Will The AMD 5600X Bottleneck A High End GPU in 2024?

  • Will a 5600X bottleneck a high end GPU, like a 4080 Super for high end gaming in 2024? We compare across a range of titles and settings the differences in performance between a 5600X and a 5800X3D when paired with an nvidia 4080 Super.
    Don't be alarmed if some footage appears judders, this is due to me capturing the footage on a separate pc via an HDMI capture card. The card captures at 60fps, therefore if the game framerate exceeds or is below 60fps, it can look a bit weird!

Gre won't make a difference in my opinion as your games are heavy relying on your cpu. 5600x in 1080p bottlenecks even 7800xt. It will hold back your 7900gre like it's Something in between 7700xt and 7800xt. So get the 7700xt now instead and also upgrade your cpu like pretty soon If not now cause u have money. For fortnite get Nvidia. For cod mandatory AMD. For counterstrike upgrade your cpu fast.
      For single players also AMD. 5800x3d still a king of cpu for next years it barely bottlenecks 4080s i don't like 5700x3d as its just a worse bining of 5800x3d.
      Also If You can find a 3080ti used for around 400€ don't think as it is an older gpu is a potent gpu that can be bought on Nice money. It's like a 4070/4070s but with Nice connector that won't burn your PC. Takes a 750w gold psu.

  • @Greenalex89
    @Greenalex89 2 месяца назад +3

    As always, if ur on AM4 already, an upgrade might be worth it, if u encounter bottlenecks or stutters (Id probably go for a 5600x3D or 5700x3D if available). If not, go for AM5 or wait for the 9000 series even.
    I own a 5800x3D paired with a 7900xtx nitro+ and I got it especially for Star Citizen back then, which benefits a ton from the extra V-cache (I had a 5600G, 5500 basically, bought it during the insane mining times). Additionally all the micro stutters in some other games were gone and FPS is general are very stable with the 5800x3D.

AM4 is not dead. 5700X3D/5800X3D rivals AM5 R5 7600x and R7 7700X for gaming performance specifically. i'm always curious as to the decision to include titles like "starfield" and "gray zone warfare" in a test like this, as both seem to be relatively unoptimized - especially in regards to cpu performance. it almost feels like you are testing the game's performance more than the performance of the cpu in-game, if that makes any sense. i know starfield has received some updates to help with this, but it still seems like typical "bethesda optimization." games like fh5, cs2, & cp2077 make more sense to me since they tend to utilize given resources in a more predictable - and often consistently scalable - manor. other than showing real-world application for sake of user expectation, is there any benefit in a cpu test to use those two specific games, or am i missing something (which is absolutely possible)?
    thanks for the content, i really am appreciative - even when i have what might be considered dumb questions, lol.

    People should not forget the cheaper 5700X3D option as well. There is also 5600X3D, but that cpu is a rare one. But if 5600X3D was actually easy to get, i think that cpu could be an incredable cpu for gaming. NOt as fast af 5700X3D/5800X3D. But that 3D cashe does matter in games alone.

    Does the x3d cpu really matter when you use a 4K 60Hz monitor or are the extra frames just wasted anyway at 4K?

    • @davidnott_
      @davidnott_  2 месяца назад +1

      If you’re targeting 60fps, I’d be paying more attention to the 1% lows and 0.1% lows, trying to get them as close to 60 as possible too. There’s a school of thought with competitive titles that more than 60fps has a benefit even when using a 60hz monitor as the frames you see are newer frames, but I think you’re really splitting hairs at that point, as if you really cared about competitiveness you’d be on a high refresh display

      i'd say no. But as someone who went from a 1080p 60hz display to a 1080p 165hz you will feel difference in smoothness on most games. Some games will play smoother the higher the framerate, But others (mostly 2d games) I saw zero difference. I also played on a 280hz display but couldn't feel much difference from a 165hz

    I game 4K quality upscale 6950XT and 5600 clocked at 5600X speed. I'm almost always GPU bottlenecked so I'm not buying the 5800X3D. If I start seeing GPU usage less than 90% in games then maybe...but I always see 95+% GPU usage for now.

    • @davidnott_
      @davidnott_  2 месяца назад

      Yeah at 4K you’re much less likely to feel a CPU bottleneck

    I don't buy top end GPU's, haven't since the 980Ti. That cost me £580 (trade price, I got a deal) and just five months later, Nvidias website said that they no longer optmize for my card beyond "critical fixes and updates". So I gave up on Nvidia AND on buying top end GPU's.
    I currently have a Ryzen 2600 and a 5700XT. After a lot of benchmark reading etc, settled on an upgrade path of a 7800XT and a 5600X3D or 5700X3D. I play at 1440p on a 42" LG OLED TV and I mostly play older games. Newer games I can drop to 1080p on the 5700XT, but I don't see a problem there with a 7800XT.
    I upgrade economically, best value I can find for what I need.

    Star field needs to be taken off benchmarks since it’s such a poor engine to allocate power to either cpu or gpu; its the engine being the bottleneck or limiter when it has poor utilization all around

    Tldw. My 5900x did bottlenecked my 4080. I'm pretty sure 5600 will too. I would guess its due to memory bandwidth limit of am4.

    The CPU Ryzen 5 5600x perfectly handling RTX 4080 for 1440p+ resolution gaming. I wouldn't suggest anyone to buy this monster for 1080p gaming, it will be overkill for it. I think that my Ryzen 5 5600 (non x variant) will handle it pretty good for 1440p gaming.

    New 5600x on ebay $110, new 5800x3d is $280. I'd like to see a comparison between a 5800x3d / 4070 Ti Super and 5600x / 4080 super for nearly the same price. I believe 5600x with 4080 super would have better performance.
