Добавлен 26 окт 2018
A Diver's Life is about two people that left the corporate world to follow their dreams and moved to the island of Bonaire to live a diver's life. The channel is dedicated to helping others to achieve a similar dream to move to and live on an island (retired or not) and live a life diving. We will share with our travels, diver conservation efforts, how to move to an island, how to become a resident, and how we and others made the decision to move to an island. It is not for everyone but it might be for you.
Night Creatures Bonaire ep. 47
Come with us to visit night creatures in Bonaire's underwater world. In this episode we discover a myriad of creatures. Some, like an enormous arrow crab and a box crab are comical to watch in action. To see some we must go up in the water column in deeper black water at night. Some of these include a larval mantis shrimp, a baby octopus no larger than a thumbnail, while some are much larger like the Red-spotted siphophore. We also encounter a very curious male frogfish, spectacularly colored male and female razorfish, and much more. You will also discover that despite the bleaching and SCTLD there are still beautiful coral on Bonaire. Expect a spectacular experience and to see creatures ...

Hey Rich, what lights do you use? Great vid too. Cheers
@@peterlamshed3688 we use Big Blue 15k lights. I like them as they have 160 degrees of cover each and they are more cost effective than other lights. They also have fiber remote control buttons. I think for video that you should have lights that go that high, especially if you are shooting something big. Often I don’t have them up that high.
@@peterlamshed3688 thank you
Love it all, but the Long-arm Octopus was the winner for me!
@@Juscz super! That octopus was fun to film. It definitely had some personality.

Hi Rich We have only recently found your videos. They are AMAZING! We live in the southwest of Cornwall in the UK but travel to dive in Bonaire every year. Our next trip will be our 20th visit. We have dived around the world but keep coming back to Bonaire! We love it that you dive at such a good slow pace which we think is the best way of observing everything....large and small. John takes all of our video footage and is really interested to see that you use video lights to great effect. How many lumens are they? Do you use a long focus lens or a macro for most of the time? We were in Bonaire in May this year but have been in every month over the years. Can't wait for our next trip! Jill and John Reply
Hi Jill, I shoot with 15000 and 18000 lumen lights which have 160 degrees of coverage. I shoot wide angle and macro. I have a 90 mm macro and a 40 mm macro I use for blackwater conditions where the subjects are moving constantly. Thank you so much for asking and watching our channel and your wonderful comments!

The most beautiful water...the most relaxing vacation I ever had. Love Bonaire, its beauty, and its people. 💞
We agree!
How did you set specific and automatic resolution and brightness ? Pls let me know 🙏🏻
Automatic? I shoot only in manual mode for iso and aperture. I use the ninja display with my Sony and shoot for lights top end at 80%. I adjust lighting to help meet that and the tolerance level of marine life . Decisions to make: - set iso and aperture features based on the available light and direction of the sun - some Marine life hate video lights - like spotted eagle rays - I use auto underwater iso as the Sony’s custom white balance sucks - light location is set to the side and pointing in for macro. Their safe spot is in front of the lens. This is not a simple answer. I don’t just point and shoot
@@ADiversLife No no, I mean... when I was scrolling the shorts, suddenly (when I arrive to yours) the brightness of my phone increased by itself automatically and resolution was so better too. I tried on my laptop to be sure ane it happened there as well. The ohter shorts has the same brightness of my screen (the one I choose) but when I scroll to yours, it got brighter my phone automatically (it increase the brightness by itself).
@@s.t.a.r.d.u.s.t.8so all our videos are recorded in High Dynamic Range. HDR standards first came out in 2020 to support the newer television standards. The old standard from 1990 is Rec. 709. This means 2 things - going from 8 bit color to 10 bit color and going to higher brightness levels. I used to be a CTO for IBM an realized 2 years ago that all phones were going down the HDR route and would advance faster than TVs which already were moving to HDR (like UHD TVs. ) So, when we upload our HDR recorded video to RUclips they create a rec.709 version from it and now you have both an HDR version and a rec.709 version. When your RUclips rendering app requests one of our videos, RUclips looks at the available bandwidth and whether your device supports HDR. If it does support HDR and has enough bandwidth to take it your app will receive the HDR version. An HDR device RUclips app will bump up the brightness and use the 10 bit color - a far better video experience automatically. So, in short you will automatically get a brighter and more vivid video. When I create our videos I maximize the videos dynamic range to give you that better experience in post production. All our videos are recorded in 4k but delivered in 1080p HDR format to ensure devices can get the best quality in lower bandwidth situations. When you see one of our RUclips short videos the detail closer to 4k, 90% but clipped to narrower format. They are super sharp. I hope this better explains things - sorry if it is a bit long winded. Thank you for asking.
@@ADiversLife Thanks a lot! I understand now. I loved your content btw.

Your macro photography in this video was exceptional Rich! Is any of this accessible snorkeling? So many great moments, but the spotted cleaner fish and the juvenile trunkfish were my favorite. Well, and the frog fish which I never would have seen on my own.
Thank you. Yes. Most of this is extremely shallow. The jawfish and seahorse , for example, were in less than 10-15 feet of water. I recommend bringing a light and going in between 4 and 4:30.
Those can slice the ait lines

Hi Rich, just a couple more questions? Do you overexpose the HLG3 and do you use gamma display assist? Also do you change settings of Black level, Detail level, Colour phase etc? I'm just moving into my A7Siii and have found this video incredibly helpful; thanks again.
I do not over expose. You do if you are using the pure log. That said you can over expose a little. I shoot for 80 percent of my Ninja scope. I don’t change my black level, detail level, or color phase either. The detail level is supposed to help you render more dynamic range. I think it distorts the picture. Maximize your dynamic range in post production. Spend your time getting good on post production in your video editor. I use Premier Pro.
Beautiful shots. Are you still using Auto underwater white balance? Your tech video on A7Sii Underwater has been super helpful, thanks!
Yes! I then fine correct it in post. Glad you found the video useful.
@@ADiversLife And still HGL3?
@@peterlamshed3688 yes!
@@ADiversLife Thanks you very much!
@@peterlamshed3688 You are most welcome.
Made in portrait or cropped in post?
Great question Joseph! It was supposed to be a RUclips short video but after upload it went 1/10th of a second over, from the video I created (a RUclips thing) so it made it a regular video with those dimensions. The video was recorded in 4K and episodes are shipped in HD format to support bandwidths for all users. When making a short the image is 90% of the original 4k video but cropped to the dimension you see to match RUclips short dimension reqirements. Consequently, although not as wide as the original video it is actually sharper than the episode version as the height is 90% of the 4k recorded version and then cropped on the left and right side but adjusted for centering. I hope I answered your question. The video uploaded is also High Dynamic Range 10 bit color. We hope you enjoyed it.
A very beautiful diverse life, with incredibly beautiful images 👉🙏🤙
