  • This video was selected for screening at the 2023 San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition along with other renowned underwater cinematographers such as Howard Hall. It was an honor to be selected and receive feedback from these experienced professionals.
This short video highlights the amazing colors and marine life behavior divers can witness at night in Bonaire. It starts out at Bonaire's famous Cargill Salt Pier. You will witness how a large sea horse behaves as it moves to avoid our lights including how it swims. You will witness the mating ritual of Butter Hamlets. We share how we approach marine life to capture them on film and to do so in a way that does not damage their eyes. You will discover the amazing colors revealed underwater at night under the right lighting. Our hope is this film will encourage divers to go out at night and experience these wonders and do so in a way that preserves the ocean environment.

Wow this is some spectacular film. I haven’t seen any of your recent film lately and this film in particular is popping with color and life. The butter hamlet footage was amazing as was the rest of it. I liked the information about the butter hamlet spawning, awesome. I love your content and I look forward to more of your work, thanks Rich. I’m curious if you have any footage of the ostracods from there in Bonaire? We witnessed it while we were there a couple years ago, so cool. I’m not sure if it’s even possible or worth the effort. Anyhow thanks again and happy diving.

Thank you Jimmy! I am still working on trying to film them. I actually got part of one to show up . I am switching lenses. They are really hard to film. You need a very high iso setting. My camera may pull it off yet!
