I am a new driver who just joined iRacing two weeks ago. I went through the onboarding and I agree with your assessment. It's pretty basic and gives you very little detail as on how any of it works. I did do a lot of reading outside of the onboarding to get somewhat situated. I can see how the onboarding and initial learning curve can be steep for many and maybe abandon the sim straight out of the gate.
I would agree with this. I attempted iRacing at least three times before I finally got into it, and the system it uses clicked with me. It's not too difficult to understand, but there are some frustrations that can be encountered along the way, and as you say, this can cause new users to quit early on. Mostly for that reason, I found this onboarding to be a disappointment as I thought it might address some of those issues, which it does, but only by directing the user to a PDF checklist, which is real minimal effort. Hopefully they will add more features to it in the future.
Really like your video series! I have recently started driving on iRacing, bought a Quest 3 and upgraded my GPU to a 4070, and you have given me a lot of valuable information! One topic I find frustrating is what 3rd party overlay software to use (if any). Would like to have a track map, radar and relative/standings with more detail. Are you using Racelabs?

I have used Racelabs on some of my videos, but only when using the iracing Replay function, for VR it seems a little trickier, but it something I have been meaning to look into. I think the problem lies mostly with the Quest system and how it connects with VR, which makes VR a bit tricky, so I will investigate and hopefully, if I am successful, I will release a video with some details on how to do it.
