  • This is the first of a new series with a brand new format. A combination of me walking and talking with the handheld camera in locations across England and Scotland.
These films are much more casual, not heavily researched as with the other channel content. Also no intricate post production, just me and the camera walking, talking, looking and discovering what there is to see.
The big advantage is they are quicker and easier to produce and I can get to places further afield to provide new subjects.
You are welcome to suggest places you would like me to visit.

Hi Jon like you, I hail from "gods little acre" enjoying your walk from the "Needles Eye" and yes that's going to be the name of the new cafe you see being built where the third shelter used to be. Passing the site of Newbiggin West Junior School to where the Middle shelter used to be and yes the Donkey / Angel / Fairy rock as I have heard it often called was a "canny" bit nearer the prom than it is currently. And you're right about the beach being a lot flatter and shallower with a lovely fine sand, unlike the current grit from Lincolnshire. I remember when they erected the breakwater at the "Fisher end" with concrete blocks that invariably were knocked over by the tides. I can't remember the band stand just below the school though all I can remember was a paddling pool, but I am three years your Junior 😂

Hi Kevin many thanks for that, did you watch episode 4 of the Northumberland Coast vid I did last year? Also my family biography I did two years ago? Both have a lot more depth and history. I think it was the 70's when the paddling pool (or should I say "sand pit") replaced the band stand. I was about 5 or 6 when colliery brass bands played there, towards the end of its life only the salvation army played there on a sunday. Many memories long gone now, which is why I make these films to keep those memories alive. Keep watching best wishes Jon

Hi Jon , nice video. We regularly walk from North Seaton to Newbiggin with the dog and catch a coffee. You're right about the weather , it's been rubbish lately.
How about doin a walkabout in Morpeth , specially up the river ?

Talking of tourists coming to see statues looking out to see, Antony Gormley's 'Another Place' is 100 cast iron statues of Gormley naked looking out to see on Crosby Beach, Merseyside. Must check out Newbiggin next time I am in the north east. Interesting.

Yes, Antony Gormley did the Angel of the North also modelled on his own body, I actually met him many years ago when he was in the north east. Anyway please put your vivid imagination to suggesting ideas for the title of the series, or do you thing "Walkabout in............." is ok?

To keep the algorithm ticking over, and with all that fun in the sun on holiday Jon, will we see any Spanish shorts, films and not the M&S checkered variety? Solid Golden sands perhaps?

😆😆😆 Great comment had a good chuckle reading that this morning. Answer is yes I hope so. My missus is a sun worshiper so will spend the fortnight on the beach sipping sangria. I intend to nip off and do something with the new camera. I had intended to take the little drone but have been strongly advised not to as the spanish authorities have a zero tolerence of drones. We are going to La Pineda which is close to Tarragona which is a historical city and we are not too far from Barcelona, about a 1hr bus ride. Looking forward to it, best wishes Jon

Looking forward to the next instalment of 'Walkabout.' Have you thought about putting your name up front and centre and calling it something like Jon Imrye's Walkabout...?' If you don't blow your own trumpet likely that no-one else will. You put a lot of effort , time and research into your films why not?

Hi there, you are not the only one to suggest that, I just dont like "blowing my own trumpet" I feel that would sound a bit cheesy? Also a couple of decades ago another geordie from ITV did his own series on TV called "John Grundy's history of....." so I feel that people might think I am copying his format, though the content was quite different to my films. Thanks for the praise and I will keep it mind if more people suggest it that might encourage me. Best wishes Jon
