My mission is simple: To share stories, life lessons and my love of music & TV....oh yeah, and anything else I find of interest!
My channel is where I'll share my memories, chat about life in general and share my love of music, old films and more.
What you won't find is my thoughts on politics, religion and such like as I've always believed them to be personal.
Here, it's all about sharing those things I've learned through the years, and remembering events that have stayed with me.

Has time gone by so quickly for you too?
Time goes by so quickly that we don’t realise where it’s gone. Last week, we took a trip down memory lane and visited times gone by, good and bad, but came to a realization, and in this video I’ll share what that was. Has time gone by so quickly for you too?

I tried clicking my fingers but me arthritis is killing me
Age dear boy...age!
If got 11 years on you, and in the early 70s, I was music director and DJ at a radio station and I remember a lot of songs from that era including Rock Your Baby. Yes, at 75, time really goes fast. Thanks for the memory....
You're welcome. Thanks for your comment.
You probably remember the band creme brulee
@@glennbeadshaw727 the guys from The League of Gentlemen?
@@glennbeadshaw727 Creme? Yes, with Eric Clapton from the late 60s, In the White Room we used to play that song often.
yes months seemed like years when younger , now years seem like months
I know. It's crazy isn't it?
The reality is after we die all our dvd collection will go back to charity shops or even skip
I wo t worry about it then
@@JamesMurphyYT you know James , I’ve collected so many DVDs I’ve over the past recent years and I honestly wish I can live forever on this planet because I really enjoy watching and having a favourite collection of hard copy movies 🎥. Now I’m just trying to enjoy the present moment more and watch as many Movies on DVD as possible. Sometimes I watch the free ones on RUclips . After I watched them and had enjoyed them thoroughly I give it back to charity shops or even exchange it at my local CEX store. I just hope I don’t live too long and find that all the DVDs I’ve got rid of has resurged in value the same way Vinyl has 😂 I’d love to make an enormous profit before I die hahaha gosh I am silly I know .
@patrickpatel5527 I get loads of cheap DVDs from charity shops and I I watch them once and know I won't watch them again, I resonate so that someone else can watch them. I love watching my DVDs.
@@JamesMurphyYT me too! I’m a lot like you in terms of how I watch movies on DVDs 🍿. And I do love mooching around charity shops because it is amazing to hat you can pick up that random DVD treasure so to speak. Thanks for the convo 👍 it was terrific!

Can relate about the music. Good video.
Thank you.
Very true. Frightening how quickly it goes.
It does go really quickly.
Thanks for the drive. A major bit of multitasking there. I coluld never drive and concentrate that much on putting together a vid. What a wonderful time to be alive, to be able to revisit the music of the past. Just think, in days back much of the music went the way of the composer or performer. And, alot of times, if you didn't play it, you didn't listen to it. I'm going to try to leave a Birthday message in the next comment. Should it not take, then Happy Birthday!!!

Thnk you much appreciated.
Speaking "quantitatively" it's because each year is a smaller fraction of your life and thus feels relatively shorter. When you were 5 years old, a year was 20% of your existence...so when they said "your birthday is next year" it basically meant NEVER lol. Now when someone says "next year" it's 1/42nd of my life and thus feels like they mean tomorrow!
Never thought of it like that!
I listen to music from the late 80s and early 90s and it takes me back to better years mellow years. Now that I’m older time does feel like it’s flying faster.
I think it happens to all of us!
@@JamesMurphyYT I agree!
I don't think gen Z onwards will have that type of nostalgia with music. Music, tv, film used to be very unique to its era.
You’re right because my youth was always with portable radio or cassette Walkman I wonders if the you tube show that started your memory going back to 1970 year in music -was it the David Atkinson channel it’s up to 1980 now
I'd agree with that.
No, it was someone else. Steven something. Was great music though
I had that same conversation with my mom years ago and she was right although at the time I didn’t believe her either. Music from different eras always bring back memories of what I was doing or who I was with and it’s wonderful. Thanks for the lovely video and Happy Birthday to you! Enjoy your day and keep up the good work!😃👍🥳🎂
Our parents were pretty wise. I've been collecting my Dad's LPs again. Thanks.
Fantastic video! Always love your honesty, you definitely always keep it real!👍
Thank you. That's always been my aim.
I enjoyed this video with the driving around! It’s cool to see England in real life like that. I’m 28 and I admit, I feel like you did with your mom, I don’t believe time will go by faster! But, I know I will realize like you did that it certainly will. Thanks for making this video and providing me with some much needed perspective. I’m also trying to walk every day since I was inspired by your weight loss video a few months ago! Love the channel and hope you’re also doing well health-wise Also, I’m just curious, do you currently live in the same town/area that you grew up in? I’m not sure I’ve heard you mention it before
No I don't live in the area I was born. I'm about 75 miles from there, but before I moved here, I was 200 miles away on the South coast.
Great video. It definitely makes you think about how much time has gone by. Happy Birthday for Monday! 🎉🎉
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Always fantastic videos you give to make us think. I find that the music I always want to go back to is from my younger days. Not always pleasant memories. There is a Cat Stevens song that brings back memories of heartache. I can listen to the Andrews Sisters and have a good cry. But that's before my time. Of course many songs that bring back happy memories. Why else would we listen? In the 60's the pop charts were torn between what the parents wanted and what us kids wanted. It was easy to choose sides. There really was no choice.
I love the Andrews Sisters. My parents used to play their songs a lot of the time. Being Mir Bist Du Schoen is favourite. I'm glad you're finding my videos of value. Thanks.
funny you asked. No. I feel like I would rather be done with it. And I do not say in the negative way.
I'll take your word. I wish you the best.
What I'm oddly noticing this summer is how much extra sun hrs we're _supposed_ to have, but it's already 9pm. I'm just not feeling these 'long days of summer' as being particularly long. Hours are more like half hrs lately.
I don't feel that we've had a great summer. We've had a lot more rain this year and the nights have drawn in at 9pm but it doesnt feel like it's been along hot summer day.
@@JamesMurphyYT true. Been a letdown with the summer. I reckon September will be better. Like last year.
@@matthewmedley8532 I do hope so, although.its lovely today here.
Happy Birthday! May this be the best trip around the sun EVER!! Music and smells always take me back. I'm surprised daily that I'm still around.
Music always does it for me. The smell of diesel reminds me of being on fairgrounds when I was a child. Thank you.
Thank you. Happy Birthday for Monday 🎉
Thanks Jonathan. We're off to the coast tomorrow.
I always think wow this year went so fast why is this the case? My answer: the things I invest my time I'm not engaged that much, I should do more meaningful things to me, memorable things
I think that's probably true for many of us.
Top 5: 1. INLAND EMPIRE 2. Perfect Days 3. La Haine 4. The Prestige 5. Eraserhead
I'm ashamed to say I've only seen Eraserhead in that selection. I need to check the others out.
Twin Peaks only at 84?
Sadly so...but that could change if I was in a different mood.. I've just bought it on DVD to watch again, so it could change.
@@JamesMurphyYT Fire Walk With Me and The Return are well worth watching too, if you haven't already.
@@TheoWatters I'll add them to my list. Thanks

It's still being released in the UK weekly, so I'm forever hopeful. More DVDs were bought in the last year than in the last 5, so there's always hope.
Top 5. 1/ Saving Private Ryan. 2/ empire strikes back. 3/ the green mile. 4/ The Godfather. 5/ Dead Calm.

You have a great taste in films.

Brilliant list. Great video.
Thank you.
I was thinking on my top 5 and I could not do it. So many great movies I love from so many different genres. Even a top 10 would be really hard.some movies I really love, though, are Jaws, Close encounters Of The Third Kind,Jurassic Park, A Christmas Story, The Muppets Christmas Carol, North By Northwest, The Alamo (John Wayne), It’s A Wonderful Life, Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, Twister, the original Godzilla, A Silent Voice, Spaceballs, and a few others that are slipping my mind right now.
Thanks for sharing. It's great fun thinking about it though.
Interesting list. Was sort of expecting to see The Sandbaggers on there--it's one of my favorites anyway. Just for fun I'll share a story: I have a very, very minor connection to #9 Band of Brothers which was inspired by a nonfiction novel by Stephen Ambrose. Quite a long while ago, I worked at an arboretum and a gentleman who had been walking the trails there got caught in the rain, so he came into the building where I worked and, as I was the only staff in at the time, we had a long chat on a number of subjects. Quite interesting and informative. Thereafter when he came back for other walks (perhaps three times), he'd stop in to ask my thoughts on something or other. I understood that this gentleman was a retired university professor but I had no idea until later that he was the writer Stephen Ambrose. It's kind of amazing who we meet in life, even in small town Mississippi.
Wow! How about that? I don't think I've ever seen The Sandbaggers.
Norrrrm! What, Frasier but no Cheers!?! And no "Are You Being Served"?? I think there were about four that would have made my top 100. The 7up series was one. I am so disgusted, I have the whole series up to 63. It never played around here and I never could find it on DVD. It makes me so arrggghhh that I couldn't get the last one. You have some that I've never seen but would really like to. Stuck on a remote island; I wouldn't mess around, boy, with Ozzie and Harriet, nor would I be without the Paul Lynde show ( RUclips EP. 9,2 or 121). Having been without a TV for a long time growing up, I still find it hard to put together a list of 200, let alone 100. Gidget was another can't live without. I can't believe that I can't find a program I really like nowadays, but growing up, it would be difficult to put together a favorite 200. Oh, another I really liked was the Blue Knight with George Kennedy, and, oh yeah, Thea. Ahhhhh, so many. By the way, this was just released; don't know if you came across it but thought you might like it. Yeti presents; All that is sacred. ruclips.net/video/HR5HUmj-DJM/видео.htmlsi=26JnkZ7T6j6ilyfp
Believe it or not, I've never seen Cheers! I missed it at the time, and despite hearing about it, have never caught it. I have all the 7 UP programmes which was why I put collection. I'll have to check out the others!
My favourite hospital drama was St Elsewhere but I liked the others you mentioned too. Also liked Cold Case and Without a Trace which were around the same time as CSI. No mention of Poirot? I'm rewatching the boxset just now. Also rewatching The Wonder Years, one of my faves. I really enjoyed Poldark and Upstairs Downstairs (70s versions) but had no time for Downton Abbey, tastes change I suppose.
I could have done a 200 to be honest. I never got to see St Elsewhere or Without a Trace. My parents liked Upstairs Downstairs, but as a teen I didn't have time for it. I was surprised how much I liked Downton Abbey. I only watched the first episode a few years ago and immediately liked it (mainly because of Maggie Smith).
Man in a Suitcase! I had forgotten that one, but I have to admit of not hearing of many of the British shows, although I certainly recognize some of the stars. No Star Treks for you?
Funnily enough, I don't think I've ever watched a fun episode of Star Trek. Even as a kid, it never really appealed to me. Dr. Who was the same. I'm not much of Science Fiction kind of guy. 'Lost' was about as close to it as I got.
@@JamesMurphyYT To each his own, James. I love some British shows, but the humor of some escapes me,(as do many American sitcoms). I would love to see many that I have not seen that were on your list, especially Pushing Daisies.
Pushing Daisies was brilliant. Such a novel idea. Check it out if you can.
100%
Thank you. I'm glad it struck a chord with you.
I don’t know if you put-are you being served
No...it didn't quite make it.
Interesting list - I have 30+ of those on disk, but there are a small number that I'm ignorant of. I must express my disappointment that Aufwiedersehen Pet is not on the list - this is an outrage, and I'll be writing to my MP about it 😂😂. Thanks for the vid - brings back memories of some that I'd forgotten about.
Auf Wiedersehn Pet was close...but Jimmy Nail, Kevin Whatley and Timothy Spall all made an entrance in subsequent offerings. ...and that, Sir, is my defence!
@@JamesMurphyYT Defence well made. That show certainly kick-started some successful acting careers!
Oh, memories! Really enjoyed it. But I was hoping that "Mind your language" would be here. Monty Python I sort of expected to be out of the list. Spin City was heartwarming.
My Dad loved Monty Python, but I could never get into it. I did think about Mind Your Language, but it seems so dated now, as do Rising Damp and Bless this House which I thought about added but in the end decided not too. For me, a lot of 70s comedy doesn't make me laugh anymore... On The Buses being a perfect example. I used to love all of them.
Robin of Sherwood -ITV (1984) ?
I know...we were talking about it the other day, but I couldn't make my mind up. It was close.
I love this. Totally amazing. Must have taken a lot of work to put it all together. But I grew up in an earlier time. When we first got our TV I was probably nine years old and I loved Captain Kangaroo. Later everything cowboy but not Bonanza because it became too adult for me. I grew up with all the American stuff in Canada but I remember a British program Saber Of London that I loved to watch. But I gave up on TV early because I no longer could tolerate the family agenda. The British Invasion happened and the Beatles became the way to be. It was time to become me.
There were others like Casey Jones, the Rifleman and Land Of The Giants, but I couldn't squeeze them in. It took over 15 hours to source the clips and stitch them together.
Interesting. Brought back many memories ! ( The Professionals ! )
There we so many to choose from. I'm sure I forgot some too. I used my DVD collection for the basis of it.
G'day, I'll watch later this Friday morning, it's 4am and I'm still asleep 😊
Sleep well!
