    Your format's ban list is awful. I can still play 90% power Fiendsmith Yubel and like 85% power Azamina Snakes. Solves literally nothing. Just spent like an hour picking through the list for what current meta decks still got through and I'm woefully unimpressed. The ban list is thoroughly incompetent and doesn't at all achieve the intended goal. I can still play Azamina Snakes with 13 hand traps, even more if I didn't like TacTalents so much. I can 100% shove twenty hand traps into a deck right now no problem. There's more HT's than Ash, Veiler, Imperm. I kinda vibe with the IDEA of the format but the CURRENT execution at the time of writing (11/28/24) is WAY off the mark and hardly checks anything at all.

      Also almost every "boss monster" hit to prevent "cheap OTKs" does not in any way prevent cheap OTKs. Just looking at the ban list I can build a Fiendsmith Kash deck similar to YCS Bologna and be okay. This list does not stop anyone who is TRYING to win. There are still crazy strong OTKs available that take exactly three cards to access.

    big banlists have the problems of difficulty checking when building a deck. i do think that s:p is powerful, but since it allows every deck to do SOMETHING after getting railed by handtraps, it is healthy and shouldnt be on semi-restr. it literally fixes "you handtrap your opponent to death and play as if you were going first" problem without adding unnecessary hits to handtraps. in this sense, I:P deserves the chop more because it gives access to S:P on opponents turn with its banish effect.

    This is too complicated to check for tournaments. Banning arctypes and decks is the best way in addition to the banlist and adding few more cards. Also stun and anti skill cards needs to be a bit available so the unskilled can win sometimes too. The game and humans need a bit of unfair advantage and toxicity to function. The price is far more important point. Players should make their own meeting places and locals like pooking a place and have thir own tourments extra.... Where Proxy is aloud as long it is not a custom card.

      Hard disagree, a smaller version of this is implemented on Duel Links now just needs to be expanded upon and I liked what I saw so far in this video. Makes the format less oppressive all around and even allows lower power decks to be able to play.

    These changes seem necessary imo, yes, adding restrictions to deck building makes a complex game like yugioh even more complex 😂 but the changes aint really all that hard to understand and it really would help put a power ceiling on decks and allow us to play the cool modern cards but without ruining the fun. The way the banlist worked hasn’t changed since like 2006 but the game has, a lot, it’s just outdated for the game’s current power level

      Pretty much everything is extremely weakened from tcg format. Voiceless is one of those deck that's hard to hit since it basically does 1 thing and 1 thing very well. Sets up an omni negates and pass. If you nerf that, then you kill the deck. Since you don't want to do that, then the next best thing is to reduce the amount of things that surround it to cap its power level.

If you have these you MIGHT be able to do... anything, but if you dont have them... then its just a one player game. I have never seen a game where every part of it works against itself before yugioh, not even paper mario sticker star is that bad... AND I LOVE YUGIOH

    Neither. The problem is easily fixable: limit handtraps to ATAXIMUM 4 *PER DECK*. No matter which ones, 4 total handtraps in your deck, meaning that your ass will have to decide when and what to pop, because if you f*ck it up, thats it.

    the problem with hand traps is when they can be freely activated such as with maxx c or lancea. the heathier ones are in response to an effect like effect veiler or droll and lock bird (which does not negate the effect is responds to). the other isue with hand traps is that there are very few outs against them in the start of the duel. board breaks are better especially when they let you play the game and a good answer against floodgates. dark ruler no more was a big help for this. kaiju's as well despite ironically their own archetype as a deck itself being irrelevant.

    I don’t think it’s as simple as one is toxic and the other is not. Board breakers can be super toxic, especially when combined. And also considering that you can all but guarantee access with a card like TT Thrust. If your opponent activate one card that invalidates everything you try/tried to do, it doesn’t matter whether they do it during or after your combo. The real issue is decks that are SO efficient that you guaranteed draw 2-3 of these cards AND still do your full combo.

    None of them are fine in the state they are in right now. HT should only be usable when you control no other cards (the more powerful ones like Imperm should lock you or get field presence to prevent other HTs to be used like Nibiru). Also Board breakers shouldn’t be quick effects and shouldn’t deny grind games (preventing crack back is fine like Silent GY but to banish face down like Evenly is just terrible). The argument is for HT you need to play engine centric decks that can push through a lot of cards or alternatively with board breakers you want cards that force a grind game. In HT centric formats a larger variety of playstyles are useable (control and combo) vs board breaker format with midrange decks being able to dominate. That is at least my opinion on it

    Great video. The common consensus in the community is that handtraps are a "necessary evil". I cringe every time I hear that. No, they are part of the evil. Handtraps encourage either unhealthy gameplay in the form of turn skips like Shifter, Droll and Lancea or unhealthy deckbuilding in the form of choosing the deck that has the strongest combo and most slots for handtraps. Playing board breakers almost always gives both players a chance to play and punishes the opponent for not playing around them, which is skill expression. Since they always trade up in card economy you don't need to open critical mass which allows for more flexibility and variety in deckbuilding. Playing board breakers makes you a better player because you get to play the game. Throwing handtraps at each other doesn't make you a better player. You either skip their turn or the ht had minimal impact. There are a few solutions to this, but I don't think Konami will implement any of them since obviously they want skillless sacking to be a part of the game, seeing as they limit all floodgates. I do think some handtraps are healthy and are great designs, like Nibiru and Phantazmay, but the ones you cannot play around are insanely poorly designed, like Ash, Shifter, Maxx C etc. One solution that just crossed my mind while watching this video is getting a card similar to Typhon where any deck can summon it but only going second and it shuts down handtraps from activating.

    I never hated hand traps until they started negating cards on both turns without a target. Although I will admit, hand traps wouldn't be as bad if we didn't have so many one card combos.

    Floodgates are actually a good thing in the game. And they are a thing in every game not even card games. Floodgates slow the game down and grind decks like eldlich can play it to gain advantage over time. If you destroy the skill drain it’s gone forever until you draw it again which is unsearchable. Meanwhile if you somehow manage to break the 10 negate board that every deck makes. It will come back next turn since everything floats and has effects in the grave etc. I much rather stare down a skill drain over a snake eye or yubel board.

    Floodgates (or at least some of them) are fine, the problem is modern Yu-Gi-Oh which is too fast and gives you no chance to draw the out over multiple turns. People that think floodgates are the problem don't understand game design whatsoever.

      @@Saho-primus its slightly different, since sadly branded fusion got limited which was stupid. i ran a small despia package it with 3 aluber, 2 branded opening, and 1 branded banishment. use to run 3 branded fusion but now you need to compensate for that. ran 3 super Polly, with 1 interfusion, i think it was two of the predaplant pendulums aling with 1 sundew, and the scurpio, lonefire covra package. the extra deck was really cool though. if you run staysaylor romarin you can cheat a fusion into the grave for some fun plays. also ran hex seal light in the main to cheat out dragoon. theres a lot more too it but hopefully that helps.

    Something I disagree with. Skilless players will beat skillfull players. Easier decks act as a filter against skill-less players IMHO. Wich is something that is good for everyone's growth as players.

    Noo. Boardbreakers are bad too on average, super poly can't answer, evenly without negates, dark ruler, droplet. The good breakers are cosmic, mst, these type of cards. Now getting dark ruler or evenly than getting a full plant combo or a full unchained combo back in the unchained days is not healthier, it's bad. We should look to have Tearlaments and Runick decks, engine, engine and engine. Just watch the Hani vs Kotton Tear mirror, fantastic! Or Joshua vs Dihn-Kha Runick Spright mirror, elite play! Also Kash mirror on NAWCQ 2023 top 4, back and forth battle, low impact cards cosmic and Fenrir.

    Yeah, that's the thing. If we were in a board braker format. At least both player get to play. At least one has a chance and one has choice. However, for that to work no deck should be allowed to put up a gimmick puppet lock, or a calamity lock or a Kali Yuga lock or stuff like that, where the player going first can literally build an unbreakable board and or the player going 2nd doesn't get to play. But, yeah, in an ideal world, every game would be something like this: Player 1 does their combo uninterrupted and had the choice on what to end on, because you have actually multiple in-engine options for your end board pieces and Player 2 tries to build up their board, while dismantling the board of the opponent. (solving a puzzle while putting up up one's own puzzle) And maybe it actually goes several turns back and forth and each decks have their risky full combo option but also the more moderate grind game options. That would be nice. I know, that we are all convinced that decks have their identity of either being combo or being controle or being midrange. But it would be nice, if one had the option to choice what works best in the current moment (at least more or less, depending on the hand).

    At the end of the day, they're all non-engine. It's feels bad regardless if you don't draw enough/any of either. Just do away with turns. We kinda had that with Tearlament(and Bystials during dark/light dominant formats) but Konami is run by cowards who won't commit. I don't understand why people are still pretending that the concept of a turn matters when we've had video evidence of people having to Nibiru _on their own turn_ as far back as 2018. By this point in time, even _rogue_ decks will have combo lines for their opponent's turn if allowed to go first. Dragonmaids in their prime could engineer a combo that allows them to tutor a card out of the deck onto the field, rip a card out of the opponent's hand, search a card, then make Borreload Savage Dragon as a fourth negate. _Dragonmaids._ It's hard to pinpoint the exact point turns as a concept died, but it was definitely on life support when Shaddolls came into the game, and it's _very_ easy to scapegoat Orcust as the one to officially pull the plug considering their field spell. If going second players aren't going to be given the courtesy of having their own turn to themselves outside of interruptions, why should going first players be afforded the same luxury? Because they lucked their way into going first? Keep in mind, I've made and played the decks that do this "our turn" nonsense, I just hate how inequitably distributed it is between going first and second, because now not only does the going second player have to drag themselves through the interruptions, they also have to deal with the opponent accruing extra resources for a followup after their opponent has already retrieved some extra resources prior to their own turn starting, and some of those resources _may even have additional interrupts ready to be flung at them._ This isn't solely located in mega combo decks either, _control_ decks(and sometimes stun) do the same thing! I can easily point to Altergeist and Labyrinth. In conclusion... Just make play starters quick effects, we're already basically 50% of the way there anyways.

    Hand traps are infinitely more healthy than board breakers, at least with hand traps you have a little wiggle room to play around it.

    I personally prefer breakers. But my reasoning is because I enjoy both fusion and ritual mechanics which are objectively the worst in the game. They are very engine and resource heavy. So because of that I feel breakers are the only logical solution.

    Handtraps to me became so utterly useless. I used to play so many different decks with usually ~12 handtraps in the 40 card deck and never ever were they really useful. A single Ash, a single Imperm, sometimes even a whole Droll just don't do anything anymore. I so often get an Ash in my face, then a Veiler and maybe another Imperm and I'm still like "Ok, and?". I rather play 10-13 Boardbreakers then and tear my opponents boards down with ease. Mostly because decks that are reliant on going first (which is like 99% of all decks that are being played) are so incosistent. I rather build a deck that wants to go second from start on rather than a deck that is a basicly instalose when I lose a 50:50 dice roll.

    Dunno how crazy of a take this is but I think ultimately both need to be balanced around going second primarily I think that would make going second feel a lot better over all but would remove the issue of going second and still getting interrupted by hand traps and any breakers

    I say triple down and make stronger board breakers, bounce the entire field, banish a graveyard, tribe infecting virus, but banish, spin all spells and traps. My inner demon speaks. I can keep going

    Board Breakers allow you to play Yugioh. Hand traps prevent the opponent from playing Yugioh. Pick your poison.
