However, after doing this for almost 2 years, I've picked up a few tips and tricks along the way that have really helped me figure out how to stay consistent with my art even while I work my full-time job. As I mentioned in the video, I don't want to make it seem like I have it all figur...
I think copying other artists is a GOOD THING
Просмотров 4 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Let's talk about master studies, baby!! Okay, okay, let me be clear I DON'T think that anybody should plagiarize anybody else's art. It is NOT OKAY to copy somebody else's artwork and make it out as your own. Don't do that. Super uncool, and also illegal. HOWEVER, creating master copies of artwork can be SUCH a valuable way to learn from the artists that you love, and to develop a style that re...

This is genuinely one of my favorite topics to talk about. In the creative/online entrepreneurship world, we often see the relentless pursuit of MORE wherein people are always jumping to the next big revenue goal. I'm trying to be very intentional about NOT falling into that trap, and instead focusing on the idea of "enough" as I grow my business from the ground up. I don't need an opulent life...

PAINTING during a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE! 🎨

This video is a SUPER RAW, surprisingly emptional peek into my day watching the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, and making artwork alongside (and about) the eclipse. It's a bit of a throwback style for me in that it's not super polished or planned, but rather a laid-back vlog style video. It's also one of my first experiences with plein air painting! My plan to become a full time artist! ✿ Starting from zero
Oh wow this video is probably the most relatable video i’ve ever watched.. i’m a very ambitious person but i know that all i want is a peaceful life.
Not hating, but going from $0 to $75k in two years is not "too long". Watch some interviews of current professional illustrators and you'll see many of them didn't make a livable income until 5 or even 10 years down the road. Those who made it quickly either had connected friends, already had a job in publishing/advertising/etc. or had dumb-luck encounters with a person who boosted their careers. Again, not hating on you or your goals. It's good you have a plan, just don't go into this thinking it's quick and simple. As the saying goes: "if it were so easy, everyone would do it".
Super useful and and encouraging! Thank you ❤
Wow - the water color paper texture is wonderful! I love this blending possibility! Magic.
I'm a rank beginner and don't even have PS yet. I wish you could sit down on my sofa and teach me from the starting gate -- but even though it looks incredibly intimidating to me, I loved this tutorial. Your painting is lovely, as well! So many interesting ideas -- for example, the point of having a multi- directional pattern for the people who sew. I had not thought of that. Tell me: is designing for wall papers the same as for fabric?
I need need help. My wild Feral pregnant mom loves me a lot . Im stll not sure how or where to help her
What I truly failed to understand is if people not willing to put their time and effort into a thing which they are passion about than obviously they will be tempted to go for a high paid course which is hyped up to turn their fortunes around.
Its sounds like good advice but I have the contrary problem: Im a 41 year old overweight bipolar artist who has been unemployed for quite some time and has very little to no money. Right now i have 3 dollars in my pocket and im gonna spend it on a coffee tomorrow in a nice coffee shop so i can draw and work on my projects (its kinda my studio place where I work). I live with my parents. I dont starve but try being bipolar with mediocre doctors in Mexico and finding a low stressfull job. Its a trap and nearly imposible. Those who think im making excuses dont live in Tijuana Mexico like me. I walk dogs for a living and they just give me tips.
makes me feel better hearing you being transparent about initial “failure” as i got so discouraged after my first attempt at having an art shop lost me over a thousand dollars lol
My favorite thing about your videos is how real and true to yourself you are. You show all the non super aesthetic imperfect, normal, cluttered content that I love to see. Thank you for sharing your journey and for being so authentic! ❤
How to monitize patterns😊
Yes it's relaxing watching this. I have been to Disney in different countries around the world but not the Florida one or the one in hong Kong. Gotta love 💖💖💖 Disney 😊😊😊
I love your videos ❤ You may talk about something I already know but, you always give me ideas of how I can do it better. Thank you.
I going to signup for the 2025 Surface Design Immersion. I am so excited! 🎉
Thank you for the tutorial. I have been using illustrator for my repeats. I wanted to learn how in photoshop too. You explain things very well.
The price for the course keeps hiking and the fact that she charges for the "Study group" is disappointing. Lots of people make a sacrifice to take her course and charging extra for work she and or her team are not doing is plain sinful. The leader and the team members are putting the effort. Yes, she or her team suggests this but charging for it as if the course price is not high enough is outrageous, especially in this economy. The truth is that BC and her company mastered bottling everything and selling it and people keep just giving her their hard earned money.
What kind of scanner do u use?
Cool❤
Another Sarah here! I realize I’m finding you a bit late but it’s still nice to find other artists starting from the beginning and figuring it all out. I hope the last year has gone well for you!
This video is great! It’s cool to watch videos with people who are on the same journey as you! 🎉
I too follow Bonnie and Cat coquellete. Can you attach the skillshare class of Cat Coquette that you had taken? I am unable to get how to transfer the hand drawn motifs into the digital and then how to transfer them to a fabric. Can you help me with that?
Thank you so much for sharing. It helped me a lot..❤❤
*cries in adhd*
Love this authentic approach. I was looking for an artistic channel which is transpatent and still doing art. More and more art channels are just doing videos about how to earn money with art but actually not earning themself money with art but with videos talking about how to make money with art 🥴😵 glad you popped up on my newsfeed. i subscribed and i am curious how your channel is going to evolve ❤
Hi thank you for sharing! Can you explain why "Embed Color Profile" was checked while saving the file?
Hi! Would love to see more of your work and updates!
Look at it as Level One and Level Two+. It’s worth it. I’ve done/am doing both.
Thank you for the all step by step process, it's very helpful for my project. Thank you 🙏🏾
Thanks for sharing those valuable tips. It sounds so simple but it truly is building long-lasting reliable habits and discipline (healthy routines) to be able to fall back on. Your videos and work inspired me to make my own patterns and one of the ideas I had was a much more abstract type repeat. If you have any tips on how to approach that, think, big blocks of al paste oil paint, texture, shapes, bold contrasts, that isn’t as easy to blend the seam lines with Stamp tool in PS, I’d be super grateful. Thanks so much in advance!
I'm really interested in this. How did you transfer paper painting to digital one? 🩷
I TOTALLY relate to your reason for moving although it wasn't necessarily "practical" My husband & I moved about 2 yrs ago to a 12 acre wooded property with a smaller home,no garage or basement AND an HOUR away from our jobs. We lived at our previous house (first house we bought) for 24 yrs....so it was a HARD move. I'm not usually a sentimental person; but as we finished loading the last items into the truck and I "mopped myself" out the door, I said out loud, "Goodbye little house" and totally surprised myself by getting overwhelmed with emotion. We had raised our 2 daughters there, done SO MUCH work/home improvements (major projects, including a full addition, all by ourselves/nothing hired out)....literal blood, sweat, and tears! AND we had paid down most of our mortgage....but we longed to be in a rural, wooded setting. We found the ideal property, ended up getting it and now have started over on a mortgage, have a property that needed alot of clean up/work, and have a 2 hour commute each day (luckily we work at the same company and drive together) BUT it has been so worth it to live in the woods and within walking distance to 5 different lakes. We have whitetails in our yard every day and see all other kinds of wildlife regularly. Being surrounded by gorgeous giant oak, walnut & white pine trees is so inspirational and nourishing to my creative spirit....I 100% understand why you wanted a home closer to nature. Thanks for sharing your journey..it's been inspiring to me as I try to finally pursue my own creative business goals (at a much later stage in life!)
So so helpful! Thank you
I thought the baguettes did look cool, the linear version it self could be a baggy over shirt -that draws curiosity! I love how you improved the jellies too. Your 7mo progress really rang a bell for me. Surface patterns have been entering and leaving my path for last 6 years as a job but it wasn’t something I’ve tried to pursue alone as an artist. Seeing a progressive video like this motivates me to even try repeat prints with my imperfect rookie motifs, so no need to start from scratch. Thank you for sharing your process. Wishing you the best 🎉
wishing you the best of luck in making a sucsessful business
2:09 also just a friendly reminder just because we call them kitchen cabinets doesn’t mean you need to keep kitchen supplies in them.
yes! someone who is honest and open about the money aspect! My goals are so similar, I'm hoping to get towards $60k/year at first and obviously get bigger
Wow, another great video. I've actually never heard of this course. I took Jenna Rainey's Brand + Brand course. I loved it. You totally answered one of my mental questions in this video about Photoshop vs Illustrator and which is better for creating patterns. I too, favor the painted look so I think I'll be sticking with Photoshop. I love learning about your journey because I feel like I'm almost at the same point in my potential art business. I don't have a full time job outside the home, but I've got 5 kids 😅. And it gives me hope knowing there are other people trying to do this. I REALLY hope you get successful.
Oh my gosh, this video was amazing! I was trying desperately to make patterns in PS and I was doing it in such a dumb way. The pattern preview was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you SOOO much!
thanks for this info.
One benefit of being a digital artist: I can just work on my smartphone and take out a finger and make art. Insta-art. Say goodbye to the days of art supplies and paints that run out. Hello digital art!
Personally, I am more drawn to sequential art. Comics. Graphic novels. Picture books. Cover art for novels. Just one problem. Who is going to hire me? (lol)
This is gold dust, thank you so much for sharing🤩
At -4:59 my new layer doesn't have the color what did I do wrong?
I took the course this year in February 2024, and because I already work full-time as an in-house Graphic Designer, I can only devote, like you, a few hours in the evenings and at weekends and in the holidays to Immersion. I personally think that it is the best course for surface pattern design out there currently, but I have found since that it has no Photoshop training in there, and I would have to take another course, perhaps Sarah Watt's course in Paint to Pattern to gain experience in this software, which I haven't ruled out. Bonnie's 2024 course is now in 8 modules and because it is more like a 12 week course, I still haven't completed it yet. It is now structured to complete with you working along with the modules over 3 months, 6 months or 12 months, so I am on the 12 month pathway and still on the last few lessons in Module 3, so I have not yet met a repeat pattern module. However, I am not completely new to surface pattern, as I based one of my final modules at University as a mature student in Visual Communication on repeat patterns in the Urban Environment for Interiors and Giftware, writing my own briefs, designing and creating my own digital patterns for my final show which was First Class for that module. This is why I felt that an online course would really help me come away from.being just another corporate designer. I also bought a course called 'Pattern It Up' which was only $300, with the proceeds of a freelance job in May 2021 offered by Okscancia Textile Design School, which also offers training using Adobe Illustrator, but whose training uses scripts and actions set up for you in the programme.. Similarly to Bonnie Christine, Oksana has no formal design training, but teaches you some drawing skills to encourage you to scan into your computer to manipulate in Adobe Illustrator. However, compared to Bonnie's course I found Oksana's training to be not quite on a par with Bonnie's although still very good quality as a short course. The membership, however, offered as a free month and then followed by a subscription is really excellent and compared with Bonnie's Flourish of which I am also a member, as I joined when Immersion finished, it only has 6 or 7 students which meet online every Tuesday for Masterclasses, Office Hours and Group Co-Working each for an hour and a half, and Oksana knows everyone and greets us all by name. Bonnie doesn't even know I exist! But maybe I just haven't pushed myself enough with Flourish as I only really have the time for the one membership and of course to fully complete Immersion to the very end so that I can finally open the Graduation Letter and celebrate! But only after I complete it and find the elusive TEST that apparently exists somewhere. You need to take this test or quiz which is somewhere hidden in the later modules, and then you are a legitimate graduate and are legally allowed to be in Flourish (although I heard it was at one time offered to everyone, not just graduates of Immersion). But one final comment on Immersion, it just makes me feel so special, even though we never actually communicated, she just does with the quality of the course, the way it is so skillfully designed, with the box full of goodies, planting seeds that represent you as a student and your progress, and her enthusiasm and drive, which I just haven't seen in Oksana's courses, and also not in some others, and there are a lot out there. In fact, I am torn because I would quite like to do a photoshop based course by a designer/teacher based in the UK, and I do think there are at least one or two - Natasha Gulliford looks quite a talent - she specialises in painterly florals. Can you tell me if you had to do this test/exam in the 2023 version of Immersion and pass it? Pam Terry
my cats would run away immediately 😄
One year update video next month?! 👀
Very interesting, and thanks for sharing. You are truly fun to watch, and I have learned a lot from you.
I’ve really enjoyed these! I was wondering how you isolate the different background color from not bleeding through and changing the motif color when you’re using the multiply tool? Does it have to do with the layer order?
This is brilliant. I’d always wondered if such a thing as the pattern preview existed. Guessing it works for half drop patterns as well?
This is the most helpful video, thank you so much!
