I don't know if there are any local colleges or schools that offer welding classes. I few classes on TIG will make a world of difference but really practice is the biggest thing. Practice on different thicknesses and round tubing. Your first attempts look better than mine did, so you should pick it up pretty quickly, it isn't nearly as difficult as some people make it out to be.
Oj. An uninsulated door that size must be a bit challenging. Good thing you have the Gulf Stream helping you out there or your electric bill would be something.
It is, the wood has some insulated properties but not much. I have thought about adding insulation on the inside of the door. Normally I just don't use my garage as a workshop the coldest days during winter time 😊
"I'm just going to use this electrode I've sharpened earlier" Yeah... until you decide to add some tungsten to your weld puddle :P These machines are quite ubiquitous, I bought a "Fortune Weld" machine some years ago with the same model number, and it works like a treat, both for simple steel, stainless and aluminium. I'd recommend getting a better torch though, this makes it a lot easier to find a comfortable position. I bought a CK Weld CK9 Flex, and it's _way_ easier to use (and it's tiny!).
I think I had to sharpen the tip 100 times during my testing, most of the times I managed to push the filler rod into the electrode 😝 Upgrading the torch sounds like a good advice, I did actually miss the possibility to adjust the tip to fine tune the position.
Very random side question, but what make-model is your garage door and how does it hold temp below -20 weather? The welding looks very good, at least compared to my first attempts with a stick welder which were - interesting.
I don’t know much about the garage door, it was delivered by the company (XL-Bygg) that supplied all the materials to the garage. It non insulated wood, not made for a heated garage really. I do struggle keeping my garage warm using my heat pump if below -10 Celsius. It’s normally no colder than just a few degrees below zero here during the winter. I manage to get a decent temp inside, but an insulated garage door would have been much better.

Your welding looks like a highly successful first attempt at TIG to me.
