Maybe if you are on a 65 inch screen 4k might make sense but on a 34 inch or smaller screen I see no point in using 4k, 1440p is perfect. Oh and BTW, the 4080 Super is really a 2k card all day long. I'll take high frames over bogus RT any day.

Haha.. You are not alone in thinking you suffer from Ray tracing blindness. The only game I have seen to date that really shines with RT is Doom Eternal. If you have not tried it you will be pleasantly surprised. BTW, I am using a 12600k with my 4080 Super and love it in 1440p.

What people dont get to see here is. The textures, pop in, softening and even artifacts. The ram does allow for tectures to load in better when moving. Peoppe think its all on the vram and its not true! With my eyes i notice it. I even had it happen on wukong today with a freinds 16gb changed to 32 no more graphical issues. Just saying! Its not just about fps lol. Its also about the game you test and how its utilizing it. Its why some devs recdomend more some less even if one uses more they may have developed it to rely on ram and apread out ram usage more across vram and ram.

I got 4080s and 5800x3D, playing in 3440x1440 I don't consider my GPU to be overkill, not at all.

i have a 7900 xt and without raytracing it is mostly the same performance as a 4080, i can run raytracing on 1440 but get into the low 60s/ high 50s which can be boosted with upscaling. Im satisfied with my results

depending what level of performance are you expecting the rtx 4080 with a top of the line cpu can crush 60fps in all games at respectable setting in 4k.

You should have done more tests in 1080p, 1440p is more demanding on the GPU and not a particularly good way to test CPU performance.

i dont use a monitor i use a 4 k tv so anything above 60 fps is wasted :D

People really underestimate how important 1%/0.1 low are. This is where to look at if you wanna see if something is running smoothly. So while the average can be the same with both CPU, if you get 15/20 more fps in the 1%low, it means the game is running better (much better actually).

Should I buy a 4k monitor if I get the 4080 super with 7800x3D? Worry about having to downscale to 1440p gaming if the fps is bad. I just want average 60-90 fps with ray tracing and high settings only, no ultra. I play all game genres. Which monitor should I get? 1440p vs 4k OLED for this gpu if I want 70+ fps on all games at high settings no ultra?

I play Cyberpunk 2077 with regular RTX 4080 in 1440p DLSS Quality, Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction RT Overdrive aka. Path Tracing and get 100 fps or more. Also I love to switch the DLSS dll files from Techpowerup now I use DLSS Super Resolution 3.7.20, DLSS Frame Gen 3.7.10 and RR 3.7.10.

I have two monitors for my 4080 - LG 27GR95QE-B and recently a aw3225qf. I have actually put in a return submission for the aw32 simply because after a weekend of testing 4k over 1440p I wasn’t entirely happy with performance. It wasn’t terrible, it looks amazing - but I am worried about future proofing my pc because I won’t be upgrading anytime soon and I know my setup will run anything pretty much maxed out at 1440p, where as with 4k it’s a gamble and reliant on DLSS.

My personal thought is that 90 fps would give you a very enjoyable experience in most of the game. Chasing for 100+ fps is too costly and unnecessary.

got i5-12400f with 4070super. Similar experience, everything is very smooth at 1440p. Been thinking to get a better cpu... but nah, just fine at the moment.

Can someone explain to me why these cards can't play games at 4k native but cost $1k and more? Nvidia and AMD are relying on software and RT cores to get the FPS into the upper ranges on these games, but what happened to just having the fastest card without all the gimmicks! If i were to compare it to cars, it would be a comparing a v8 to a Turbo 4 or 6! Is it so bad to want a card that cost half of my rent payment to just be the baddest, "fastest" S.O.B in the neighborhood or in my computer for this purpose that will play any game at 4k 60 and above without the 8 or 10sp automatic and AWD to help it?

I have a 4090 and run 1440. I just don’t see the point of 4K, unless you’re playing on a 40+ inch monitor or tv. Even on my 34 inch ultrawide, I cant see a difference. The performance hit is SO big jumping up to 4k, not worth it yet imo.

Back in 2016, gtx 1070 was a 1440p card. I bet the next 6 years, 4080 will take the same fate.

8GB of vram is still good up to 2k resolution, 4k forget about it, also depends on settings as well.

RX6800 and RTX 3070/4060ti 16gb are the limit for 5600X, anything above will be bottlenecked and wasted money.

I bought it for 1440p monitor with EVERY game turned down to LOW settings. Sometimes I even use it on 1080p - 250 FPS IS NOT ENOUGH. I came from a generation where in cod2 i had like 333 stable. On the other hand I have a 240HZ monitor which I need to power.

Im using the rtx3060 on a 1440p 165hz monitor if you can believe it. It has freesync and tbh the gpu holds up well.

Honestly, I'd rather look at those 1% and 0.1% lows for this undervolt, while undervolting didn't change much for the AVG FPS, it certainly helped keep the FPS much closer to the average, which says a lot for frame skipping, means we would see little to no frame skips, where keeping it stock meant you'll notice those frame drops

If you playing 4K 60fps, then there is no bottleneck, or any other resolutions, if 60fps locked. Although, if you planning to play at 1080p while you have 4080 Super lol, then most likely you wouldn't have 5600X on the board neither 😂

Its like 10000% wort it. You get extreme high performance with the 5800x3D and pairing ability up to a 4080. The 5600 already bottlenecks the 4070.

My 5700x3d just arrived today. I’ll be upgrading from a 1600, so it’s a massive improvement, but it’ll be interesting seeing how much of a difference it makes in different games.

Okay You probably saved me few hundreds bucks. I have similar system (5800x3d, 2x16gb ram,etc.) and I was thinking about upgrading my 1440p TN monitor to 4K Oled, 240hz panel and my RX6800XT to 4080, but holly …. I didnt realized that 4K gaming is so taxing compared to 1440p that even 4080 struggle to play some games at 4K natively without upscalers. Well I will reconsider this. I will either buy 4K monitor now and wait for rtx 5080 or buy rtx 4080 + UW 1440p high refresh rate panel now.

That extra 4gigs this card is missing is what is keeping it from being 'the to go' card

i have tested the same but with a more powerful gpu: r5 5600x@rtx 4070 ti sup vs r7 5800x3d@rtx 4070 ti sup and i see more difference between 5600x vs 5800x3d. so i think the rtx 3070 is not enough to stress the 5800x3d. in fact, rtx 4070 ti sup draw more fps with the 5800x3d than 5600x

Nope , there are no true 4k cards even the 4090. I own a 4080 s, when you can run native 4k above 120 in all games without "features" that will be a true 4k card.
