And then I’d say I spent maybe 30-60 minutes organizing everything in notion. Well worth the effort for the clarity it brings! I’d definitely recommend it!

There’s a lot of work that goes into starting something like this with very little “reward” in the early days (at least, little financial reward - the beginnings are so rewarding in lots of other ways!), but creating a roadmap like this one makes my big goals really feel achievable. Hurray!!! Honestly just writing down my goals has been such a massive game changer. I have the little pieces of paper taped up in a hallway where I walk a million times every single day, and it’s been really great to have my goals right there in my face lol. I definitely think I’ll do a more granular video for each phase. One of my goals for 2024 is to actually plan out my videos more than a week in advance lol so thank you for this great excuse to put this idea on my brand new content calendar!

Fun channel. I applaud your goal! Probably someone else already said this, but if you want to replace your income from an employer with comparable amount of self-employment income, remember to account for the additional self-employment taxes. Add about 30% to your old salary.

I've spent the last year learning. I used to sell items on eBay and I understood buying wholesale and selling retail, but that became very saturated and it was a race to the bottom in pricing structures. I realized that I have an art form that very few people use and it almost died out. It has been gaining in popularity but to really master it takes time and patience. I was taught embroidery when I was very young by my mother and now I have found that it has progressed into "thread painting". I'm hooked. I don't view this learning time frame as a negative, I'm learning marketing online, software, and how to turn my art form into products that are affordable to many.
Thread painting is AMAZING - that’s so cool! I totally agree that the learning phase is super important. This stuff just takes time. It’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme, and I wouldn’t want it to be!

My issue with this planing structure for my own goals after doing this for 8 years is maintaining all the revenue streams. It’s a lot to maintain a store, weekly RUclips channel, commissions, Patreon, newsletter etc at the same time to make all of them profitable. I’m currently trying to focus on growing one revenue stream at a time based on where I’d like to see most of my income come from in the future.
That’s such a good point! It seems like, while it’s generally advised that we should have many streams of revenue just in case one or more dips, I also totally relate to that feeling of trying to move 40 different projects forward at the same time and only managing to move each one a millimeter. I definitely think it’s true that what you put your energy into grows, so there definitely can be benefits to leaning into one or two revenue streams as a main priority for a good while to see where they go. I have my fingers crossed that your new approach will pan out for you!
