The best advice I can give you is to test it first on the free remote play app at your dad's first. Good WiFi is really just another way of saying 'stable' WiFi. The speeds don't need to be anything special, but the quality and stability of the WiFi does. That's why I'd test it first, before buying :)

Yes, the portal works fabulously on 5GHz and on a hotspot. This video was purely about the public WiFi update which absolutely does not support 5GHz when you're connecting to a network that lies behind a landing page like at Starbucks, McDonald's etc.

You just need to have finished the game for the first time. Once you've done that you can wear the optional clothing anywhere :)

I sincerely wish you and your son all the very best. I hope his surgery goes smoothly and that he makes a swift and full recovery. The Portal doesn't do so great on public WiFi though so even with everything setup perfectly at home, it may not work well (or at all) on the hospital's own WiFi. If you have any way of getting some mobile data to him via a phone or a mobile router, that might be a better option if the coverage is good. Either way, best of luck for tomorrow my friend in Croatia :)

I am going to use mobile data since I have that on unlimited because I am going to use business phone and my director allows me to use for that purpose specially. Everything is covered and everything will be all right 🥰 and back home when my son will be in recovery status, he can stay in his room with PS Portable and play and rest as much as he can ☺!

Correct, you can't be playing it at the same time. You'll be able to connect, but I'm pretty sure that will just kick him off (I'd have to double check that, but you definitely can't play simultaneously)

You can either set the static IP on the console itself which is the easiest way. Or you can set it so that your router always gives the console the same static IP via the router itself. This way is a bit more involved but also has a couple of extra advantages. Do whichever your feel is the best for you though :)

It's simply not possible, not as of yet at least. This particular hack was reported to Sony at the time and patched very quickly.

Sort of. You can leave the console in rest mode and set it so that the Portal wakes it when it initiates the connection. But with it being a remote play device, it does mean that the PS5 has to be fully on when streaming. When you're done gaming, you can use the Portal to set it back into rest mode.

It's gotta be one of the worst things that's ever been broadcast on a screen, and I've watched Birdemic 😳😁

I think any competitive game played at a competitive level is probably not the best idea on the Portal, just because every millisecond counts. But certainly for casuals or everyday folk, it's great.

If you have a decent Android phone, you can just share the Public WiFi connection directly to the Portal too.

That's pretty odd, which router do you have?

@@TheGameFatherUK I have a Comcast xb7. It is odd. I can’t seem to figure out what went wrong. I have deleted all port forwarding and set Ip back to automatic. Also reset my PlayStation back to factory. But it will not get more than 100mbps. I tested my sons ps5 on the same connection and his is getting 800ish mbps.

I did have a similar issue on one of my switches at home whereby the LAN port suddenly switched to 100mbps instead of 1gbps. I only had to unplug the LAN cable and reboot it for it to recognise it back at 1gbps. Easy one to try just to rule it out. You can also check the colour of the light on the router lan port that your PS5 is plugged into. If it's flashing orange, it's operating at 10/100, if it's green it's at the full 1gbps

You need to set a static IP for the console, the portal's IP doesn't matter :)

Ports only need to be open on the network that's accepting traffic from an external source. So if your PS5 is at home, you'd only need to open the ports on your home router. You wouldn't need to do the same on the router you're connected to away from home :)

Personally I got the genji gloves and then completed hard mode. I did most of the combat VR missions before I finished hard mode but left the hardest few until after.

When you're away, especially for longer periods, it could be something as simple as a minor power cut that's resulted in the console being off. You'd need to remove that as a variable really before trying anything else like factory reset ect

I personally use EE on my Pixel 7 and don't have any issues. Will the Portal connect to your PS5 when you're away from home on a friend or family members home WiFi? There is an EE APN that you can download that a lot of iPhone users have said worked for them, but I'm really not sure if it's applicable on an S21. Might need a restart after.

Well at least that rules out any issues with port forwarding etc, if it works from a different WiFi away from then it must be an issue with the phone/EE. Are you able to try a different SIM in the phone?

@TheGameFatherUK unfortunately no, I've looked online and alot of people seem to have the same issue with EE (presumably because of NAT Type 3), but if you're saying it works for you - I'm wondering what you're doing differently

I'm only on the pay as you go monthly thing that they do where you get so much data etc, it's not a contract. I can't see it being a different service though, can you? Also, I'm not convinced that CGNAT is really a problem at the Portal end of the connection. It's certainly an issue if that's at the home/router side but that can't be the case for you since you can connect from external WiFi. Thinking about it... On the PAYG service I'm using, that doesn't support 5G, which is reserved for contract users. I wonder if that's a thing?

Hey there. Getting the Portal to work on known networks away from home like at a friends house or via mobile data can be a little tricky but not usually impossible (usually). You'll need to check that your home internet connection isn't using something called CGNAT which more and more ISP's are now adapting (for good reasons, they aren't just being bastards). You can check that with them directly. If your connection at home isn't using CGNAT, then it'll just be a matter of configuring your network to allow the connection to your PS5 from an external source. It doesn't support RUclips natively, but you can get onto it via a browser trick if you really want to. The thing is, it's just a streaming device, it's not really designed to do anything but that :)

@@emmanuelwolfmusic410 It's more so a trick on the PS5 than on the Portal, but because the Portal is streaming the PS5 it works (or at least it used to, I haven't re-tested it recently). You have to send/receive a link via PS Chat which will then open in a browser, then you can navigate to RUclips via that. I'm sure there's a bunch of RUclips videos showing how to do it (assuming it does indeed still work).

I kind of agree with you, it is undoubtably better at home. But it is definitely meant to be used away from home and Sony have marketed it as such. It's built on fairly old tech that's been used that way for many years. But that tech, when used on a phone, PC, laptop, tablet or whatever, will work just fine connecting to a public network because they all have built in web browsers. This update is utterly pointless in that regard, just give us a browser or enable 5GHz networks for authenticating on a landing page 🙏

I can't say I've tested it in the game before completion of the main story as you get a significant boost to XP once you've completed the game. I'm sure it'll still be a faster grind than any other spot, but it'll be nowhere near as fast as when you've finished the story the first time.
