Engine Service and New Sound Test - Fixing the Elefant - Episode #6

- My Cagiva 750 Elefant has a Ducati engine. It's leaking oil, suitable to fix togheter with oil change and timing belts replacements. The timing belts are actually sux years old, should have been replaced four years ago.
I have also bought a new dB-killer to the muffler, so it will be new sound / noise test as well. Hopefully it sounds a bit better than the last try.
This video is part of a video series where I am trying to get my Cagiva 750 Elefant fixed in quite a hurry! I have promised to go on a roadtrip together with my friend @tshansen , can I get my bike ready in time?

As an old Ducati (748 SPS) owner, I know how much work that goes into this job of changing the timing belts when you don't have the right tools. I made a tool out of some old bicycle parts, same when I had to change the clutch on that thing 😂 This was so great to watch. The quality and perfectly composed shots is a joy to watch 🙌🏻 It looks like our trip will be sooner, rather than later 🤣 Really well done mr.Hestad 🎥
It seems like Ducati likes to make these specific tools, I have four of them now 🥴 I had hoped to be ready during May, but it looks like I need some more episodes before I am ready 🤞
@@kihestad Yeah, but don't stress it, august is a great month as well 😂
Nah, I'll be done soon 😬 The trip MUST HAPPEN 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
A new épisode, Nice !
For the seal if it doesn’t come easly a good tip is to use a screw and then pull from it ( being careful to bot touch the sides with the screw)
At that pace she Will be newer than the ténéré ! 😊
Thanks for the tips! 👍Well, it's not easy to get a bike from the 90s to be as good as a brand new bike, but I'll do my best 😊
Turning piston without any oil to get out last drops of oil to be sure piston always gets the cleanest oil possible. An alternative to common logic.
The pistons go up and down, it's the crankshaft that's turning 😊 It's a lot of oil channels inside the engine, mine is also fitted with an oil cooler. A lot of oil is trapped inside the engine, when running the starter motor the oil pump is also running and it pushes some more of the old oil from the channels and the oil cooler into the oil pan. There will always be some old oil remaining in the engine, but this method gets out a bit more compared to just draining it. Got it?
Great video as always! Probably my favourite channel currently, always happy to see one of your videos show up in my feed!
Wow, thanks! 😊 Very motivating to hear 🙏🙏
Thank you for making the videos. It always brightens my day to watch your quality videos.
Very glad to hear that 🙏
Love the many videos you are putting out lately! Thank you!
Glad you like them 🙏 I am having so much fun fixing my Cagiva, it's a much easier project than my cafe racer project (that takes forever).
nice test!!!!!!! I'm glad the problem with found last episode wasn't bad at all haha
Found a opportunity to add a bit of drama 😁
Great job 👍
Thanks 👍
I usually mark the old timing belts with smal dots of paint where the timing marks are, and "transfer" the dots to the new belt (counting teeth between marks), just to be 100% sure that I don't accidential misalign with one tooth or so :-)
I have done that myself as well when I have done this job on cars, especially when it's difficult to see the markings properly because of tight space. I found it to be a very good layout and easy access to the belt on this Ducati engine 😊
Yep, I have 4 Ducati's and do this religiously with tippex, yeah I know you don't have to but it gives me satisfaction :)
@@Farlig69 Wow, four Ducatis 🤩 I guess you know your way around timing belts 😊
@@kihestad 😆😆😆😆
Good work KI. Ticking off task after task is a good therapy! Lovely bike, though too big for me. Following all your work with interest. Les in UK 🇬🇧
It's quite a bit beast, I guess it's named Elefant for a reason 😅
Great Video, I think it may be one of your best so far. Personally I think the sound is much improved. Well done.
Ahh, glad to hear that Ryan 🙏 Agree about the sound, and it's not too loud either
Love your videos mate ,very interested in your version of the blue unit. Lights you made ,keep up the good work 👍
Thanks 🙏 I'll continue building the ctrl-mc computer over the summer. It's probably the project I am most excited about 😊
Still waiting to hear the honda fired up my friend👍
I have put the project on hold for some weeks while I am fixing my adventure bike. Will get back to it asap 🤞
Shame about the fake nickel, got mine from China via ebay, and all worked out well after a bit of experimenting to get a feel for things. I was only doing brackets and bolts, nothing as ambitious as exhaust pipes.
My next purchase is from China / eBay as well, hope for better luck this time 🤞
Such a joy to watch this series! Well done. I am curious about your choice of oil. Have you experienced any issues with Motul? I use either Bel Ray or Bardahl, both work better in my case with Yamaha TDM 850 4TX. Engine runs smoother and the gear changes are smoother as well. Either way, amazing work so far. Can't wait to see it on the road!
I have actually no experience with Motul. The only reason I use it is because I got it very cheap from my neighbors who bought quite a lot of it cheap from an outlet. My neighbors said it did not work well for the clutch on his Suzuki (type road racing), so he pushed it to me - "it will probably work out fine for you since you have dry-clutch" he said 🥴😅
Are you a Supergiant fan? Enjoyed some Bastion? The music sounds familiar.
Sorry to say but that has to be a coincident, I have just picked some songs with some kind of mood to them that I though was suitable for this build series. Now you got me curios, I need to Google Supergiant and Bastion 😜
After listening back and forth I now realise they're pretty different but the song you chose at 5:50 sounds a lot like "In case of trouble" from Bastion's OST.
Supergiant also make the Hades games you might have heard of. The songs sound like they share some DNA to my ear at least. Did Daren Korb make the song you picked? What's it called?
Sounds really good. I wonder if you could share settings you used for that retro effect at the start of the video.
The retro-effect is made using a default effect in Davinci Resolve named: Analog Damage. A lot of settings can be tweaked, I used the "Clean VHS" preset and made some few adjustments from there.
@@kihestad It's very cool. I have done a similar effect in Premiere Pro, but yours looked better. Looking forward to the next video and, eventually, the trip.
I noticed that you did not pre-fill the oil filter with oil before re-installing. On purpose?
I used to do it, but found out I normally had to refill up to the correct level anyway. I am just running the engine with the starter motor for a while instead.
So frustrating when you get scammed by online sellers. Pity you cant claim back your time and the other materials from them too
Yes, it has been too many of those lately 😔
😳Whats up? You mount the timingbelt covers without spraypainting them ? YOU ????
Haha, I know 😅 It was not an easy decision 😬 For once I am sticking to my the priority task list!
