  • In this series we head off to the land of milk and honey - or more well known as Spain.
This episode sees us traveling from New Haven to Dieppe via the ferry. We stay overnight for free in the car park at New Haven to catch the early ferry across to Dieppe.
As it was an early crossing we landed and disembarked in France and headed down south. We had anticipated at staying overnight at Chartres but we were not too happy with the free spot and as the roads had been quiet and the sun was shining we carried on further.
We actually stayed at the camping car park aire at Chateaudun and had a quick look around the town. We were unable to find any shops but the Chateau was very large and impressive. We had a quiet night sleep and had EHU which was good for the heating overnight as temperatures were low.
From here we headed down and made good progress again due to the roads being quiet and the sun shining. We again stayed at Rochefoucauld camping car park aire. A quick overnight stop and a stroll around the lovely town (we have been there before so check out this video • S3 Ep 2 France down to...
We also saw the same gentlemen and their dog on the Tadoire river in the same spot - how spooky.
From here we went around the ever so slow journey of Bordeaux over to the coast. We stopped at an aire called Flot le Bleu in Ondres which has an amazing golden sandy beach which stretches for what seems like forever.
So 3 nights and we have made the bottom of France ready to venture across to Spain in day 4.
The roads have been really good to drive (apart from around Bordeaux) and the weather sunny with blue skies but very cold.
Next week we travel through the North of Spain heading South to the Costa del Sol.

It was great to follow your journey from the UK, through France. The site you stayed at looked ok but my favourite clip was the dogs running free on that beautiful beach. You could see how excited they were😊

I think we were as excited to have a ‘run around’ having driven for long time each day to get there

Always good to be out exploring and definitely the beach was needed to stretch the legs and feel the wind on your face after driving for hours each day

can I ask why you use the motorways ? the A {N} roads are great and traffic free generally

Hi we generally try to get to the warmth of Spain as quick as possible when we go Feb/March time (and also sometimes meet up with our friends so have little time to wander down through France). On our return leg we spend time meandering through France and use the smaller roads so it depends on what we are doing.

Great question. Using the motorways is an expensive mistake. To do the distances shown on this video using the N roads would have been easy. No red traffic jams either.

@@davidmatthews3093 agree non motorway routes are better and we try to avoid them on the return leg. We do use the n10 which is a great road and we have previously done the d910 but all the roundabouts put us off that route. Each time is an adventure so welcome suggestions.

How difficult was it to obtain an EU Pet passport for your dogs ? Maybe you can do a video on it.

Hi we got their eu pet passport originally whilst in Spain. Booked appointment with vets in Nerja who spoke English fairly well. Took about half hour max for the two dogs. You just need an address to give them to put on the passport (we used family’s address who live out there so this was easy for us but I know others have used the campsite where they were staying as an address). The rabies vaccine was only for a year so we renewed it when in Germany for 3 year vaccination. Again really easy just booked and took dogs - in and out within 15 mins. I recall both times being about 30 euros per dog. I think it is more difficult to get an eu pet passport in France though as the dog I believe need to be registered. I have also heard that most Spanish vets will issue the passport and done do provide the 3 year vaccine but further south in Spain the less likely to have 3 year one

Technically the dog needs to have been in the EU for more than 90 days. Some vets buck the system and you always stand the chance of being taken to task either entering or leaving the Schengen zone.

Just started watching your videos and i am sorry to say that after just one video i do not like the continuous music in the back ground it sometimes over powers your voice as your mikes are not the best, sorry to be so negative but wanted to give some feedback as i had high hopes for your channel

Thank you for getting in touch and for watching. We welcome feedback and in series 5 we were trying out saramonic mikes but unfortunately they kept cutting out on us and we were not impressed.
We have since switched to DJI mic so hopefully voice sound will improve but as yet not out to test as having computer issues (laptop definitely my fault as I had not stored it when travelling in the van and it shot across from rear to front and smashed 🤦‍♀️) the other is unresponsive at present but trying hard to get it fixed).
      All the best
