Yea those are terrible. They’ve managed to make the game even less interactive. I left yugioh for magic and enjoy it. I can spend $40 for a cheap commander deck vs yugioh before branded got cheaper I spent $250 for a deck which was crazy. The formats have the same decks with almost the same cards is pretty much unfun to play. Yugioh has to do better
@@josephcourtright8071 me and a few friends went through a bulk box and made a deck which was $40. It wasn’t bad. I won a few games with it but I now upgrade my cards every so often
You can make any and I mean any deck competitively but it’s how you build it.but also the ban list is what hurts decks the most but the other thing that hurts decks is archetypes that don’t have enough and/or better support
I like power creep to a certain degree. I just don't like the consistency added with power creep like summon-search parties, one card combos, and generic extra deck monsters. Omni Negate were okay when it was counter traps doing it. I think giving effect monsters "quick effects" was a mistake. And last but not least, Miss-timing is absolutely stupid. I think all effects should trigger when their respective conditions are met, regardless of their spell speed. That way you don't get cheated out of effects due to unnecessary technicalities.
I miss when forbidden lance was a staple for a format. Usually when the forbidden cards (besides droplet) gain meta relevance (never will happen again), i tend to find myself enjoying the format more.
I use traptrix with a paleozoic engine. Only chance i have at beat other decks is using almost my entire board to negate stuff. It makes little sense how some decks can have like 3 potential combo starters in hand that can all search main combo starters, load the graveyard, board break, AND throw a couple of negates. Im just getting back into yugioh (my limited knowledge is based on early duel links, stopped when syncros came in) so it still learning and its hella hard trying to figure out what all these cards do, what the search, what end boards to stop, how to break boards of 2 negates and an untargetable. It make no sense i can have 5 backrow that interrupts, all in archetype, and the opponents wins because of stuff like snake eyes just have almost endless combo potential, and i recently found out that the archetype has no “boss” monster so now its a fight to see what you even gonna set up because really no part of your actual deck is on the endboard. Yugioh is too much. I see why ppl love the game from a distance.
If Konami wanted the game to thrive I'd say lower the power level of the game to a point that resembles what the best rouge decks can do. Example: I play on two separate MD accounts, on my main I'm typically in diamond/master and it's just miserable 90% of the time if you know you know. On the other I'm usually in gold/plat and games are generally very fun. Also where the heck is goat/Edison for MD! Take a hint Konami we know older ygo is better 😉
How do you propose them to lower the power level? Printing new cards always raises the power level. They could slaughter years of power creep on the banlist or create a completely new format. But they have a new player problem. If they make any significant change which makes people leave the game those people aren't going to be replace (at least not quickly). Best to just try to keep the whales happy and spending their money until the game dies.
Honestly. The Only TIME we had a Balanced format was During Zexal Era and after the Release of Cosmos Blazer! The Game Slowed Down! Most of the Monsters for Fire Fists were pushovers, they just had numbers and Three Damn good Continuous cards to help boost and stop your opponents. And Then Dragon Ruler/Spellbooks happened.
I'm super happy you have made this video, it really speaks to the core of Yugioh fans. Everyone has their own way of taking back the game, my example is making Yugioh Cubes centered around different eras since my friends love playing Yugioh but don't have a lot of their own cards, or they have not figured out a good way of balancing deck levels against one another, it makes us feel like we can step back into any of the 6 major Eras of the games history and we all like it a lot! So thank you for your voice and your honesty!
Rotation without deliberate low power design wouldn't solve anything. They need to revamp how they approach core sets and give them their own lower powered format to take the stress off Advanced. MTG had a good run with the Modern/Standard split and Standard sets always had a use since they were designed to be played with themselves in draft, sealed, and prerelease.
@@geek593 it all depended on how Konami would do a rotation. They could even keep it at a close power level but more control it due to what's legal. For example, snake eyes would be a pretty cool deck, just the extra deck monsters pushed it's power.
@@kimjung-un8204 You simply cannot have a game as power crept as modern Yugioh and expect it to be successful in rotation. Lower power levels are absolutely necessary to make sets actually worthwhile.
@@geek593 have you seen mtg and it's standard format vs it's other formats like pioneer and modern. Some standard decks could easily rival the power in pioneer and modern. You can easily have a high power standard format while having a high powered advanced format. For example branded, yubel, and fire kings could easily exist at a good power level. The issue with them is some older cards that break the decks. For branded it's the floodgates they summon off Albion. Yubel and fire kings/snake eyes is the power of the generic extra deck cards. Get rid of those parts and I'd say their power is fine.
@@kimjung-un8204 High power in Standard playable in Pioneer levels of busted in Magic is a 1 cost pump spell that gives +3+1 with a lingering +1+1 and trample. Monstrous Rage isn't searching your entire game's worth of cards out of your deck for free and answering every card in the opponent's hand before they've even gotten to play a single card. The power creep levels aren't even comparable. We'd need to drop down to pre-DUEA levels and even that might be too much.
Yugioh does not print new staples every set. We get plently of sets that tank in value because they have 0 impact. As far as product design goes its hard to Criticize the tcg, because unfortunatly most of our sets are based on the ocg. Example it was the tcg who first started the wave of duelist sets, but as the legendary decks. 30 dollars 3 decks a new cards and reprints. This was great value. But then the ocg messed it up. By doing the duelist sets, which are just bad on multiple levels. A bunch of new support, but it for old decks, and they dont put all the cards you need for that archtype in the set. So i got to buy old or find old cards, to use the new cards, but decks arent even good.
Let’s also talk about Kash. BS deck with Just as Many Cards that Activate through Banishing Cards! Gets annoying Every SINGLE TIME!!! I play Cubics, and Sadly I’ve been Getting Stomped by some of the Absolutely DUMBEST CARDS to ever Exist!
I love the Kashtira artworks, but I’m the first to say that punishing your opponent for playing the game is BS. Badly designed effects. I wish they were more like Mekk-Knights (my favorite archetype). They special summon themselves and have good effects, but they’re a lot more fun and have actual costs/restrictions. Kashtira has pretty much no downsides.
I personally have not played the game consistently over the years. Last time I played the game both digitally and in person was 2022. Before that it was 2020. 2018 was the first time since the Synchro era I actually played and I had to learn about both Xyz Summoning and Pendulum Summoning. Even during the Synchro era, it made me bitter because my deck was just too slow in compassion. Every time I get royally trounced, usually after 1 duel, I send myself back into exile. There was only 1 archtype that brought me back into the game and that was Formula Athletes from a Yugioh 101 channel. Ever since I saw the possibilities with that deck, I have perform a lot of tests in order to optimize its level manipulation capabilities. However, I still feel inadequate. Now, I'm researching for the most toxic deck out there to either slow the game down back to gen 1 standards or eliminate/lock out the extra deck completely! That is how bitter I have become. I have some ideas, but if it doesn't survive the first turn, I am screwed. This has become my villain arc.
You would think that if konami improved their printing practices and made their product worth buying over singles, that alone would increase their profits. Then if they balanced their game to keep the audience engaged, they wouldn't even need to worry about the prize support. Those 2 changes alone would keep people happy and i bet people would still play at nationals etc. For the sheer fun factor. When this game is firing on all cylinders, holy shit it's the best tcg out there, but it is just so bad most other times and borderline unplayable.
Sadly. I tried tcg for the first time in 6 months last night and it was miserable. Lockouts, million interrupts, negates. It was three ftks back to back to back
@@TheDuelingBeard I feel that. I don't get to play tcg much, but as far as MD goes, it is just straight degeneracy. Snake Eyes ftk, yubel appolusa lockouts, stun. It's just unplayable.
Hey, APS team RUclipsrs talk a lot about alternative formats or ways to improve the general experience for casual players by making up your own banlist and agree on it with your friends. They could sponsor your discord! I'm gonna join it btw
Glad to hear your joining! & that would be awesome, I’d love to collab with Paul or one of the other members of the team but I’m pretty small at the moment so I doubt they would.
Ah yes. Modern yugioh. Where if you dont open habdtraps or board breakers going seconds, you're stuck going against 10 negates, unoutable boss mondters, or an FTK combo. And if you stop them or break their board, pray that they dont have negates or handtraps. And that they brick/cant follow up next turn. And you OTK them fast because any turn after in the modern landscape is giving rhwm an opportunity to OTK and atart their combo all over again.
It's what happens when the game designers don't have a MTW to build and balance around they just flail in the dark and the decks that rise to the top aren't the fun ones but the ones that are the most efficient at the single axis of play that yugioh runs off these days
One Piece is creeping up and Bushiroad is having a bit of a resurgence with Vanguard seeming to have a great round of sets and Shadowverse Evolve being an alternative player-focused TCG. A huge chunk of the Japanese market is eaten up by collectable TCGs and not as much on the player side of things. Yugioh is still pretty dominant as the player's game but for the first time in a long time there's some heat in that space.
What kind of person wants to play through 6-9 maxx c’s? Like they think it’ll slow the game down and balance it, but that’s not true, it makes it worse, because you have to have the out crossout/ash spam your board or lose
I think Tenpai is okay if the field spell is at 1 cuz most decks can have counterplay to it. I think it's good to have a deck for people trying to learn the game that's relatively cheap, relatively easy to play, forces opponents to main deck backrow removal, and something that isn't stun where new players can actually learn Yugioh. Many people who play Tenpai are doing so cuz they're trying to actually learn Yugioh and can't afford a lot of other decks. That's a good thing. Other than that, I mostly agree. The bigger problem with Tenpai IMO is Shifter at 3 with decks having no real outs to it.
Fuck Tenpai. I was so exited when I first saw it, but then every time I end up playing against it, I end up feeling miserable as I witnessed the same combo again and again, similarly for Snake-Eye it just gets tiring seeing the same one card combo over and over again. While I don’t hate it as much as Tenpai, I feel that Snake-Eye has long since overstayed its welcome. Ironically I actually don’t really have any complaints when up against Yubel, I’ve gone up against it the most time and the few matches I have lost, I didn’t feel like I lost to an overpowered unfun deck, in fact usually my matches are usually rather back and forth when it comes to them. So if it came to choosing one of those three decks to stay, I would choose Yubel. (Although I will say that they probably should’ve made Spirit a once per turn, but even then I never ended up in a situation that I felt that I couldn’t get out of.)
@@dudeman209 Yeah that as well, honestly right now Snake-Eye isn’t as dominant right now as it was before the banlist, but the reason that I’m still so annoyed by it, is because I know that the moment that Azamina comes out, Snake-Eye will immediately shoot up to being the best deck, AGAIN.
That’s what I’m saying! No lie I just tested last night TCG format after playing exclusively the discord format for 6 months and I wanted to throw up, the game is broken
I hate how many otherwise good formats are ruined by 1-2 decks for the sole purpose of selling product. Konami has been nursing Snake Eye (and now Fiendsmith) for the sole purpose of making money for the past 9 months and so many otherwise interesting support waves are getting pushed by the wayside. You don't even have to go full-on roll back the game a full year to fix it either; the game's really enjoyable to play if you trim just the Tier 1 decks away (as well as the uninteractive FTKs and Floodgates) as the power gap between Tier 2 and everything else feels way smaller than the power gap between the Tier 1 and everything else below it which is almost assuredly intentional on Konami's part. Stuff like the new Melodius support, Lightsworn, or the Millennium Ankh deck are neat and otherwise decent. This isn't exclusive to 2024 either; this has been a long running trend where there's a pushed deck that warps the whole game around it because Konami refuses to address it while it's making them money (and then they promptly murder it instead of balancing it properly once everyone's sick of seeing it).
i think the meta in magic is worst at the moment, magic has too much creature killing , so much that we cant play the game, we get to a point where i have no cards in hand my oponen has no cards in hand and there is nothing on the field and thats because of the extreme creature removal . another thing is the red deck killing you before you can even play , toxic af
@@TheDuelingBeard There was a particularly bad overcorrection to a previous control meta in the past few sets which has caused Standard to become a largely aggro focused format. Lots of small aggro value pieces that snowball too quickly if you don't have spot removal. Think of it like if in Edison Blackwings didn't have answers like Ryko and power traps and everyone needed to play Raigeki Break and Lightning Vortex instead. The answer in Magic is that every deck that isn't Red aggro is playing Black to play the efficient removal spells to combat them.
@@TheDuelingBeard in magic there are cards that would never exist in yugi . like a monster reborn that is a continuos spell once per turn , or a card that destroys all oponents monsters draws you cards and reborns monsters all of that in one card, there is no limits in magic , ppl running around with 4 dark holes 4 raigekis and 8 fissures , there are no reliable negates in magic you just have to take it in the ass when they wipe out all your cards over and over .in yugi if the meta is not that broken you put some meat in the table and the oponent has to work it out , in magic the meat you put on the table wont last and those games are decided by who is getting more resources to send to the graveyard is all card advantage.
@@isaacn751 magic's problem right now is that every creature is game ending so you have to run a billion removal spells. It's also getting worse as it goes down the same path as yugioh.
@@josephcourtright8071 i wouldn say that creatures are too powerful it is the speed of red / red black that is making ppl run 30 removal spells so they can draw some in the starting hand and stop the agro, if they dont , then red won. but at least in ygo we have ban list , is going to be hard to take this meta for 2 years , in ranked you only feel like you see 2 types of decks , the ones killing you fast or the ones killing everything you put on the table , is honestly boring and brain dead. IMHO magic is in a rly bad spot at this moment and i dont think the next set will fix it. magic needs to slow down , removal has to stop being so relevant and red has to be slower .
Someone that has connections with konami should tell them that they should begin making AR tech Duel Disks instead of making more of the 1 card wombo combos.

floodgates, hand traps, extra deck, engines there all to generic with no restrictions people think pot of greed is bad all these things are just pot of greed in different ways. a hand trap on a lower decks gives you an extra turn. a random floodgate gives you turn, most modern normal summons give like a plus 8. the modern duel terminal stuff is a step in the right direction and floodgates being made that are locked into decks are also good. If you want to have all these cards in the game rules need to change. the meta can't be allowed to hand traps and floodgates. control decks can't be allowed hand traps and you must restrict the number of generic extra deck cards allowed or lock a player to two mechanic unless the strategy warrants more for example if you play fusion and xyz but there is a synchro and a link that searches or uses your decks cards you can play it.
A good idea for a video would be interviewing a Japanese pro. It can be that they like the 1 card combo meta, constant shift... is ot that they dont have mtg? No competition?
That doesn't matter - they've already made their money and you've told the person you bought the singles from that they can continue to buy product and still have a customer.
@WavemasterAshi until they choose not to. I go that store for multiple TCG's. If they stopped Yugioh tomorrow I still have other games. I could stop buying and they still will have product. Main thing is too actively no go to tournaments and buy product. At the end it doesn't matter because doesn't care.
A reason why the Japanese market does so well for konami is because of their gambling business. pachinko machines are what they are mostly knowm for in the gambling space. I left yugioh for magic and enjoy it. I can spend $40 for a cheap commander deck vs yugioh before branded got cheaper I spent $250 for a deck which was crazy. The formats have the same decks with almost the same cards is pretty much unfun to play. Yugioh has to do better
@@Litegami $40 for a commander deck is really cheap. I don't even think new precons are that cheap.
That’s it. You put it great as to what is the problem
WHY WOULD THEY? you'll will still play the game even if the format is broken and still whine and cry
You’re right, I’ve had the same experience too, gold feels like the perfect sweet spot
@josephcourtright8071 all of this would be fixed by a rotation 😅
This is why i play rush on the duel links app. But the one thing Konami should do is start a rotation. It would fix the power creep
Strengthen your deck brah
Yo I thought this was Trif in the thumbnail 😭 bout to say, so this is where he been posting! On a second channel😭😭
😂 if I had a dollar for every time I heard this
Ban all the new archtypes. Bring us bacl to the majesty of pre 2012 archtyped only.
Agreed honestly
I basically only play retro formats and anime duels.
I play duel links a lot, so this semi-forbidden list is godly to me, I like it a lot. I hear by deem this list as the beard format
😂 I like that, beard format could stick
& glad you enjoy it, I think Konami should adopt the semi forbidden list, it would help with hits dramatically
Where if you dont open habdtraps or board breakers
going seconds, you're stuck going against 10 negates, unoutable boss mondters, or an FTK combo.
And if you stop them or break their board, pray that they dont have negates or handtraps. And that they brick/cant follow up next turn. And you OTK them fast because any turn after in the modern landscape is giving rhwm an opportunity to OTK and atart their combo all over again.
It's what happens when the game designers don't have a MTW to build and balance around they just flail in the dark and the decks that rise to the top aren't the fun ones but the ones that are the most efficient at the single axis of play that yugioh runs off these days
i believe even the ocg isn't doing well, saw people tweeting the rest of the tcgs over there are taking over slowly but surely
we're cooked
Im just waiting for time lords, to be GREAT AGAIN!
Guess I need to start practicing with d shifter in mine then.
@@TheMadTurtle The infuriating part for me is that Tenpai is being used as a Shifter deck when it has no need to be a Shifter deck.
@@Legacy_of_Yata-Garasu Snake-Eye gets a buff when Azamina comes out too.
Dam that sound kinda fun to built a zoodiac tri-brigade or fire king tri-brigade in your format lol

This isn't exclusive to 2024 either; this has been a long running trend where there's a pushed deck that warps the whole game around it because Konami refuses to address it while it's making them money (and then they promptly murder it instead of balancing it properly once everyone's sick of seeing it).
is buying cards to play with your friends considered quitting? Cause if yes then ive never played. Well ive played once or twice locals but that it.
That’s how I “quit”
i think the meta in magic is worst at the moment, magic has too much creature killing , so much that we cant play the game, we get to a point where i have no cards in hand my oponen has no cards in hand and there is nothing on the field and thats because of the extreme creature removal . another thing is the red deck killing you before you can even play , toxic af
Sounds like magic is also going through it. Card game companies are just shooting themselves in the foot
Great video brother! Have a great weekend 🤟🏽
Thank you! Likewise 😎
Someone that has connections with konami should tell them that they should begin making AR tech Duel Disks instead of making more of the 1 card wombo combos.

It stop FTK and otk and makes fiendsmith combo
What floodgate is that in the thumbnail?
Powersink stone
Time to migrate to Pokemon lol. I'll take whatever downsides that game has what Yugioh has at this point.
Game will always have a place in my heart but nothing changes with these banlists lol. Just the same old Snake Eyes FS bullshit.
floodgates, hand traps, extra deck, engines there all to generic with no restrictions people think pot of greed is bad all these things are just pot of greed in different ways. a hand trap on a lower decks gives you an extra turn. a random floodgate gives you turn, most modern normal summons give like a plus 8. the modern duel terminal stuff is a step in the right direction and floodgates being made that are locked into decks are also good.
HAHAHA well I am glad to be wrong for the moment.
A good idea for a video would be interviewing a Japanese pro. It can be that they like the 1 card combo meta, constant shift... is ot that they dont have mtg? No competition?
That’s a good idea, maybe when I’m a bit bigger
The game is just way too explosive now. Special summoning mechanic is the main reason. Nerf it too 5 per turn and game is literally solved
The main thing I'm doing is just boycotting buying product. I'll buy singles, if needed.
Edison!
A reason why the Japanese market does so well for konami is because of their gambling business. pachinko machines are what they are mostly knowm for in the gambling space. As far as i know konami gambling machines only exist in Japan so my conclusion as to why the profits in Japan are so kuch higher is because of the gambling business
stop lying, konami profit most of their gaming devision not pachinko, most of their revenue came from their game devision most of them are came from baseball game and as you quessed it ocg, you can see how momotaro dentetsu performance in japan market, quite literally outsell zelda.
That’s fair, that’s could be a big part of it, I do think it also has to do with card game culture being stronger over there than other places

Spyral is no different than half the decks released in the last 3 years. Look at the support for blackwing, raidraptor, the new speedroid support etc etc. it’s all wombo combo balls to the wall support and the decks are mid. Spyral is fine for now because the game is so broken that hitting spyral would be cruel but when we have reduced the power of the game enough, even Spyral will be hit. I think archtype relying is part of the problem with the game. Edison is great because it lacks those things. Few handtraps ,few board wipes , few archtypes, basically 0 towers...
I think the best way yo do this is to cirate from edison upwards rather than backwards so you can identify what actually shifted the game and basically ban that element from the game and you will have a fixed game
Goin backwards will make u pick up all the bad parts of the game and legitimize em because it will hard to go back to playing real ygo if you ban backwards.

As long as handtraps exist this ga.e will suck. Handtraps shouldnt exist just like broken cards they supposed to stop. Jist bann archtype atleadt the one that came out in tbe last couple years. Ban all monster that negate as quick effects or as a response. Ss from deck cards should mostly be banned. The archtype are what make the decks so consistent because there are all built to play with themselves, so they will all have the same things and that speed makes the game suck.
All the idiots who said they hate generic cards are the problem. We need more generic cards and less archtype, this way you dont have to make monsters who search entire archtypes.
