I am a Northumbrian Filmmaker producing films on historical and local interest themes across the North East of England and the Border Region of Scotland, as well as promotional films for musicians, singers and performers.
Discovery Days 3 Barcelona, Spain.
This time I booked a day trip from our tour operator. While I didnt get to see all the areas I had researched and planned to see, it was still a good way to discover the capital of Catalonia for the first time. This one is short but packed with interest.

You've just made me homesick ! great photography, thanks for sharing...
Hi Jim, thanks for your comment, sorry it made you sad. Tell me where you are now and why you moved away? Always keen to connect with my viewers. Very best wishes Jon
Thanks Jon, I enjoyed all 3 of these videos in Spain. My grandson was in Cadiz for the summer on a Study Abroad trip from University of Georgia. He really had a glorious experience. He went to Lisbon Gibraltar, Madrid- Portugal, Tangier-Morocco, and Zaragoza. I’ve enjoyed seeing what Spain was like through your eyes. Best Regards, Lynn in Naples FL😎
Many thanks Lynn for your support, always good to hear from you. In contrast the UK is suffering storm "bert" with heavy snow and strong winds. I am supposed to be travelling to Edinburgh today to do "Discovery Day" episode 5, visiting the Christmas lights. Just hoping I get there ok ! My very best wishes Jon
So, where do you get your music from right now? I am starting to do some videos and would like to support the smaller creators of music for videos.
Hi, if you watch the following bulletins I tell the viewers my solution. It wont effect what you do until you go monetised so if you havent reached that yet you can use anything. The snag is once go monetised your revenue will be paid to the owner of the music. Currently I pay an annual subscription of £15 to Scott Buckley (credits are necessary in the video description) The Celtic stuff is from Vindsvept (similar credits are necessary and same price). I also paid a one time fee to "Tunetank" but with their stuff you need to wait until you get a copyright notice from YT then release it, which is straightforward just a bit of a faff. Hope this helps. Best wishes Jon
Absolutely gorgeous place where I grew up! My parents left with the family for the American dream. They must have been mad! Now that the gardening season is over, I will be settling down to watch the rest of your videos. Fantastic filming. Thank-you so much ❤🇬🇧
Many thanks for your comments. There is plenty to catch up on. At the conclusion of each series I usually compile all the flight footage and post as a finale. This only applies to Hadrians Wall, the Northumberland Coast and the Durham coast because I only started to introduce Drone footage to my programmes in the last two years. I am thinking of adding a flight film to the series I did two years ago on the North Yorkshire coast, because that is a stunning coastline too. Starting in the new year is a brand new series beginning a huge project to film all 8 of the rivers in North East England that have their estuaries in the North Sea. The project begins with the River Tweed and begins the 3rd of January. That is absolutely amazing and in my opinion the best work I have produced so far. My very best wishes Jon
@jonimrye5722 I have seen some of the Hadrian's Wall footage and it is fantastic, including the history. Drone footage is a great thing. What it must be like to live your life as a bird 😊
Hi Alyson, yes a birds eye view is amazing. Im sure I was a pilot in a former life ! Often when Im flying the drones I get dejavu moments? Weird but true.
What a lovely video wonderful. Brings back memories when I lived in cullercoats. The beautiful beaches ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you please check out the other content on the channel there is a lot to explore. Best wishes Jon
Beautiful video Jon. I enjoyed it all very much. It is amazing to see the erosion and the power of the ocean. Thanks for sharing. Lynn in Naples FL 😎
Thank you Lynn, thats the end of that series. A couple of small programmes between now and xmas. New series begins on 3rd January. Best wishes Jon
Brilliant Jon. Looking forward to the rivers project.L & G
coming soon - intro 3rd January and episode 1 on 17th January
Bonjour Jon Jolie promenade. Merci 👍👍👍
Jon x
OK JON . MERCI 👍
Merci beaucoup , j’adore 😊
I am very interested in Spanish history too , I will go see your videos 🙏
Thanks Caroline Ive missed you lately. There is one more spanish film which will be released on the 22nd and then it will be back to the projects in the UK. Best wishes Jon

@ A lot of people have a closed minds when it comes to other cultures. I’m glad I’m open minded to new and interesting things. It’s a nicer way to live. Cheers!
You do a smashing job home or away, i reckon keeping local will be the easiest for you and liked by most viewers 👍 your research and knowledge of local history is brill ! Keep them coming .
Many thanks Stuart. Keep watching
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Northumberland and the north east in general is one of my favourite places. I am Scottish but have family in Northumberland and Newcastle and visit often. Thank you.
Hi Kathryn, thank you for your comments and I am guessing you are new to the channel? If so a very warm welcome ! Starting on 3rd January is a brand new series following the river Tweed from its source to the sea, you might enjoy that. I usually release the main programmes monthly with shorter less involved programmes in between. Lots and lots on the channel for you to enjoy, please use the "Playlists" to see all the various series. I look forward to hearing from you again my very best wishes Jon
Hi Jon , Loved this , Newbiggin By The Sea has a very special place in my heart . Had I not me the love of my life I would still be living there.
Glad you enjoyed it, you might also like episode 4 of the New Coast of Northumberland series that was on Newbiggin. Also if you look in the Biography playlist you might like "A Personal True story" which is about how I came to be in Newbiggin. Best wishes Jon
Ive seen that one too ,very interesting . Will look out for Northumberland one when I get a minute. Regards Joan
A brilliant showcasing of the area and a pleasure to watch as usual
Thanks Harry, this friday is part two of my summer holiday in Tarragona and then Friday 8th Nov is the last in the Durham series with the Flight down the whole coastline set to music. I am busy editing episode 1 of the new series on the River Tweed starting in January. best wishes Jon
I really enjoyed this walkabout in your home town. Love the “local’s history” you share about playing as a child. The coal dust on the beach was quite beautiful as well. As for suggestions I don’t really have much since you seem to prefer “on location narrative” compared to voice-overs but I did think of you taking the train and filming out from a window seat. Maybe that could catch two flies in one swap if you’re going somewhere to film? It does seem strange that RUclips would measure five minute videos with 1h+ videos and expect the same engagement.. but then again I’m no social media CEO 😅😂 Anyway, thanks again. I enjoyed this film and definitely want to visit one day
Thank you for your nice words. That initial walkabout have become the NEW "Discovery Days" series. I did three on holiday in spain visiting some Roman architecture, episode 4 filmed in the borders of Scotland is due for release on 13th Dec. I will be visiting places via train in the new year and of course the River Tweed series begins 3rd January, keep watching best wishes Jon
Brilliant info love the brave pilots story and the zeplin ,did the wreckage still remain under the ocean ?
Hi Stuart thanks for the comments. By the time the zepplin plummited to the sea it would have burned to ash so there would be very little left of it. They were filled with hydrogen so once they were set on fire they burned furiously or exploded. The pilot using the machine gun on board his plane would have created sparks as the bullets pierced the skin of the zepplin. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Thank you for all the work you've put into this wonderful series Jon. I think you're making a great contribution to documenting our history. I feel more connected to my roots because of it. I hope you enjoyed making it as much as I have enjoyed watching it.
I have mate and thank you for the support. I am especially enjoying filming the new rivers project. Ive been back and forth to the borders for the past two months filming. It will start in January and continue all next year, ita a mega series and by far the biggest thing Ive tackled. Im sure you will love it. Its all filmed in 4K with the new cameras and drones and I have to say it looks amazing so far. Still some programmes to come before then tho. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Really enjoyed this version. We lived in Spittal for 20 years. Happy days !! We are really enjoying your RUclips programmes. Thank you.
Hi Margaret thank you for your comments. At present I am filming the river Tweed from source to sea so will be back in spittal sometime next year. First episode goes out in January. Hope you will continue watching best wishes Jon
Thanks for making this Jon, absolutely fascinating. Loved it so much, did not know the history of my own home town and it was very revealing especially the devastating effects of losing the railways and the mines. Great that we are getting some of that railway back very soon! I, like most of Blyth's residents, love our town and want it to survive and prosper. I think all the new houses being built is a great thing and will help keep Blyth alive and well. I moved away in the early 80s for 20 years and only came back in the early 2000's to raise my family, but have lived here since then and have come to appreciate how wonderful Blyth and her surroundings are. We now have everything anyone could want as well as stunning coastlines and countryside on our doorstep.
Thanks for the comments and sharing that with us on the channel. I hope you will continue watching the rest of the channel content when you can. I am busy now with the rivers project in which I will produce a series on each of the north east's rivers. At present it is the tweed but in the future I will be filming the River Blyth from its source to the sea. Keep watching and best wishes Jon
Great video again 🌊
Thanks Vi, you are the first to respond. Theres an encore to the series which is the drone flight over the coast with some new footage and that is released 8th Nov. At present busy filming the new long anticipated River Tweed series which starts early January. Keep watching my very best wishes Jon

Hi Harry been filming up there for a month now so Im pretty sure I have enough for the first two episodes. The short intro to the series goes out on January 3rd and episode 1 will probably follow 2 weeks later around the middle of January. Lots of "Discovery days" films coming before that though. Discovery Day 4, which is released on the 13th Dec, is my journey along the tweed as I was planning the route. So you might like to see that. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Sounds really exciting! Wishing you nice weather for the whole thing 👍
Been up there again today to do a bit more while the weather is good. The whole project I expect will take a year at least and probably longer. Keep watching and best wishes Jon

I can`t wait to move back down to the headland where i was born and bred a true cod head and monkey hanger.
Hi Billy glad you enjoyed it. Im more of a haddock man myself - not keen on cod. I deliberately left out the monkey story. My programmes always focus on highlighting the area and looking at what is best about it. Last episode coming in a couple of weeks on Seaton Carew. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Excellent presentation Jon, very enjoyable.

I'm 5th generation Canadian with Scottish roots. My 2nd great grandfather was born in Kelso and came to Lower Canada as a British soldier to fight the war of 1812. In 2012, I went to Scotland and visited most of the places in the Borders that your tour visited. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and watching your video brought back many memories.
Im so glad you enjoyed it and hope you are subscribed to the channel? If you continue to watch I am about to start a new series on the Rivers of North East England and I am starting with the River Tweed. I intend to follow the course of the River high in the Scottish Uplands all the way through the Borders to Berwick where it enters the North sea. Im sure you will get great enjoyment following the series as it unfolds. It is due to start in January. Keep watching best wishes Jon
Will watch over the weekend. Not too much attention paid to Hartlepool these days so important to highlight the town.
Hope you enjoy it Jamie best wishes Jon
