    I am 74 years old and I have been a lover of portable vintage typewriters since the late 1960s. I am really excited to stumble upon this video about some of my all time favourite typewriters. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your knowledge and wisdom about typewriters. I still use typewriters along with hand-written notes. The only disadvantage with typewriters is that we find it difficult to find the experts who could provide repair and service technicians. I live in Singapore.

      Thanks for the comment . Yes. It’s hard to find who repair or restore them every where around the world as for a fully working machine and reliable one, you need a proper approach . Thanks

    This is a really interesting topic. You might have saved us a bunch of money! Personally I have carried a typewriter around on little road-trips and enjoyed it, and had a tiny tiny miniature machine all through college. I've kind of settled on "pretty small", and have come to like the kind of things that have that hard clamshell case instead of some kind of wallet or briefcase. In my own limited experience the small Brother machines (Nagoya, Japan) like the Charger seem to really hold up, work well in general, make good clear type, and the keyboard is not TOO compact, which has been a problem. They are noisy! I think Brother might have made economy portable typewriters for other brands (I just got a portable ROYAL typewriter that was made in Japan, and seems related to the Brother. Maybe it's a Cousin?) so they are common and not expensive. Pulling out a typewriter in a coffee-shop, on a train (say) creates a little sensation, people take your picture, show their children... it leads to some lively conversation!

    Wow! My dream type face at 0:55, "Simplicitas"? In a pile of typewriters I only have ONE with a sans-serif type, an Adler J5. I think it's called "Cubic"? I just found that out yesterday, about something I got in 1974! Anyway, I'm sort of following up here. This is a pretty jolly story so far. Such things occasionally happen here in FLorida. It's probably possible to end up with a warhouse full of typewriters. Maybe just... four or five more? This isn't the best climate to store them!

    • @leonardpearlman4017
      @leonardpearlman4017 Месяц назад

      Ah, the type we just saw is more "Bauhaus" looking than the Adler's. The Adler still has a little elaboration on a few letters, the lower-case r especially. What we see here seems completely modernized. Did I even know that typewriter type faces were a study? I think 97 per cent of typewriters I've ever seen had about the same look. I suppose this information must be in a book or a web-site somewhere.

    There is also a lever below the carriage on the right that allows you to lock the carriage movement left to right, and places the rubber platten directly over the keyboard frame thus preventing damage to the paintwork when folded over. I haven’t found any videos that mentions this feature, which possibly explains why all the corona 3 shown on the web are chipped badly on the left and right of the frame. Interesting repair of the braille typewriter on the repair shop. A pity there wasn’t more detail on how it actually worked.

    My Wife finds it creepy when I turn to talk to her, while I continue to type. For fun practice once in a while I'll like to close my eyes and type out a sentence or two or three and see how I did. But I am not a sight typist wherein I look at the paper, instead I've always looked at the keys which has helped to remember where they are. I can go fast about 120-130 Wpm to a slow steady pace of 70 or 80 wpm, fun part about a typewriter is the fact you can go slow and think. I enjoy mechanical typewriters and write all my First Drafts. A beautiful pure machine you can dream on without a wireless world popping up. The mechanical typewriter is like a sewing machine that a writer uses to craft a story upon the typed sewn pages the machine has touched. This might sound silly, but I only buy typewriters that speak to me, my collection is small with just 7 machines, but all of them spoke to me. And I'm also a bit of a strange collector in that I also use my machines, but I care very much for each of them and they are well taken care of. I work them all trading them out each daily session although some machines stay a favorite for a while which I'll keep using. For example a good fast machine that disappears as you use it is the brother EP-43 and electric thermal typewriter, another and great workhorse that disappears, 1960's SCM Galaxie Deluxe. Then there are days it's great to crunch down the keys of luxury with my 1959 Hermes 3000, this lady has all that right curves in all the right places. Mine has records of being on the desk of a homicide detective, in 1959 from a repair bill and a note, is drips with inspiration to write a murder mystery on it. Thanks for reading, hope this finds you all very well, and thank you for the video.❤

    another thing....typewriters do not autocorrect. you have to actually know how to spell and pay more attention to spelling and sentence construction. and for me, the right typewriter just is so motivating to use...the feel, the sound....all makes me want to write! I NEVER get that with my laptop.

    I am having a period of going back to analog, I got tired of so much technology and like to go back to when things were not so complicated. And arrggghh, I am beating my head against the wall now. My dad had at his house my old Olivetti (can't remember the model), from when I was a kid and I did the typewritting certification exams and my parents bought it for me to do homework. He passed about 4 years ago and I cannot recall where the hell was the typewritter. Did we throw it? Maybe he sold it and was not at home, did we store it at our storage box? Damn I need to find out! Anyway if not I'll investigate where to get one with spanish keyboard. Thanks for this list, really narrows down the options and know which ones to look for.
