Silent Arrow - the C-130 of Drones
In this episode, Mike interviews Chip Yates, founder of Yates Electrospace Corporation.
With a background in racing, Chip has made a name for himself by setting numerous world records as a pioneer in electric-powered motorcycles and airplanes. His journey took a strategic turn when he encountered a complex military challenge, leading to the inception of his company.
Chip pivoted to defense, launching Silent Arrow-disposable cargo drones deployed from planes like the C-130. These drones must fly dozens-even hundreds-of miles yet be cost-effective enough to be discarded after just a single use.
Chip shares his decade-long journey in defense tech, offering insights into affordable, executable ...

Loaded these at Ubon in 71 - 72. Laser pod was made by Philco-Ford. Loaded lots of all 3 sizes. Did not install ejector cartridges in the rack with laser pod. One aircraft rejected a take off and caught the departure barrier with 2 3000 lb and 2 AIM 7. A fire ensued, the bombs went off low order, throwing the casings 100 yards away. AIM 7s cooked off blowing the tail off. Loaded the tv guided bombs once very early during my tour

Here's an idea.... develop, refit, test all in one spot with one crew...

in the year 2050 the Pentagon announce : B-52 will retro fit with new warp engine and join USS Enterprise mission to mars In a groundbreaking announcement, the Pentagon has revealed plans to retrofit the B-52 bomber with a new warp engine, paving the way for its integration into the USS Enterprise's mission to Mars. This marks a significant milestone in the advancement of interstellar travel technology. Key Points: B-52 Modernization: The B-52, a stalwart of the US Air Force for decades, is set to receive a major upgrade with the installation of a warp drive engine. This technology, previously confined to science fiction, is now a reality, promising to revolutionize space travel. USS Enterprise Mission: The B-52's integration into the USS Enterprise mission signifies a significant step towards humanity's exploration of Mars. The warp drive engine will drastically reduce the travel time to the Red Planet, opening up new possibilities for scientific research and potential colonization efforts. Technological Breakthrough: The development and successful implementation of the warp drive engine represent a monumental leap in propulsion technology. This breakthrough holds immense potential for future space exploration endeavors, enabling faster and more efficient interstellar travel. Looking Ahead: The Pentagon's announcement marks a new era in space exploration. With the B-52's warp drive capabilities, the possibilities for interstellar travel seem limitless. We eagerly anticipate further developments in this exciting field and the potential for future missions to explore the cosmos.

Now, about modernizing the buff, the B52H, B52J, or the B52K, wherever it settles name wise, with those new, more fuel-efficient F130 engines, the mission planners will schedule longer missions for the crew. That means more crew members for pilot and navigator relief, I don’t know about EWO relief, if there is still that position. My point is, that damn stinky honey bucket may be used on longer missions. More... The one time, ONE TIME, it was used on a longer two-ship mission I was assigned with a KC135 background, wing operations officer on board that was our mission commander, it was used. When he asked how to get to the restroom, I knew we were in trouble. Let me tell you, on the way back, three hours of pressurized, on oxygen stink, well the memory stays with you. So unless the ‘H’ model B52 already has a separate restroom, is adding a restroom part of the modernizing effort?

No cross over during 'old school' flying of the buff? Really? I piloted the B52G in the 70s over Vietnam from Guam. 6 to, 30 in, 6 back, no air refueling with an occasional low approach over a carrier for an instrument approach credits. Then after the liberals in congress kicked us out of Vietnam after we won, back to the states to go on SAC alert. Training missions, high level and low level with 'tone' targets. During the high-level navigation training for the nav team, I, the copilot, the EWO, and gunner occasionally shot the moon and stars for them with the periscopic sextant next to the never used honey bucket. Isn't that some cross over???
