Nice guys thanks.
Planning on doing Fultons and Donnellys to O'tooles Flat with Off Road camper trailer. No steep work. I know Donnellys is ok but how about Fultons from Walhalla road
Gday mate. Fultons is still pretty steep I wouldn’t tow it in the wet but in the dry with a capable tow vehicle you will be right. Still some sections depending on how much of the track you do you may need to winch so wouldn’t attempt it without one for just in case Be a fun drive though let us know how you go
That was awesome my Brother. Well done!!!
Cheers mate, bit of fun with the bikes
would have been a good comparo with the stock BT50 and modded Dmax , good to hear the Patrol is getting a new heart
The modded dmax would eat it for breakfast just in better tyres and suspension alone That dmax was with us on our cape trip and went really well
Thanks guys was an amazing trip
Always a guaranteed fun weekend away with the sonder team 🙌

Another cracker episode, great to see the boys back together 👌👌
I really enjoy hearing about your specific experiences and tips. Great info. Generalised info ends up being a bit useless. I'd rather have real people then I can relate it to my own family of 5. If you are fortunate enough to get some sponsorship just be upfront, good on you both !
Thanks for watching. There is a few things we have added and taken away from the van since filming this video but think we have it pretty dialled in now. Not a cheap venture but it’s made some amazing memories. Be nice to have some sponsorship for the van setup that’s for sure could have saved some money. Got a discount on navigator gear afterwards on a few things we have purchased since making this but the gear has been amazing Hope it has helped you in some things you have been looking for

@@Fresh-uc9vb zthey make a good product so you will be happy with them. Definitely start to prioritise comfort as you get older
Thanks for the video. I have a combi the same size but an older one. I bought it because I had seen 1 fridge in particular go through dust storms, hail and rain fully exposed and not miss a beat in 6 years. The National Luna was a close second. I'm glad I made the choice I did. My only gripe is the chain with the cover on, it canget stuck under the seal.
Cheers for the comment mate. The Engel is definitely not going to let you down. I know the exact issue with the chain you’re talking about had the same problem. Small things hey The Luna was a great fridge too I’ve since moved it on and have now got the bushman upright. It’s awesome to use but just not quite as economical.
Which did you pick?
These days use the arb or darche as a single swag and the rainger and crashpad if we need a double. Also have roof top Tents so the swags don’t get used as much
I had one and it was hard at first but you can get used to it, sort of, but at a camp stretcher and zip it up and you will sleep well enough.
The more basic swag on a stretcher would be a good setup obviously still not as plush or roomy as the others but definitely still a space saver
Easy get a small Caravan Like a Austar RXT amazing little TOYHauler I have one .
I don’t think we could go down size while we have the 3 kids if anything we would go a touch bigger to 21’6
It's a no brainer really, stay with what you know, it works for you so why start again with something your not sure of. Most new cars have too much computer crap and very expensive to repair. I am also looking for a Y62 atm, not for heavy towing but for the quick trips away with a patriot in tow, I have a 1 owner RX GQ 1994 she is a beauty, very clean and tight with all the right mods I use for my style of off-roading. She will outlive me, goes anywhere with ease and at an average of 12 L/100 I am laughing and a range of 1200kms. Impressive little beast the Y62, that engine is such a nice thing. STICK WITH IT GUYS.
Yeah absolutely. If I had have lost it I would have given the 200 a go but seems silly to spend any money when I have a car that does everything I need
OMG, am so over listening to diesel utes on struggle street.
Petrol for the win hey
1st job any 4wd is raise breathers
Actually have never had an issue with stock breathers and I’m still convinced it didn’t come in from them either. The trans there is no dip stick and where it was it’s just a plug which is a known spot to suck water in. And the transfer it was weepy on a seal so I think it’s gone in via that
Surprised youve got water damage covered by insurance. Watch me not have the same luck when ever I get into this situation 👌
It’s classed as an accident water ingress pretty sure it works. Hopefully you don’t get into the situation mate 😂
Keep the 62. Went through all the same questions but I was selling it not insurance. Unless I was going into the big American trucks, F250 or 2500 Ram there is no real upgrade. Only question at to moment may be the Y63 but I guess we will wait and see.
Yeah that’s the exact same conclusion we came to. If it had have been written off would have tried a 200 but now waiting for the y63 to see how it goes
So, how did the water get in? Simply though a loose filler bolt? Through rubber shaft seals, through gearbox case gaskets etc?
I think through what is where the dip stick would be as these don’t have one just a plug where it would be and that’s a common spot from what I’ve now heard and the transfer had a weepy seal so I think from there with that
Rather convoluted process but great the insurance company is legit. Coming from a Nissan/ Patrol fan this leaves me pleased. Thanks for the update and transparency. All's well that ends well!🤷
Yeah took a while and still a wait to come but at least we have answers. The insurance company have been good to deal with just dotting their I’s taking a bit of time
You guys must be part of the hunting club. Would love to ride there.
Yeah one of the boys is a part of it. We are back up there next weekend on the bikes again. Always a great time
Have you had a look at the recently released Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster ute, or the cab chassis variant? You dont have to do _anything_ bar towing electrics to tow 3.5T. There is a GVM/GCM upgrade if you like for peace of mind, but its not strictly necessary. A custom canopy on the cab-chassis variant would look wicked. The Grenadier platform is extremely capable 4wd, and you can add a lift-kit and slider barwork for extra height for rock hopping. Just something else to consider.
Have actually had a few people suggest these never looked to much into them but might have to do some research. They have a unique look but seem pretty capable
Left when I saw all the advertisements
No drama cheers for looking anyways but just like to show a bit of support for brands that help us
Hopefully they get the 62 fixed soon, had the same experience when going to look at silverado and they didn't bother even come out so went to ram and they was on the ball straight away but the thing is they are not 4wds, the y62 is the best alrounder, I sold mine as i want more power and tec and tryed the caravan life and wasnt a fan so sold it for a next gen raptor but miss the y62 offroad capability.
Yeah the guys at ram were fantastic to deal with but there is to many weak points and no option for a front locker on the 1500 that would make the wheeling a bit more tricky. The raptors are epic id probably go one of them also cause out of the box they have so much to love if it wasn’t for them being unable to tow. It’s definitely not something you want to rush into without research if you have certain needs
Did you also rule out the 70 series because it did not have the comforts?
Yeah basically the comfort of one was a big factor and the money you need to spend to make them a capable vehicle as out of the box they ain’t much chop
It’s not perfect but the Y62 is so versatile. It’s too bad you guys don’t get the Nissan Titan XD there. It’s more robust than a 1500 but not a 2500. Same engine as the Y62.
Yeah it’s a very good all rounder. Wonder if there is any import ones floating around over here
Smart move keeping the patrol it’s gonna be basically a new vehicle I say hanging on to it for many more years
Yeah it’s kinda the move that makes sense for our circumstances. And like you say the whole running gear side is brand new 👌
Thx for posting and sharing info. I’ve just received my AAMI policy renewal; good to hear they will cover you as you hear so many stories of claims being denied on vehicles being used as 4x4’s. I assume you had declared all the vehicles mods and AAMI acknowledged the vehicle was on a gazzetted track (the OTT) when the damage occurred . Apart from the vehicles size issues, there is a bit starting to popp up on YT recently about LC300 engine failures in vehicles under heavy use. Based on what you explained were your alternatives it seems getting the Y62 back is a good outcome for your circumstances. Cheers
Hey mate yeah besides the long wait time initially to get a result they have been great to deal with. I’m tipping I’ll see a bit of a rise in the premium next year now though 🥴 And yep with looking at what’s other alternatives are out there besides the 200 it’s really the patrol next choice for our circumstances and needs. Looking forward to getting it back and getting back out there
@@4x4brothers Would an Everest work??
@@bazza2540haven’t heard great things about the ford v6 engine, know of a few that have gone bang
Good to hear you're getting it back. Is a hard predicament to be in that's for sure. I've often hypothesised replacing our Patrol, and it really is slim pickings for something equally as capable and still in a petrol offering. Otherwise going back to diesel for a significant step up in cost and having to put up with modern emission systems I'd have a proper menty-b. Be keen for a breather extension install video when she's back in your hands, and an update on the rear air system. 🤙
Cheers mate, yeah I’m looking forward to getting it back it’s been a great car and now with basically all the running gear brand new it should sever us well for a long time to come. It’s such a hard choice when it comes to having to decide on a new car especially when you need it to do a wide range of things well. The patrol definitely does it, not everything perfectly but it’s a great all rounder. I’ve spoke with the guys at aaa and when I get it back I’ll head down there so we can get to the bottom of the issues I had with it when we left home for the cape so will see how we go there 👌
What was the problem you were having with the trans? How was it behaving? I saw you up there and my Patrol went through all the same crossings. I do have breather extensions though.
Trans was surging and transfer was shuddering front end. I don’t think it actually came in through the breathers though to be honest they are in a pretty good spot for them they say the seal on the fill plugs is fairly common on the trans and my transfer I reckon came in through a seal
Ssangyong musso
Haha how could I not think of that and let it fall through the cracks
@4x4brothers can i feel a little bit cynicism in this reply🤨
@@23860 maybe just a little just because it’s not really a car you see doing the intended use we need a car for. I’m happy to be proven wrong I might have to do some digging see how they handle it
Remember a Remap will void your warranty
Absolutely mate they are all things definitely need to be taken on board and accept responsibility for if something goes wrong
Its a great relaxation looking for a new car, even if own car is running good. I undertand what you are going through. Sorry about this. End of the day, its hard to replace Y62 Patrol if you are used to it. I doubt even if Y63 will replace it, even though it has more power and better fuel economy. We have to rely on octane booter to use the 91RON dirty petrol from outback on the turbo engine with high pressure and temperature.
Yeah definitely opens your eyes up to how other cars drive and feel but your right I know exactly how the y62 is going to react in situations and it’s always got me back home. Would be hard too to go away from that v8 sound and be interested to see economy on the 63 towing
Keep the 62 dont buy a cruiser
Yeah that’s the plan. It’s a great all rounder it just needs better fuel range but I’d be to heavy with a long range tank
@4x4brothers 1000% i bought a warrior has the 140ltr tank factory with full draw system fridge drop slide roof rack and motop with 295s im getting comftable 900 to 1000k. On the open road or 750 800 around town i dont go under 1/4 of a tank. Love watching the videos cause none other really do the touring and harder tracks with 62s so been loving the channel and will have to do a trip with yas about to buy a 18ft van and doing the cape in september 25 would john to have a chat and beer sometime
@@johnmulder9457ah thanks mate appreciate that. The y62 really is a good all rounder. It could tow a bit better but all in all it’s pretty good. Yeah hit us up and if we can line a trip jump on. You’re gonna love the cape. And if your around Feb come along to our group camp at Montana on the Macalister
Surprised that insurance is even paying it out tbh doing water crossings etc with stock breathers...V6 diesel ranger would probably be the choice of dual cabs for your use I recon
I guess they looked at all the incident report and was all ok for the claim to go ahead. They did for a while give us the impression it was going to be written off. I’ve heard a lot of issues with the engine in the v6 ranger and when we were on our trip they were the highest count of bent chassis we saw
My thoughts exactly
Insurance companies have thought of more ways to get out of a payout, then you’ve had hot dinners
@@4x4brothers the V6 diesel in the Ranger had its origins in the Landrover Discovery and Range Rover Sport, which gives a good indication as to its ultimate reliability?…(lol). It’s got good performance numbers but As you correctly said in the video, all the dual cab alternatives regardless of engine have their limitations. So it’s not surprising you saw a number of new Rangers with chassis issues as people tend to equate engine performance with capability (towing and loading)
@@4x4brothers If you seen the people I;ve seen on the trails, they would bend a unimog chassis: overloading with no care to weights, then racing up the trails like it's calder raceway
Thoughts? Basically I wonder how long before insurance companies start to knock back insuring vehicles that get used in this manner or the premiums become stupidly expensive like we're seeing with houses atm. The dual cab was written off as well I'm guessing and now this much on yours as well.
I guess that’s also why you have to be careful who you insure with also that they actually cover you for off road use. They definitely would adjust for it in your premium when you tell them the accessories that are on a car I would think. On that cape trip There was also the other y62 did an engine but that was under warranty as the high pressure fuel pump failed blowing the engine from metal going through. And yeah the Nav got written off.
@@4x4brothers Yeah for sure but then insurers will adjust if it's costing them too much anyway. Our very long term home insurer all of a sudden decided we were a flood risk, 100yo + house, and whacked a huge monthly premium on so we moved and our policy has over doubled in the last couple of years in spite of no claims anyway. Sounds like the insurers for that trip alone will be up for maybe 150k?
@@oldbloke204yeah we are at their mercy of what they decide to do and they can change at any time. I’ve even heard of an insurance company that if your cars away from its garaged address for more than 2 weeks they need to be notified where your at or your not covered. Lots of fine print in some policies. I would think mine would be repaired for maybe around the 35k mark and then the hire car on top of that. The Nav that got done on the cape was low 40s I think pay out for the car
@@4x4brothers Sounds pretty cheap for yours so I'm guessing that they're going to rebuild the engine. Saw a vid the other day about some people who tuned a Mittsi. 2.4 TD like mine and blew it up so no warranty. 22k for a new motor and it would be about the size of the starter motor on your thing. Sounds like that will mean a bit of a hit on the Nav as 40k doesn't buy much these days, especially with mods. added on. It can be a very expensive hobby when/if it all goes wrong.
@@oldbloke204yeah it’s not cheap hey. The y62 engine is about 15k for a crate engine so not to crazy. But your right it definitely can hurt the wallet when things go wrong
That's really unfortunate with the Nissan that's was a great rig. Myself I had the 300 series that was a bucket of junk so I went down to the 200 and really love it. It's ashame that I sold it. So went to the Hilux and love it a lot goes where I want to it with my set up.
Most seem to love the 300 over the 200 on the fb owners page. Hilux always has been a really solid car like most Toyotas just gotta pay the Toyota tax hey
The 300 isn’t too bad but interior in the back is small as you say and engine is crap. I’m happy with our y62. I recently insured with club 4x4 because aami wouldn’t insure it for what I wanted to insure it for. Plus they were a lot more expensive. Good luck mate
Yeah it’s almost close to being a great package the 300 but it just missing a few things for us as a choice. Interesting about club 4x4 I was with them many years ago then they doubled the premium for no reason the next year aami have been cheapest for me for years
