S6 Ep 15 - Ferry Santander to Portsmouth with dogs - The final leg
This week we set off from Ona in Northern Spain for a short journey to Frias. Frias is the smallest city in Spain and stands on top of a crag with a very impressive castle seamlessly built onto the crag. We did a 8k walk to Tobera to see the monastery and waterfalls.
We left Frias and as the weather was better than expected we changed our minds and took the scenic route down heading towards the northern coast of Spain. This was a mistake as we hadn’t checked the map and there was a big descent for a long period of time. Despite stopping to let the brakes cool down we still hit trouble. Sensing it was time to stop again Dave only just managed to bring the motorhome to a halt before both th...

S6 Ep 14 Burgos and Ona

This week we head from Riaza to stop in Burgos. This is probably one of the most impressive cathedrals we have seen, absolutely stunning and massive. It is well worth a trip to Burgos. We stayed in the free aire in the city and it was fairly quiet (although it was November). From here we headed your the hills to a small town called Ona. The town itself with the monastery is impressive but the w...

This week we head off in the motorhome from Viso Del Marques to Aranjuez. This ACSI campsite had been recommended to us by a friend. As it was nearing the end of November most facilities (except the shower block were shut) so we didn’t get a full experience but it was located close to the town and the Royal Palace. Unfortunately dogs weren’t allowed in the gardens adjacent to the campsite but t...

This week finds us in Tavira on the Algarve. This is our last stop before heading back into Spain in our motorhome. We spent a few days on the aire close to the town and it was a scorcher. This week we are at Alvor, which we absolutely fell in love with. Not only does this town on the Algarve in Portugal have a dog friendly beach but also many bars and restaurants. Each day we walked the dogs along the boardwalk to the stunning golden sandy beach. Unfortunately the waves were ‘too’ large for the dogs to paddle as they were frightened of the waves but they did enjoy getting to the...

Hi - the ferry cost €364.10 from Greece to Italy and we left around 5pm and arrived at around 10am. We did the camping on board option which we found fine but our friends didn’t get a good night sleep as it also docks in igouminista to pick up other vehicles and they were parked closer to the rear and also on the edge and it did get a bit rough sailing across.

Patras to Bari - it was the same price igouminista to Bari. It was out of season (right at the end of October) and we booked it a couple of weeks before - I know a couple of weeks to sail beforehand they were fully booked and presumably price would be higher and not sure if they run throughout the winter months.

Hi we generally try to get to the warmth of Spain as quick as possible when we go Feb/March time (and also sometimes meet up with our friends so have little time to wander down through France). On our return leg we spend time meandering through France and use the smaller roads so it depends on what we are doing.

However when it’s later in the day, as it goes dark the ferry slows, it was in fact a 51/2 hour crossing. There were also way more motorhomes on board than ever before and we had only earmarked the Dieppe ferry. So the stresses just kept on coming.

Great video! I have been using a regular trailer covered. I guess the only issue with open trailer would be the dog might get some dirt on his eyes from the rear tire. As I travelled with my dog, I noticed on a rainy day or dirt road, he had to deal with splash/dirt from rear tire unless he faces backward. Other than that, the single wheel trailer can be a lot more safer on corners! Thank you for the video!

Thank you. We got her some doggles to protect her eyes and she didn’t mind wearing them at all. We all loved if for a year or so and better for narrower trails. However, We now use the burley tail wagon with added suspension for both dogs as I had an accident and no longer felt safe enough to manage the single wheel trailer. Great for smaller dogs but under 18kg but a bit more of a handful for 20+kg dogs I decided following non bike related accident and injury. Added suspension for the trailer is a must for us Enjoy biking with your dog
