Dont miss this shallow winter bite!
#winterfishing #bassfishing #jigfishing Winter fishing can be challenging. Fish tend to go deeper or suspend depending on the weather. However, there is always a population of fish that are shallow. We nay need to change our approach to get them to bite, but they will bite if you do the right things.

I can relate to all your old school methods, but like you, I try to stay current with newer trends (Scoping, jig head minnows, etc.-). Thanks for helping me feel relevant at this age and not alone in my memories. I can think back to my earlier days and remember winning tournaments with a split shot on Clearlake! Keep up the great work even if the memory loses a word occasionally. Thanks.

    I was a co angler in a BASS open in Florida many years ago. The pro I was with Dead Sticked a 6 inch black texas rigged worm in lily pad openings. He would let the worm sit there for up to and over five minutes. He caught a 27 pound bag that day. I couldn’t believe it. I started dead sticking behind him and caught two over 6. It works. I believe in a non tournament situation, an angler could pull up to an excellent location, then anchor, or put the power poles down, and cast out several rods in many directions and dead stick several rods at once. I believe this was a mid 1950’s technique used in Florida by early Bass anglers with the first plastic worms.

      Mike it sounds fun and a great content idea. Roseville is about 3 hours towing a boat. The only real issue I see is the mussel issue. I’d like to say let’s do Berryessa but that whole thing is a mess currently. If you have a solution let me know.

    • @MikeDiCarlo-b6e

      @ yea this mussel thing is creating some logistical issues for sure. Although up where I live none of the lakes have any restrictions as of yet. Folsom, Camp Far West, Rollins and Oroville are all in my range. I’m not sure what’s going on at Don Pedro, New Melones or McClure.

      I use an FG knot on all of my braid to leader connections. I have many types of braid currently rigged and use the same knot always. I use a knot assist tool which helps me tie a great knot, it’s small , tight and strong. Leader length is typically 2-2.5 wing spans for me (about 15ft).

    • @TheAverageAngler
      @TheAverageAngler 2 дня назад

      I never had a wind buster. Irod and Megabass are made in the same factory so I think you would find these to be very similar in actions. I was planning on using the Irod Air 722 myself. However I think the 731 may be closer to the wind buster , although it’s 4 inches longer and a little slower action. It’s really just personal preference for the free rig. The 722 is very similar to the Shakey head rod I have from Megabass.

      If you order off his site you can choose between a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. He also has a YT channel where you can see him tie jigs and catch fish with them. You can also mix colors as you wish.

      @ a really snack snized small, hand tied jig with a great hook is hard to find. Being this is rubber skirting seems like the cherry on top. Thanks for mentioning this, looking forward to trying them.

    Shhhhhh...................................Don't give these youngsters all our secrets, lol Hands down still my #1 confidence bait, 12 months a year. Don't be fooled this technique does catch big fish as well. It has caught me several fish over 6lbs., with my largest going 9.87lbs.

    I’ve become a fan of iRod when I bought my dedicated frog rod (Quercus Bobby’s Perfect Frog Rod, Jr). Then, I was looking for a swim rod and got the Quercus Sniper Swim. Couldn’t be happier with them. Would love for them to make a BFS rod cuz I know that’ll be an awesome one.

      They have a new line of rods due out anytime. Not sure if that will be included or not.

    I think there’s an old video of Gary Klein winning some big tournament at Clear Lake in the 80’s with the dart head in Corinthian Bay. It was very very cold. He said he was fishing the old Clear Lake shoreline which was in about 7 feet of water then. Lots of dead sticking. Slow fishing. Dart head shined. 👍🏻

      I drew his brother Steve on Oroville and he put on a clinic with it. He used it to get his kicker fish.

    I can’t even remember the last time I used this technique 😂😂😂. I think I have some in one of my older tackle boxes so maybe I’ll give it a shot next time I’m on the water. Either way thank you for the video Sean, this was definitely an interesting one and I’m always looking forward to your next video. Have a great week and as always tight lines !!!
