I've just taken a look at mine and there is some side to side movement in it, a few millimetres, but I can't honestly tell you if it has always been like this or gone like that over time. In comparison to the brake or clutch pedal, it is clearly more movement, but the accelerator pedal is a longer pedal, so that might also be why. Hope this helps.

I am fairly tall, at 6 foot two, and weighing in at around 195 pounds or about 14 stone. I would say it's a good fit for anyone tall, and if you are little more skinny than me, it should give you room to grow into it.

The FOV settings in iracing do you mean? These I generally don't touch when using VR as they are supposed to be already set by the headset you are using.

have you tried opening the OPenXR toolkit inside iracing using the keyboard shortcuts?

Hi, thank you for the feedback. I'm afraid the short answer to your question is; you don't see the keyboard! I use the 'nose gap' technique of trying to peer down to figure out where the keyboard is, and also a bit of muscle memory. Takes some getting used to, and some trial and error, but at some point it becomes easier. Be nice to have a keyboard that showed my hands over it, but as hand tracking doesn't work when the PC app is connected to the headset, I am not sure we will ever have such a feature. At least not in a meta headset.

Funny you should say that Globular Cluster have sent me their interface and also their headstrap, and I should have a video review ready soon.

There are some well documented issues at the moment with iRacing and Season 3 when used with VR. No one is really sure what the answer is, but if you look on the iRacing VR forum section, you can find a thread where a few solutions are given. Basically, use OPenXR if you can, and see if that helps, but as it stands at the moment, some of the sim racers have not been able to find a solution to these performance issues.

Hi, That's an interesting question and my honest answer is I am not sure. I would say, expand the chat window (little arrow in the bottom right of the chat box) and take a screenshot of the whole thing and try sending that. If iRacing reject it, try creating a video. Try it, and see what iRacing will accept. Let me know how it turns out.

A screenshot would be helpful, but they don't even need that. They keep the chats, so you can just report it and specify what they said that wasn't alright, and they can check the chat logs

@@clouds5 Go for it. As I said in the review, a DD wheel is a nice to have feature, but it's not going to give you that much fun, or make you a better driver. I wouldn't go back to a non-DD wheel, but that's mostly because I have not got used to the level of detail I get from the DD. For the money, I think the best investment I made was load cell pedals and a rig.

It does look mega interesting and I hope to get involved with LFM soon.

@OlderGamersPerspective yes, but with how established LFM is with AC1 and how established the moding comunity is with AC1 It will probably take a while for Evo to get traction with the comunity, unless it has a very good online match making system out of the gate, I don't expect alot

Yeah, that was pretty much my experience. Let me know how the settings I suggest work out for you, remember this should be treated as a starting point.

It certainly has. I really still want a proper career mode, but as it is now, I still think it's a great sim.

I have dabbled with 120hz, but at the moment iRacing seems to be suffering some performance issues since season 3, in particular with VR, so I have been sticking with 90. But from what I remember, the recharge rate was a lot worse at 120Hz, through the USB cable, but the display was smoother for not too much of a hit on the GPU. Some hit, of course, but not radical. But those tests were made before Season 3 hit.

@@stevej2344 Short answer; No! Long answer, it depends on the track, the amount of drivers, the types of cars and the weather. But mostly I have found the performance of iRacing has dropped dramatically after the season 3 update, and worse still, no one at iRacing seems to either be doing anything to solve the issue, or even acknowledge there is a problem. New tracks like Navarra often offer very poor performance, with track details popping in and dropping FPS even if it's just a rookie race with 12 cars. It is all very disappointing. I've managed to get some performance back using OpenXR, but on the horizon is an update to the Meta PC link app which could break the usage of OpenXR, and if that happens, I will probably have to revert to 72Hz. If that doesn't work, me and iRacing may have to part ways. Sorry for the rant, I hope this answers your question.

There is a menu option in the headset that can be toggled on to auto connect the headset to the Void when a cable is detected, but it's only as far as the void, not the PC monitor or a steam type overlay. But yeah, your idea would be neat. Sadly meta don't seem very active on pc connect stuff as they seem to favour the standalone stuff.

Hi, yes this issue has been reported by a number of simracers on my discord channel. Pop over there if you so the discord thing. Sooooo, don't quote me on this, but it has been rumoured that iRacing are aware of some performance, issues and are working on a fix. In the meantime, do you have the option to lower your refresh rate to 72hz?

Thanks. I can lower to 60fps.. at 60fps i dont have fps drops but os not so smooth.. some flickering like the sky.. i hope they fix that

Excellent. Have fun with them. They do take a bit of time to sort out, and configure, and that does sometimes feel like a never ending story, but they are super fun :)

I have tried the narration while I drive thing, I did a livestream a few weeks back that you can check out on my livestream area, but getting my brain to do two different things doesn't seem such a good idea for this older gamer, but maybe I just need practice :)

Indeed, and I have started to do that, tweaking each car to the settings it needs and saving it as a separate profile. It does feel very rewarding, and I will keep at it. The thing I try to be careful of is not spending so long on the profiles that I run out of time to actually race :)

i had them on my v3s also and they are weak, you can barely feel it.. i got sprints now and put the HPR from simagic on my brake and its WAAAAY more accurate than anything else ive tried.

I will give these settings a try and see what they look like, Sounds ideal for anyone suffering from performance issues, in VR, in the rain for example. I suffer at the moment from a drop in frame rates when on the grid with more than 30 cars, so this will be something I will dial in later today and see if it helps. Thank you for the tip.

@@OlderGamersPerspective the best numbers may vary, depending on your IPD, distance to screen and your individual device, but using the same method as I did, you'll certainly find some setting which will give you max performance boost without any loss. The only thing I hate is having to input the numbers again every single session, I'd like to be able to save them so I could set and forget.

I think someone commented here that Authentic is for oval racing, and so if you use that in road racing, nothing is said. But that being said, I think crew chief is the better bet for spotter mode.

Hi, glad to hear you are getting a 4070Super. Enjoy :) Just so you are aware, 6 days ago, the meta app updated and now the maximum most people can set 90Hz to is 1.5x. At 72hz it's now 1.3x and at 120Hz it's 1.7x. This various from user to user, so possibly not everyone has seen the update yet. Or possibly their system reacts differently. This change is too new to be able to tell for sure either way just yet. @@OlderGamersPerspective hi, thanks! 90Hz still goes all the way to 1.7 here. Maybe they're updating only the multiplier but resolutions are still the same? It always seemed like an arbitrary number to me.

In an update to this video I found some more performance in the 4070 super. And if I have performance issues (rain/cough/rain) then I drop to 72Hz.

That's a good idea. I use OBS, and I also use the direct recording in the headset, although that does sometimes appear off centre, mostly I think because the headset can only record one eye or the other. But I can put together a tutorial and show how I get the footage I get.

But just to be clear. Which headset and which SIM are you trying to capture?

yeah that was the issue I found, I could only pick one eye. I'm using a Quest 3 and playing iRacing 👍🏻

If you are having performance issues, 72Hz is my go-to solution for helping to ease those issues. I personally don't see much difference between 72 and 90, but I know a lot of people prefer 90 so that's why I slanted the video towards that refresh rate. The trade off is slightly less smoothness during fast paced areas of the race, but if you can live with it, it is worth doing.

@@sparkfire1223 Please do, the oculus debug tool is one of those hidden delights for the Meta headsets and can open up a whole load of options. Both graphical and for optimisations.

I have actually been using it since Season 3 started and I was encountering some issues on the grid with more than 35 cars. Someone suggested turning it on and it does seem to have helped with this issue. I too am using Reflex + Boost. However, some users have encountered issues with this setting, causing lots of frame drops, so it does seem to work for some systems, but not for others.

@@OlderGamersPerspective in the AMS2 settings. But its only possible if you own a 4090. It needs a lot GPU Power. Withvmy 4080 i have to leave it on 1.0

Are you going to play these games via steam or as standalone on the headset? For steam, the upgrade to a 4070S will help, but there are other factors you need to take into account, such as how you are connected to your PC, and how powerful the rest of the PC is.

It's a solid move, but you will need something to mount it on, either a wheel stand or a rig. I know people who use this with a deskmount, but it's not something I would recommend. Especially if you are going to use it in combination with a load cell pedal. It takes time to adapt from a belt driven wheel to a direct drive, but it's worth the effort.

@@OlderGamersPerspective Thanks for your feedback. I will mount on a desk, I don't have space to install a rig for example. The pedal is propped up on the wall.

I'm afraid I have never used this combination, although Thrustmaster tend to use similar connections across their range, probably to save money, so I would say you have a chance, but order from somewhere that offers a good returns policy.

Hello fellow Older Gamer :) Glad to hear you are making the switch to PC AND VR. That's going to make a dramatic difference to your immersion in the sim. I have the slider set all the way over to the right in the meta app, so for me that 1.5x, but it might say something different for you. Best to start off at 72hz, with the slide in the middle, then if you are not seeing frame drops, you can push it to the right a bit at time and retest. Don't forget you can also alter the Oculus Debug tool. There is another video in my library on how to adjust this for better visual clarity. Also check out the Discord video I made, it has a link to the Older gamer discord channel where you will find a knowledgeable group of people who can offer any help you might need. AMS2 is a bit more demanding than some sims, but you should be good with the system you have. best of luck.

Currently I managed to run 90Hz and nearly all settings to very high (except the usual suspects: Shadow, Reflection, Particle). But running at a little lower resolution (close to native resolution). I haven’t made up my mind/tested if I go for Hz or resolution. 😊 But your tipp using the performance gpu headroom helps massively. I’ll check your Discord. Happy racing

Hey there, epic journey, sounds similar to my own :) Coming from the T300, I found the R9 to be more than enough, and still is, and I rarely run it at full force feedback, I just don't feel I have to. I am not sure about the R5 versus the R9, as I haven't tried them both, but from what I have read, you should still get a good experience with the R5. The R12 is expensive, no doubt about it, but all depends on how much power you need or want. I have never had any problems with overheating on the R9, and as far as I can see that hasn't affected all users. If you run the R9 with a lot of force feedback, it can get warm, but as I say, I don't ever feel the need to do that. I prefer my steering to give me road feedback and texture, I don't want it to rip my arms off when I am going round a corner. But others may disagree with me. It's a personal thing really. So, you ordered the R9 with the load cell pedals? That's going to be a good combination, And combined with your rig, you will get a good experience, but you need to spend sometime setting it up, getting Pithouse to work as you want (don't forget to calibrate it once the wheel is fitted), and then you need to adapt to a direct drive wheel, which can take some time after using a belt driven wheel, but it is worth the effort.
