Walkabout in Newbiggin

This is the first of a new series with a brand new format. A combination of me walking and talking with the handheld camera in locations across England and Scotland. These films are much more casual, not heavily researched as with the other channel content. Also no intricate post production, just me and the camera walking, talking, looking and discovering what there is to see. The big advantage...

The Durham Tyne and Wear Coast Episode 2
Thanks Jon. I spent many hours on this beach in my childhood. It brings back lots of happy memories to see it again from the other side of the world in Australia.
Hi Judy, many thanks for your comment. Have you watched episode 3 of the current series on the Durham Tyne and Wear coast? Tynemouth and cKing Edwards bay is featured in that. It also is featured briefly in the very first film I made for this channel called "The Northumberland & North Tyneside Coast". Thanks for watching and I hope you continue to enjoy the channel Content. Best wishes Jon
@jonimrye5722 I have watched, greatly enjoyed all of your videos, thanks Jon. I hope to get back to beautiful Nortumberland again before too long. Until then, I get my fix watching your videos 🥰
Hi Judy my next project is the river tweed which of course borders Northumberland, and then the rest of the rivers Aln Coquet Wansbeck Blyth etc lots to look forward to best wishes Jon x
Thank-you for going to beautiful Tynemouth ❤ Looking forward to episode 5, the Durham cliffs and Discovery Days ❤🇬🇧
Thanks Alison, best wishes Jon
Sorry John, I called you Jim above. I’m looking forward to your future rivers episodes. Cheers! Lynn in Naples FL. 😎
Hello Lyn, Naples is my favourite place along with the Amalfi coast. I would love to live there, I envy you. best wishes Jon
Hello Jim, I really enjoy your reports and your films. Thank you for all your hard work. Lynn in Naples FL 😎
very interesting thank you
Hi John thanks for your comment I hope you can enjoy the rest of the series made two years ago now. I was thinking of revisiting the area next year and going over the same route with my drones to provide an aeriel addition to the series. Would that be something you would watch? Best wishes Jon
I was going to make a video of a couple of castles near me. Having watched your excellent videos I don't think i'll bother. I will just sit back and enjoy all your very informative films. Keep up the great work!
Many thanks Jon, I am truly flattered. Keep watching and enjoying the channel. There will be six castles in the new series coming on the River Tweed look out for that. Best wishes Jon
The ROMANS in 1066 I think you mean the Normans
Hi Mary of course you are right but can you tell me where in the programme I say this?
Sorry I missed heard. I listened twice and thought you said Romans please blame it on my age. Love your videos x
Hi Mary thats ok and thanks for getting back to me. I have made mistakes in the past, so its not uncommon for me to say the wrong thing. However that video has been out now for over a year and I thought it strange that no one had said anything before now. Im often critiscised for speaking too slowly, but thats why I do, because if I speak quickly I often say the wrong thing. Pleased we sorted it anyway, lots of new stuff on the way for you to enjoy. Best wishes Jon.
This film is brilliant! Thank you for putting this together! Incredibly informative.. I recently walked the Hadrian's Wall Trail which misses out so much of the wall coming through Newcastle's Benwell area.. Thank you for filling in a few gaps!! Now subscribed.. All the best Jon !
Glad you enjoyed it Paul you need to watch the new series I have added to this playlist. This year I have flown my drones over the entire Roman Frontier from South Shields to Maryport. I am releasing the HD versions each month, 4 episodes are already up and the last episode will be posted on 26th July. Then at the End of August the whole 110 mile journey - 2 and a half hour film will be released in 4K. There is also lots of other content to enjoy. Welcome aboard the channel, best wishes Jon
Awesome thanks Jon
Thanks Davy, exciting news Im beginning the research for the River Tweed. Watch the bulletins for updates. Jon
Fascinating series of videos of our heritage ,great to watch
Hi Harry how are you? Thanks for the comment as always last episode coming 26th July. Then I will be releasing the whole journey East to West in August. Keep watching and enjoying the channel. Best wishes Jon
Fantastic
Thank you
Hi Jon, was nice to meet you up in Maryport at the Senhouse Museum. Nice channel, some really nice footage, and you take the time learning about it all, a pleasure to meet you. Take care and hope you had a safe journey home.
Hi Gareth, thanks for your comments. Nice to meet you both as well. It took me two and half hours to get home, I was absolutely shattered. Hope you enjoy the rest of the channel. Best wishes Jon
@@jonimrye5722 Good to know you got back alright, I will watch all the other episodes. Thank you!
These videos should be shown in all the schools in England! What a great history lesson and much better than a history book. Also great photography again, Jon.
Thank you Alison for those kind comments, please feel free to put my name forward to anyone interested. Best wishes Jon
Never ceases to amaze me re the quality of the build as it was built so long ago. It must have been a tremendous impressive sight when first completed. Amazing drone footage Jon. L & G
Thanks Gordon, yes its pretty spectacular. They taught the brits a great deal. best wishes Jon
Great drone shots. Amazing to see the old salt pans still visible next to the burn after all this time. Charlie's Garden is actually the rock pillar sticking out of Collywell Bay. As a boy it was as high as the cliffs and had thick turf atop.
Thanks again mate 🙂
Smashing video Jon. I didn't know the Cresswell family connection with capturing the first enigma machine. Can't believe a company was allowed to mine sand at Druridge Bay.
Thanks again for your comment. Yes the sand removal devastated the area at the time, thank goodness it was stopped. best wishes Jon
What kind of moron could destroy that tree?
Had family friends who lived in the stone houses near the small harbour. Many happy childhood memories. I wonder if the Wansbeck barrage, which I saw being built, has affected the amount of sand in Sandy Bay?
Hi, thanks for your comment. As for the sand Im not sure to what it was like when you were there? Watch the drone footage and let me know, best wishes Jon
50 year old memories are that it does look much as it did but I don't remember so much rock being exposed. I seem to recall being taught that sand moves south on the East coast, perhaps the sand mining at Druridge Bay affected nearby beaches. Viewing your excellent drone footage I'm now wondering if Sandy Bay caravan park is named for the small bay in the Wansbeck estuary rather than the beach.
@@nilpoints That episode was filmed in January of 2023 and heavy winter seas often remove sand and then it returns during the summer. All part of natures cycle. The rocks at the north end of the bay are due to the ever crumbling cliffs falling onto the beach. Storm Arwin caused much of the cliffs to collapse too. As far as I know there has always been a holiday park at Sandy Bay and the name may have been deliberately chosen to attract visitors rather than being a description of the beach.
Kind regards Jon thanks for sharing kindly Niall O'Connell Dundalk Ireland.❤️🙏🇨🇮
Many thanks Niall, hope you can enjoy the rest of the channel. About 10yrs ago I planned a tour of the Irish coast but sadly the trip never materialised. My health not so good nowadays so I think it will have to wait till my next life. Best wishes and thanks for watching Jon
Beautiful video of an awesome lighthouse. Thank you so much for making this film and for sharing it. I really enjoy your work. Lynn in Naples FL. 💕

How about, “Exploration and Discovery” 😎 Lynn in Naples FL
Hi Lynn and a very good morning to you there in the sunshine. Spare a thought for us Brits here in the perishing cold 10C here today !!! Thank you for your suggestion, it will go into the "bag" with the others, best wishes and keep watching Jon
Would you be able to show us a video on history of Millom Castle?
Hi Janice, Millom is a bit far from my base in Newcastle. I might be able to do it one day as one of my new short "Discovery days out". Ive had many requests to film Cumbria over the years, but on an old age pension it is too far to afford the travelling. I appealed earlier in the year for people to help by donating to the channel to help fund these projects further afield. Only six people responded to that request and while I was very grateful for there contributions not enough people responded to make any difference. That means I am restricted to areas in the North East. However as I said it might be possible to do it sometime in the future. Thanks for watching, best wishes Jon
Not a believer in paranormal.😊
You gave me some great memories of visiting Howick Hall with my cousin and her husband when we were home in 2018. We toured the gardens, had tea and cake in the tearoom (twice 😊) and walked the path along the coastline. ❤🇬🇧
Glad you liked it, let me know if you ever return and I will treat you to a free guided tour, best wishes Jon
Bonjour JON.
Great memories of our tour around the beautiful grounds last year. The wild flowers are beautiful. Thanks Jon L & G
Thank you, best wishes as always Jon
Love the videos except for the music. Is distracting from the narration. +
Hi Judy, yes I agree which is why my the narration is clean on all my current programmes. Please watch my more recent films 2022 onward you will find those have no annoying music. Also a number of the border castles will be revisited in my forthcoming project later this year when I begin the "Rivers Project". It will be a journey down the river Tweed as the first river in the series which incorporates 6 castles. You will notice all my recent programmes are supported with drone footage so this will be a spectacular presentation. Be sure to subscribe so as not to miss anything and please watch my other channel content, best wishes Jon
Excellent drone footage Jon, really enjoyed it.L & G
Thank you glad you liked it
Drone police will be watching hehe
Blyth is not the same as it was .Closed shops and very little to do. They've closed the Keel Row shopping centre and it's being demolished so all of the shops inside are gone.
Yes I know, someone is moving there from the south on the back of watching my programme, I feel guilty! Cant remember what is replacing the Keel Row now, I was told but Ive forgotten. Blyth was run down when I lived there in the 80's but when you are making programmes you have to find whats best about it otherwise people get upset. Hope you are enjoying the current series? Best wishes Jon
Last time is was in beamish I saw her tea pot on display I remember it been black , Iv just renewed my yearly membership so will have another look in the museum, I’m sure it was moved to a safe place after the tv programme,
Thank you for sharing that with us, its good to have a real artifact to bring a character to life, though she was such a monster. Best wishes Jon
Thanks Jo, We are moving to Blyth June 24. Cant wait.
If you want to meet up for a coffee let me know, best wishes Jon
@@jonimrye5722 Will do, all the best.
Awesome footage Jon . If that doesn't want people to get out there to take a look , i dont know . Really enjoyed that 👍
Thanks Nick, Sunday coming looks good weather so hoping to get out to film part 4. Dont forget the whole film East to West will be published later this year in full 4K and that is amazing quality so hope you will get time to watch that as well. Best wishes Jon
Cracking video again Jon loved it thanks for you
Thanks Davy as always
Beautiful footage! Very natural looking colours from the drone camera, although I do notice some slight motion blur on closer shots - not sure if this is down to the frame rate or the drone camera?
Hi, Its neither the jitter is because it is shot in 4K and then compressed to HD for these episode parts. At the end of the journey I will be releasing the whole film in its original aspect of 4K. I can assure you there is no jitter on that it is absolutely stunning. Just have to be patient until its all done. Thanks
very interesting !
Thanks RD
Great work Jon love watching your videos extremely interesting and very informative, keep up the good work.
Thank you, nice to hear you enjoyed it. Just waiting for the next fine day to do the next bit. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Thank you for your continued efforts. And your beautiful photography. Well, worth the wait for the weather to cooperate. We enjoy seeing everything that you produce. My wife is originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, we visit regularly, but still like to get our fill of the country side watching your videos between trips. We now live in central california.
Thanks Roy I am pleased you are enjoying my films. It makes all the hard effort worth it when I know it pleases my audience. Weather good today so off to film the narratives for the last two episodes of the Durham series. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Absolutely fabulous work Jon. Fantastic footage and flying 👍. Lovely video. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Thanks, what did you think to your feature? I have done a different arrangement on the 4K version which will be released later in the year.
@jonimrye5722 Thought it was fantastic Jon. Very nice editing 👌 👍
Great work as always my friend. Your a dedication to us all and to our region.
Thank you for your comments and support, best wishes Jon
Great history of Whitburn, drone footage exceptional
Thanks Harry, Episode 3 of Hadrians wall out this friday, best wishes Jon
Hello, very informative as always 👍
Merci Nathalia
Fascinating story Jon, my only comment why weren’t the insurance company taking more interest. Surely their suspicions should have been aroused at least Gordon.
Whitby seems like quite the metropolis after the earlier towns.
Hi Laura, yes it certainly was during the days of the monastery and still retains its busy community today. Hope you will watch further programmes and enjoy the rest of the Channel content? Best wishes Jon
Recently started tracing ancestry and have gone as far back as john heron of chipchase castle. Really interested in learning more about this region.
Hi there thanks for your comment. Look in my castle series for a brief history on Chipchase, cant remember which episode its in. Either the central castles or the southern castles. Thanks for watching. Jon
great information- and nice presentation
Thanks for your praise, hope you enjoy the rest. I recently posted episode 6 but gave up on this series as it didnt appear popular, glad you enjoyed it though, keep watching, best wishes Jon
Hi Jon, good to hear about the good news about the Good news…..😊 L & G
