was thinking of just taking a trip into Bauhaus, probly get them there or similar ones okay I'd think?
That is fun, I hope you can pick up a tip or two 😊 Adding the big wheels on my mc lift table has been one of my best mods 🤩 I bought them online, perhaps you can order similar ones from JLCMC (here is my affiliate link) : jlcmc.com/?from=KIH
Build all draws with narrowest measurements and use shims under the drawer slides.
I agree. It makes sense to simplify as much as possible. Fabricating 56 drawers and 16 trollies is a big job. It will simplify the job quite a lot making 8 equal ones at a time, instead of everyone having different measurements 😳
This is a lot of work but I would rather spent time to restore and make it look like the original beauty. But this is a matter of taste.
Absolutely a matter of taste! I would say this bike is not very "special", it's many of them around. Motorcycles with small production volumes, and older ones that is getting rare, I would rather restore than customizing them. Restomod might be somthing in between, that is what I have done with my latest motorcycle, keeping the old look but modernizing things that makes sense to improve.
Just buy a silent compressor
Exactly!
It's fit fantastic. But if you don't worry about space, just do only two easy things. Set sheets of soundproof sponge (triangle type), around and above compressor. It doesn't need to be close. And srew your compressor to flat hard plate, then place it one the same sponge. Work is done. Sound is a vibration, it's doesn't matter how good it is locked in box, but how effective you reduce vibration of standing platform and air coming to you.
@@BobKreator That was a creative solution, did you try it in real life?
I removed the original compressor/electric motor and installed a refrigerator compressor, super super sillent now
@@flyby320 can't be much more silent than that 👍😊
Its actually about 2x4” at first, before its dried and planed. After drying to about 15-20% moisture and then getting planed it ends up being 45x95mm. At least in Sweden :)
It is mainly the planing stage. You can buy rough sawn 50x100mm, or planed 44x95mm.
Alright, I did not know that 😊
Learning something new every day 🙏
I think perfect would be to build a fully closed and insulated box and then install proper valves to outside for air intake & cooling. Box is insulated so cold air wont be a problem in the winter either.
That would probably work very well 👍 Somewhat of a bigger job though, the ventilation channels also needs to be sound proofed, and the downside is the noise pushed out to the neighbors 😳
If you're in the US... Always buy from California AIR 56dB ... *Mic Drop*
I've heard much positive about them 👍 we don't have them here in Europe, but they are made in China and might be very similar to other brands we have here
catching up with your channel haha I'm glad we have a new and different project! hope motorbikes fans won't go away 🍀
I hope so too 🤞 although it's not directly related to my motorcycle projects, it is very relevant: having an efficient storage solution makes my motorcycle projects progress faster as well 😊
nice XD
Thanks 🙏
I will say it again. You are the most organised person I have ever come across so any suggestions I could have made on the last video would have been pointless. My only suggestion for the very top section is to not have a drawer, but have an opening flap like the storage bins on an aeroplane. A drawer at the very top will be too difficult to see and reach into.
It was funny you should suggest that, I have actually thought about the exact same thing 😊 Would think it's a good idea then, since we booth thought about it 😁
@@kihestad make it a slide in tray you can completely move. A bin will just end up collecting things at the back you can't reach!
@@juststeve5542 The top most shelf will not be very deep, I think maybe just a fixed shelf is good enough as it will be easy to see what's on it. I will probably need boxes inside some of the drawers to organize smaller content, that could work inside a top compartment with a flip up door as well
@kihestad Great minds think alike I guess. I'm sure you can get small gas struts to support the flip up doors from the same place as the drawer sliders. Or just latch them to the roof while open.
I think the hallway of 1.2m is a good size, also allows you to put stuff down around you as you pull out the drawers. Thanks for going into the details of your build, looks like an awesome idea for the size and space you have...
That is true, especially for the trollies a bit of floor space is probably smart 😊
If you have to store stuff in your attic....you have to much stuff!!
You are absolutely right 😞😅
hahaha... when you say okay!!?? With the door is to high. This reminds me of the two good neighbors 🤣 end up with a saloon swing door in the end 🤣👏🏻 They actually stopped calling it 2x4 a long time ago. They only operate around mm measures and has done it for at least 10 year or more. Looong time since you did woodwork? 🤪 I think this is just a matter of speech that is hard to stop. Great work mr.Hestad. Looking forward to the next one.
Haha, we oldtimers still call it "2-tom-4-tom" ("tom" is short for "tomme" = "inch" in Norwegian) - al least we do around here where I live, we all know its 48x98 but 2x4 is just so much easier to say 😊
@@kihestad Here in UK everyone I know still uses the old 2 by 4 name. Same with 6 by 2 and the other common sizes. So many construction dimensions were originally defined in inches, they look silly in metric.
@@kihestad yes, in the UK it is often called one or the other, or a mix. To add to that, 2x4 is a fairly lax dimension, and it is often a pre finished dimension, so once planed down it is smaller (probably why your 48mm for 2" - when 2" is 50.8mm)
Great video, staggeringly project! Do you really need that much high-in-the-building storage? I know it would annoy your OCD spirit, but I would mass-produce the drawers, sized for the smallest opening, and I think most would not notice 10mm discrepancy between largest and smallest gaps (who but you would see it anyway?). If it really did upset you, you could design the drawer-fronts to hide the gaps. Anyway, watching with interest! Les 🇬🇧
Thanks 😊 The problem will be attaching the drawer slides to the frame. I think the width of the drawers plus width of the drawer slides on each side must match the width of the available space in between the framework. I could compensate by adding thin spacers to adjust the width, perhaps it's a bit less work.
@ ah! Of course! I’d forgotten the drawer-slides. Just my daft comment.. forgive me! Les
@@leslieaustin151 hehe, np - you gave me actually a good idea about making the fronts hiding the gaps 💡
@@kihestadyou can instead make different thickness spacers between the slides and the frame to adjust the difference
@Frank-Thoresen Spacers is actually a very good idea! I can even 3D print those - I think that's the way to go 👍
I'd just go with the last part of the video: move the compressor to a less inhabited space, and if you really want to reduce the noise level more add noise dampening between the compressor and the floor, and close the door between your space and the compressor.
@@WoWFREAK1336 Yes, moving the air compressor away from the workspace is smart in many ways 😊 Agree about adding vibration damping as well 👍

Thank You! 😎
My pleasure! 😊
ever heard of a pully?! work smarter, not harder! your killing me, im worn out just watching you haul it upstairs...any handyman worth a damn should have at least a few pulleys laying around. I love the cost break down at the end, it did not cost me too much because I already had it...ummm?
Haha, I have added pulley to my Christmas present list 😅
İ think double glass box will reduce much more the noise..
That would have been a nice solution, at least a cool design 😊
I have an idea, that might work or might not. I am sure it would work but also am sure it would be a pain. You could get some of those thick rubber bungee cords, and suspend the compressor in the box. That way the vibration wouldn't translate to the floor
I think you are right. It will probably work, in theory 😊 An easy and practical solution, perhaps not 😅
How do you access the bleed valve to empty the water from the tank?
As it is now I need to open the door and take it out of the box. It's a bit cumbersome, so I am planning to add a line / braded hose and have a tap to drain it on the outside.
@ thanks for the reply! Take care!
@RichardT2112 np - u2 😊
There are many flaws in your logic for choosing your design features. If I would build it, I might want to mount the compressor on some sort of spring coils, so that the vibrations don't go into the ground.
Agree about adding vibration damping to the compressor and to the box as well to limit vibrations beeing transferred to the floor. Probably a lot of other things could be improved as well 😊
Don’t forget to drain condensation from the compressed air cylinder!
You're absolutely correct 👍 I might add a line to the outside of the box, now I need to take the compressor out of the box to drain it. It's a bit cumbersome 😔
I got a second hand Jun-air compressor, its virtually silent, about the same sound a fridge makes. Its amazing. New they are very expensive but you can often get good deals online. Mine came out of a dental surgery.
That's interesting, is it good enough capacity to run power tools?
@@kihestadyeah it's just like any compressor it's size it just distant make any sound. You'd never even know it was running, I have to touch it sometimes to see if it's running
That is impressive 🤩 I do visit the dentist every year for a check so I should have known, never heard any noise ever from any air compressor but I understand they have one 😊
@ they are amazing, no one can ever believe how quiet they are, I have it in a shed next to my work area and I have unlimited compressed air without ever hearing any noise. If you can't find Jun-air look for Bambi, they are similar
15:20 There will be a lot of loss in that blue hose.....
Not sure if I understood that, loss of what? 🤔 Noise escaping where the hose goes out of the box?
6:40 You also need to mechanically (thus accoustically) decouple the compressor from the box....Same as you would do with a wooden floor....
Yes, I agree. Will put on soft rubber to better handle vibrations in between of the compressor and the inside box floor, and on the outside between the box and the floor!
