Hey mate yeah I have a 2x and a 1.4 for the canon the 2x Ive not used for years not even sure where it is the 1.4 is definitely better even though I don't use it a lot either they were both basically there for emergency use at the paper if I was at an incident where I needed but was unable to get close enough. I found image quality from the 1.4 to be very good but the 2x in my experience was ok but definitely lost sharpness then again at such distances I was shooting with converters on the 500mm f4 heat haze and glare off the ocean didn't help. For shots like the one in this video converters would have been a good choice. You also lose a couple of stops of light so on the f4 lens the 2x converter becomes f8 etc Hope that ramble helps.
