Paul is my name photography is my game. To say I'm obsessed is and understatement I'm more possessed. If photography is your passion you are in the right place. I share my experiences shooting all manner of subjects. I'm not a naturally gifted teacher but I will try to offer help and advise to anyone. Photography is NOT easy but it is always fun. At around age 11 my dad came home with a camera he clicked a button then vanished under the stairs emerging later with a black and white print. I was hooked from that day to this and beyond. I'm a professional newspaper photographer in New Zealand. I shoot canon at the paper. In my own time I shoot Landscapes astro, sports, street photography and anything else. I shoot various camera brands. I shoot film and digital. I develop my own black and white film in Kodak D76. Hope you enjoy my efforts. Regards Paul

New Year New OLD CAMERA After 10 plus years of loyal faultless heavy service with the Canon 1DX I've decided I need a new work horse body. I was advised to go with Sony, but I have an array of Canon EF lenses, so it makes complete sense to stick with Canon. Next advice was get the Canon R5 Mii. It makes sense BUT and it's a dumb but, I don't like the look of the R5 ii I much prefer the integrat...

Wonderful review! I just bought one and a Russian 50mm can’t wait to try it out!
That's awesome mate thanks for feedback and all the best with your new gear you're gonna love it
Nice video. Nice shot. Nice music. Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work
Hey thanks so much for the support cheers
Love this fella, great planning & dedication to hunting a shot. Also A1 for outstanding Māori pronunciation - better than most Kiwis.
Cheers mate appreciate it I do try with the pronunciation I think my accent is more suited to te reo than to actual English haha
Amazing photography! How did you set up you AF?
Hey cheers mate just set AF to single point continuous
Wow cool, would be great to catch up you while I’m back for a visit!?
Amazing shots! I might need to get back up there now the weather is getting better! (I hope lol)
Haha yeah mate deffo worth the effort and no such thing as bad weather just crap choice in clothes haha
Happy New Year, Paul ✌️Congratulations on getting your new Camera too. 😎Wow you captured some cracking pictures… just beautiful mate. 🍻
Hey cheers mate appreciate it have an awesome new year too shoot loads make memories stay well xx
@ Glad to hear you’re having a. great start to the year 😎👍and thanks! ✌️
@jdstrobist cheers mate fingers crossed 25 will be a beauty for us all
Since you have lived with this camera more than what is shown in this video, which types of differences (both good and bad) have stood out to you, the most?
So far the AF is faster for sure. I like the silent shutter option it will be handy for shooting golf and weddings. So far I prefer the overall feel of the 1dx its built to survive I'm sure the R3 is too but I'm a tad heavy on my gear so will be interesting to see how it holds up. The extra frames per second will be awesome for shooting sports to get the exact right moment but it will mean I have to get used to faster selection on the field it's over double what the 1dx shoots. I still think the 1dx is an amazing camera for its age it's still massively impressive and I'm sure there will be some bargains out there. The R3 so far is mightily impressive too.
You can’t beat a great sunset over water.
Water always adds to the scene mate for sure
Some cracking shots there mate, as a new tool in the box it looks like a winner. And once you are used to it you will be commenting on how heavy the old one is 🤣. Looking forward to seeing you use it more to see what it can do. But as always, it’s the thing behind the camera that is important.
Ahhhh cheers mate yeah sadly the only lighter body is the R3 my body had a great festive season. Hope ya had a good un n all Matt.
What backpack do you have ?
Hey mate it's a think tank glass limo I can get two bodies a 70-200 2.8 a 16-35 2.8 a speedlite and transmitter a swag of batteries and cables in there it's a squeeze but works it's comfortable too and spreads the weight nicely.
What was your kit
Hey mate canon 1dx 16-35 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 and a bin liner to keep the kit dryish haha
@@paultaylorphotography9499 nice one i hve 70-200 1st version wondering what to get next 16-35 or 24-70 cost alot for other versions
@@rmika9229 depends what you're shooting mate if you want to get close and wide the 16-35 is the go otherwise for general photography the 35-70 is sound personaly I love the 16-35 at 16mm close into the action adds impact
WOW great shots Paul keep at it.
Thanks mate appreciate it
Amazing shots with the clouds and foreground elements. Hilarious you found your sandals at the end. I think I need to add New Zealand to my bucket list.
Definitely get to NZ so much going on stunning locations and conditions never short of something to shoot
Stunning. I really like your IR photography. Is there a more budget friendly camera other than the x-pro2 that you would recommend for conversion to IR? I’d really like a converted camera. It looks like the x-T20 has the same sensor and it’s quite a bit cheaper. Is there a reason to go with the x-pro2 over something like that?
Hey cheers mate appreciate it. Absolutely any camera is worth conversation only reason I chose to do the xpro2 is because I love the thing but wasn't using it much. Now after conversation it's always with me. Good luck on your choice you're gonna love IR
@ thank you so much! I find your videos very inspiring!
@@stork1122 cheers mate really appreciate the feedback xx
I used to take 35mm film IR shots, exhibit and sell them. It’s easier these days with digital.
Definitely easier mate I once tried film ir like a muppet didn't ready the instructions just stuck the film in and got crappy black n white shots didn't know I had to use a filter on lens haha
Great video. I have the Canon 7 which is just wonderful. I love the thought of using the elmar, my 7 is sporting a Jupiter 8 which is lovely. One little thing, your kids scream scared the life out of both me and the dog 😂😂 OK, next video
Haha yeah those kids are pretty full on haha thanks for taking a look mate the 7 looks awesome
VERY nice photos.
Cheers mate appreciate it
Look the App Lanthers are just spiffed up Color Helier's with some rare metal - possible radioactive glass. The 105 Heliar color is the lens of lenses !! I have used it with Bessa 2 for 2 decades. BTW I have an Apo Lanthar 150mm on the 4x5 . Super as well. I have figured some similar lenses for 35mm that I have adapted for Mirrorless digital as well. Still trying to replicate the 105 lens since I went to digital ...
Thanks for the info mate much appreciated
Those are awesome photos. That MINOLTA is a great camera. I own two of them.
Hey cheers mate love Minolta gear this in in particular is such and awesome camera thanks for checking in and commenting I'm a bit jealous you have two haha
Awesome shots!
Cheers D
Looks like it was a whole lot of fun! Great shots Paul 😎✌️
Great shots! Do you have any tips on how you managed to get everything in focus? I’m just starting out with the 35 SP, and I find focusing quite time-consuming. I’m especially impressed that you were able to capture people in motion with such sharp focus. Thank you!
Hey cheers mate appreciate the feedback. Focus on range finders is pretty quick providing your focus patch is clear in the viewfinder also you can set your aperture to say F8 which gives greater depth of field. Zone focus is a good method too there are loads of good tutorials on RUclips that demonstrate it better than I can type it haha. Using the focus tab becomes easy the more you use it I tend to walk around with no intention of taking a shot just constantly focusing on different subjects to get a feeling for the movement. Hope that helps mate cheers
@ super helpful! Thank you
@@Lorfer10 welcome mate cheers
Magnifique reportage. Merci beaucoup pour ce partage. Nous sommes tous frères et sœurs sur cette planète.
YEAH GO OMAHU!!
omg please keep that sharp dirty drywall screw away from that camera!
Hahaha good spot I had to rewatch the vid to see what you meant, then spotted my makeshift pointer hahaha Ive always been a risk taker. Cheers for watching
Hi Paul, and greetings from ol' Blighty. Forgive me for banging-on again about this video but it seems to have had quite a profound effect on me. I want to emulate the impact of your images using a film camera. I know this video was shot with a Canon DX1, and probably bolstered in post, but your FP4 negs in previous vids seem similarly contrasty when developed in d76 for the standard eleven minutes - and I love it! What the hell am I doing wrong, please? Thanks again.
Hey mate hope ya well. I always edit the same way whether film or digital. So once imported into lightroom classic I'll hit the auto levels to get a ball park the open the shadows and drop highlights then go to tone curves at the bottom is a drop box I always apply strong tone curve. Then I'll add a touch of clarity and dehaze not much though then add a wee vignette to darken the edges. If there's a decent sky I'll add a sky mask then add a touch more dehaze to just to the sky mark that adds a bit more drama. Hope that helps mate......I'm the digital I shoot colour then just do a mono conversion in Lightroom then do the other steps as above let me know if ya need anything mate appreciate the comments too.
@paultaylorphotography9499 Hi Paul, I'm sincerely grateful to you for taking the time to provide such an informative and detailed response to my question. I'm no expert with PS or LR but will definitely be having a go at improving my current efforts. As your newest subscriber, I look forward to watching many more of your (analogue) videos... Atb.
@@russellsprout2223 all gds mate you can also get lightroom mobile it's a free phone app does everything I mentioned so well worth looking into that. Thanks too for the sub I have a roll of film in the canon L3 at the moment hopefully I'll get it finished next few days haha
If the batteries are knackered, could this effect the metering?
Yeah mate the meter needs batteries. You can try new batteries or do without the onboard meter and use a handheld meter

@@paultaylorphotography9499I I can see those expressed emotions clearly in your amazing pictures! ✌️
@jdstrobist thanks mate I was shattered just shooting em haha
The Bessa II dated from the early to mid-1950s. It's principal drawback is a very squinty viewfinder, in the style of those from pre-war models. Others had introduced more useful and modern viewfinders at the time, so IMO this style was driven by a desire to maintain the Deco styling and clean lines as the expense of practicality. The camera was offered with a choice of three lenses. The Color-Skpoar is a Tessar copy, least costly. This model is the great majority of cameras made. The Color-Heliar, shown in the video, adds a 5th corrective lens element, a unique lens from Voigtlander which has been much copied. Finally, for its cost, the quite rare model with the Apo-Lantar lens. This lens was as close to a true apochromatic lens as was possible at the time. Relatively few were made, and many of those were stripped of the lens for other uses. When found, this model of Bessa II commonly costs as much as $4,000. With a 6x9cm film format, the differing lens performances were of little consequence in the 1950s if used at their best apertures. Today, with scanning and digital printing replacing traditional enlargement prints, there is no functional difference at all, as the digital processing would eliminate any visible differences in imaging.
Alot of lies going on here, practcally no one on the march has looked at the bill. Media in NZ is under a strong socialist influence and is fueling unnecessary emotional nonsense. Moari party and labour cant be trusted and do not have ever NewZealanders best interests at heart
And all the fools followed the Maori party bullshit !!!!ruclips.net/video/yarm0Jhe7Xc/видео.html
Great photos. The song is not in line with the spirit with the electrifying spirit of the Hikoi though. If I turn the sound off I can keep watching.
Fair enough mate
Mauri Ora!!!!! 🙌🏾
The Hikoi was Worldwide 🌐 👏 Not just in Aotearoa but also in Hawaii , England , Canada , Australia , America & other Country's that aljazera News showed on the telly yesterday.
😮
@@DrjRobinson yes it did receive worldwide attention but unfortunately Maori don’t realise that they now look like a mob of uneducated racists. Reason : any person that protests because they are against a bill which would provide equality for all people really makes them fools to the outside world.
We all the right to peaceful protest here and power too it but nah bro we are all equal otherwise i aint paying one cent into the tribunal no more if we are now divided cuz hahaha our babies walk hand in hand or you get your own money because we are poor af already and struggling too. You cant always get what want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need :) kia-kaha. Dont hate me for putting me and my bubba first please i wouldn't do it to you
We all kiwi no matter what skin colour. Why drive us apart aye. We should be united as kiwis. Divide and conquer is the strategy of those who want to control us. We are all equal :)
