9:34 you can have these great toilet seats in Bali LXR Umana for 85k Hilton points (all suites)
I have 280k in avios and can never find a flight. I’m sick of it and thinking of closing out my BA card and walking away from those points. I would love a vid on how to use them. 😊❤
Looking forward to redeeming 4 IHG free night certificates at Kimpton Maa Lai Bangkok next week. It looks really nice. Sign up bonus for the card came with 5 certificates.
Can you tell me how you prepaid the $200 with your Aspire card? Was the resort ok with that?
Hi! Serena covered this in Episode 49 What's in Our Wallet. See time stamp 18:50. The resort was okay with it!
I get value out of IHG One Rewards, am getting 4th night free at Kimpton Gray Chicago later this year.
That's awesome to hear! The IHG One Rewards program can really enhance your travel experience, especially with perks like the 4th night free. Enjoy your stay at the Kimpton Gray! Hopefully there will be a Kimpton secret password you can use when you check in!
@ It worked out to 1 CPP but I used pts that I purchased for half a cent. Family of 4, great way to save on road trip from NYC to Windy City.
Great deal!!!
I actually really enjoy IHG status and its credit card moved me from a cash back setup now to a hybrid travel emphasized strategy with my credit cards. Before the COVID-19 pandemic I had IHG Diamond status organically due to a training program where I stayed a few months in a Staybridge suites for the duration of my training. I then held that status for a few years due to extensions of status due to the pandemic. I generally do an anniversary trip each year at an Intercontinental even before I had the credit card so I was really familiar with the program. I get almost as much benefit from Platinum status as I do with Diamond status so I am happy with holding Platinum status as my base status for IHG. While I never transfer my Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to IHG I get a good amount of points from my paid stays and can take advantage of the 100% bonus sales buying points for half a cent a point. I like using my IHG points at hotels like the Intercontinental and with the fourth night free I usually get at least a point per cent of value that I would have been spending anyway. IHG is the first hotel chain I will look at in an area in part because of the status. When planning road trips IHG is particularly strong with their Holliday Inn and Holliday Inn Express brands that I regularly find to be relatively inexpensive, clean, and convenient as a baseline in quality that I do not like going under. I do not stay at IHG exclusively where I spend my Chase Ultimate Rewards Points generally on Hyatt stays, domestic airline partners and in the travel portal. I have Marriot Gold status due to a status challenge from my Chase Sapphire Reserve and Hilton Silver status from my cooperate American Express card. Status definitely has an impact when it comes to planning my hotel stays.
Another week, another great pod. Hilton - Diamond and believe it or not I stayed 71 nights this past year so I made Diamond organically however we hold the Aspire and leverage that card to bring us incredible stays and experiences everywhere we go. Last year alone my family or I stayed at Hilton Da Nang, Conrad Tokyo, Conrad Singapore, Hilton Kyoto, Hilton Miyakojima, Hilton Sesoko, Curio New Orleans, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Curio San Diego. This year we might slow it down as we have a mega trip planned for Australia and New Zealand, but who knows. lol Marriott - Gold status and stayed a couple of nights last year on business. IHG - Platinum Elite through the United Club CC and stayed (5) nights this past year at two Intercontinentals and those were phenomenal stays. Truth be told I would chase IHG status before I even consider Hyatt Hyatt - Member and stayed at (1) last year (Grand Hyatt) Incheon. Nice hotel but terribly overpriced. Payed $90 for a dinner buffet 😱. If I am forced to stay at a Hyatt for any strange reason and I accumulate any type of points through them, I transfer them out to United as I rather lose value in those points then be forced to plan a stay at a Hyatt…lol
Hi Carlos! Wow, it sounds like you've had an amazing year of travel! Your experiences at all those Hilton properties must have been unforgettable. 71 nights is certainly impressive! Hope your mega trip to Australia and New Zealand is just as incredible! Which Intercontinentals did you stay at? Please tell us more about those phenomenal stays. We are very curious.
@ Intercontinental Manza Beach Resort (Okinawa); stayed here for my birthday. It’s an amazing spot on Okinawa with an incredible view. Tons of things to do and the restaurants were great. Intercontinental Ishigaki; was also an extended weekend stay. Phenomenal location; kid friendly with dedicated kids pool. (9) restaurants on site and tons of things to do on the resort or on the island itself. Only thing I am missing is that Ambassador pass that was mentioned on the pod. Any links or information as I plan to stay at (2) or (3) Intercontinental’s this year for weekend trips.
Hi Carlos! IHG Ambassador costs 224 for the year or 45k points and only applicable on Intercontinental stays. Google IHG Ambassador Program and you'll see the details at the bottom of the page. Sorry YT doesn't allow us to include links here. It comes with lots of perks so hopefully you can make use of them! You speak so highly of the ones in Japan, we need to add those to our list!
I am a globalist and this is the first I’ve heard of a concierge number. Where would I find that number. Also, it is not listed as a globalist Benedict.
Hi! When you reach 60 elite nights, My Hyatt Concierge is a milestone reward. This benefit is not available with any fast track. Here is the Hyatt number if you want to ask about concierge services: 888-544-9288
Thank you so much! I’ve never noticed that as a benefit before! I guess I always just took the Free night award. Keep up the great work! I love listening to all of you!
We're glad we were able to help out!
I’ve never had real hotel status beyond what comes with AMEX Platinum, which usually just means a bottle of water and maybe late checkout lol. You’ve given me a lot to think about! Since it’s usually just me (and maybe one other person), free breakfast is helpful but I can take or leave that…upgrades have my attention though. I usually stick to room blocks or whatever’s close, but I’m intrigued by Hyatt-transferring CC points there seems super valuable and perks once you start hitting status seem great. I’m going to focus on Hyatt this year and see how far I can go with status! PS +1 vote for a Vegas meetup lol 🎲🃏
Hi Tamika! We're glad to know you're willing to attend a Vegas meetup! We'll consider it! For Hyatt, they do have a great elite program. If you find yourself booking a Hyatt with a club lounge, please let us know and one of us might be able to gift you a club access award so you can enjoy the club lounge for breakfast and afternoon happy hour. A special gift for those who have submitted video questions to us in the past.
Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind…y’all are the best!
I have two IHG stays in Thailand this summer! Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok via C1 Premier Collection and Dinso Resort Phuket! Check out Dinso Resort! The rooms look spectacular!
Wow! You are right! Dinso Resort Phuket looks spectacular!!! Please share your experience with us after your visit. We are excited for you! Thank you for letting us know about this one.
Marriott Platinum!
Congrats on reaching Marriott Platinum! That's a fantastic achievement and definitely opens up some great perks for your travels! Let us know your favorite Marriott properties.
Miguel hit it out of the park again! Thanks for the laughs. This channel is fantastic and provides outsized value. Thanks, everyone!
We're so glad you enjoyed the video! We always aim to provide valuable insights while having a good time. We love providing outsized value! Thank you!
This is the 2nd video where it was mentioned that they got the Aspire card through a NLL application. Why not tell us about this link before it expires, instead of waiting?
We record our videos in advance in order to produce the high quality content you are viewing. The RUclips format as it stands now does not allow us to provide up to the minute links when they are available. This NLL offer quickly died. This is why we are building our Elevate community so we can provide our audience access to the resources, tools, and datapoints they need.
@LetsGetToThePoints thanks! You guys provide great information. I really appreciate it.
1 - Hilton because of top tier with just a CC. 2 - Hyatt because of Chase transfer 3 - IHG because of the 4th night free
Thank you for sharing your favorites! It's always helpful to hear different perspectives on hotel programs. What's your favorite IHG property so far?
@@LetsGetToThePoints We enjoy the Kimpton Surfcomber on South Beach. Not so much for the rooms as they are very small, but for the location. Direct beach access with umbrellas & chairs. Easy walk to all the South Beach restaurants.
I am literally over half way through the video and still only talking about Hyatt! 😉
Thanks for watching! We know Hyatt got a lot of love. Hopefully you stuck around for some variety later on in the episode.
I found the IHG Ambassador program a waste of money. It was difficult for me to identify a hotel I could use the free weekend night. So it was a waste of $200.
The IHG Ambassador program can definitely be hit or miss for some people. Miguel and Nicole had the same unfortunate experience as you!
Focusing primarily on renewing my Hyatt Globalist like most others here. Really banking on double elite qualifying nights to help me get over the line to one more year. I’m booked to stay at Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge which is about 4hrs from where I am based in Seattle for two nights so that 4 night total will help tremendously. Only downside is Globalist do not get free breakfast and other benefits at MMS properties.
It sounds like you have a solid plan in place! Those double elite qualifying nights can definitely make a difference. Enjoy your stay at Under Canvas and please let us know how your experience is. It's a bummer how we don't get Globalist benefits with some brands. Boo.
We are visiting the Maldives in Nov of this year. I’ve already booked the flights, but the hotel?? We, my husband and myself have enough points to stay at The Conrad, The Park Hyatt or The Intercontinental. We have or will have status with each brand by the time of our stay. Which one would you choose for a five night stay and why? I’m holding the stay at The Intercontinental already with points 109,250 per night. Hyatt is 30k and Conrad is 96k per night.
Hi! You may want to factor in the following: seaplane pricing, flight times, standard room on points (is it OW or beach villa), dinner entree prices, and unique activities at each resort. We don't have experience at the Intercon but it looks really nice. From what we've heard, the Park Hyatt is a little dated. Two of us have been to the Conrad and can recommend going for these unique features: 1) the whale sharks and 2)the underwater Ithaa restaurant. Let us know what you end up picking!
Hilton and Marriot through the Amex Platinum card. We will be getting the Hilton Aspire next since we stay mostly at Hilton.
It's nice how we can get hotel status with the Platinum card. Let us know if you have any favorite Hilton properties!
I had a follow-up Q on Etihad. So, we know we can book upper class on Etihad via Etihad and also AF. For AF, I think points are about 88k to 110k for an Etihad flight. Wouldn't it be technically the same amount of points if I add AUH as a stopover to Asia (NRT)? i.e. route is like IAD to AUH to NRT for around 100k for business class? Also, I am a bit confused, I think for AF's free stopover program, would this scenario for a partner or is that for only AF code share flights?
Hi! AF stopovers are supposed to work with partners now. AF has an interactive rewards map. It seems to be down now but was working earlier this month. This rewards map should give you an idea of the lowest points cost from point to point and that should be the expected points cost assuming you found saver lever availability. With that not working at the moment, you'll have to call AF. Please let us know how this goes!
Serena, how did you get to and from Alila?
Hi! Serena rented a car to get to Alila Jabal Akhdar. Check out Episode 76 about Capital One. Time stamp 13:25 for more info on how she booked the car rental.
Thank you for a great episode guys!. Is there an episode talking about how Mitch obtained lifetime platinum status? I don't plan on obtaining a status with any of the hotel chains I don't travel enough to rack my brain over it. I do have Hilton gold status but I've haven't utilized it. It's from a honors card I had from before I entered into this life. I have a nice stash of point but with the redemption rate it will only get me a one or two nights stay. It burns me up! grrrr
Thanks for watching! We feel you on the points redemption struggle. We hope you get to use them for something soon! Mitch earned his lifetime platinum status via a promotion that is no longer available.
@ nice! Ok thx!
@miguel, did you marry your Kix-TPE and TPE-US flight? Was your kix-tpe a free stop over? I have the same booking as you but flying economy with family. I booked them separately coz the kix-tpe was not available for award booking at the time i had to book my long haul. Fortunately, space open up and I was able to book kix-tpe. But I wonder if I can somewhat link or marry those two separate bookings. I booked both woth alaska miles and flying starlux.
He booked them separately. At the time when he originally booked TPE - LAX for 60k miles, stopovers were not allowed. He also stayed overnight in Taipei. If you want to link them, you can either call or chat with Starlux (just be mindful of Taiwan business hours). If you have a layover, when you check in at the Starlux counter at KIX, they should be able to check you in and your bags all the way through to the US.
EVergreen Airways was to be the name but similarities to another company name had it become EVA
Thanks for sharing that insight! It's always fascinating to learn how branding decisions come together. EVA has a nice ring to it.
Hotel status is important if you care about suites and breakfast, which...OF COURSE I DO! I have IHG Diamond (bought for $616), Hyatt Globalist (63 nights), Hilton Diamond (Amex aspire), Marriott Gold 🤢(Amex platinum)
Wow, with that status lineup, you must be living the high on the hog! We care about suites and breakfast just as much as you do!!!
Omg, once again, only Miguel gets the IHG program! It’s such an underrated gem. Their points can be very valuable, especially when combined with the Premier Card’s 4th night free benefit
Miguel gets it but hasn't stayed at an IHG in a while. Please tell us your favorite IHG properties. The ones that will blow our socks off. Convert us!
@@LetsGetToThePoints I’m planning to stay at more high-end IHG properties this year since I’m a Diamond member and have club lounge access. So far, I’ve stayed at the InterContinental Barclay in NYC and the InterContinental in San Francisco-both were pretty decent but it is a hotel in the USA, so the service is just ok. For me, the best part of IHG is the fourth-night-free benefit for Premier cardholders and the 100% bonus points purchase offer. Combining these two makes hotel stays much more affordable while still maintaining good quality. I do a lot of solo travel, and like Nicoles mentioned, I don’t need a super fancy hotel-just a clean and comfortable stay is enough when doing solo travel. There are many decent IHG properties in Asia where you can stay for well under $100 USD per night (by using points and/or 4th night free), which makes the program really valuable for a $$ conscious traveler like me!
We typically focus on Hyatt and Hilton. Just depends on the location and what is available. Hyatt is great value but in general, we prefer Hilton's luxury portfolio over Hyatt. That being said, can't go wrong with either. Looking forward to the PH Tokyo post remodel and the new WA London Admiralty Arch! Another great video team, yall are great!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Both Hyatt and Hilton have their perks, and it’s all about what fits your travel style best. Excited to see how the remodel turn out! Please share about your PH Tokyo experience after your visit.
@@LetsGetToThePoints Completely agree! No right or wrong answers, all that matters is what works for you!
Also there was a rumor on a hyatt premiere card with 5x and a free cat 1-7 there has been a lot of CC rumors I love them :) Miguel is right though if everyone has status no one does.
It's interesting how credit card perks can spark so much speculation! A Hyatt premium card sounds intriguing. We'll have to see if they ever materialize.
Hyatt Peloton Crossover is only when your on Hyatt Property Correct?
Yes, the Hyatt Peloton Crossover is indeed exclusive to Hyatt properties. It’s a great way to stay fit while traveling! Please let us know if you find a way to make this work with our at-home bikes. 😉
Miguel earned Marriott Titanium and Globalist in the same year? Wow, he is hardcore. Kudos!
Hard core is right! Lots of work travel involved as well.
This question might be for Miguel since he’s at the Andaz Tokyo. I’m hoping to book there in 2026 but I’m not familiar with Hyatt and how/when they release award availability. Checked MaxMyPoint (not sure if this is the best place to search) and I don’t see any award availability from May 2025 to Feb 2026. Is this because they haven’t released award availability for that timeframe yet or are those months already fully booked? Will it be that tough to find availability at this hotel? Any pointers you have on when and how to search would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
This property is in high demand. Hyatt is typically available 13 months in advance for most properties. For this one, you'll need to set alerts with MaxMyPoint. You'll want to set several alerts. Use these alert features to cover all your bases: Any Day, Daily Change, and Flexible. Also be sure to add your phone number so you'll receive a text if your alerts trigger. Good luck!
EVA Airways Corporation, of which "EVA" stands for Evergreen Airways.
Thanks for sharing that info about EVA! Silly us thought the V stood for something in particular.
I love your videos!!!! Could you do a video about strategies and tips when someone is over 5/24???
Thanks for your suggestion! Strategies for those over 5/24 can definitely help many travelers navigate their options. We'll consider making a video on that!
Another fun-filled episode!!! Most of our status are from credit card, IHG Plat Elite, Hilton Aspire for Diamond, Marriott Titanium Elite cc and stays combine and of course, Hyatt Globalist mostly through spend. Noteable stays as Globalist so far is GH Manila awesome executive lounge and service is outstanding!!! Thank you guys!!! Have a great weekend!!!
Thanks for watching! It sounds like you have some amazing experiences with your hotel statuses. We hear so many good things about GH Manila. Enjoy your weekend!
It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in a Hyatt, but usually Hilton is my go-to brand
It's interesting how everyone has their preferred hotel brands! Both Hyatt and Hilton have their perks. What do you usually enjoy most about staying at Hilton?
@@LetsGetToThePoints I stayed at the Capital Hilton in DC a year and 3 months ago, and it just had this nice luxury vibe to it Also, when I first started working about 3 and a half years ago, someone recommended staying in a Hilton Garden inn nearby before my lease started, so I usually end up continuing with Hilton
I’m a Marriott loyalist with Gold Elite status, looking to get Platinum later this year through AMEX card. Recent acquired AMEX Aspire for Hilton status haven’t stayed @ Hilton property looking to do that this year.
Great news! Which Hilton property are you eyeing?
@ not sure, open to ideas. Not as familiar with Hilton as I am with Marriott.
Planning trip to CHI late spring, any hotel recommendations. Also considering applying for World of Hyatt card.
❤Hilton. For the Stay❤ Thanks for the info + video!
Glad you found the info helpful! Hilton truly has some great perks for their loyal guests. ❤️ For The Stay. ❤️
FIRST!!!
Thank you for being the first to comment! Your support means a lot!
A little late to this week’s podcast but I did watch it on the plane returning from Niseko, Japan 🇯🇵. Niseko was amazing and I highly recommend it. Stayed at the Hilton Niseko on points for a (5) night stay and got upgraded to a family room with a view of Mt. Yotei. It was phenomenal. Status with Airlines is totally worth it especially if you do fly international economy all the time (me). I currently hold Star Alliance Gold (United), Sky Team Gold (Delta), and Alaska MVP Gold (Status Match). I do plan on switching my mileage crediting to Alaska when possible as I do catch a lot of ANA flights so my United mileage balance is reaching 300k 😅. I also hold the Delta Reserve and the United Club as I tend to fly those for business quite a bit so status and holding these have yielded me 1st Class domestic upgrades quite a bit and upgrades to premier economy on international long haul flights quite often I might add. To me Status is a must, if you are for the moment not in the business or first class arena. We fly economy to stretch our points the farthest to continue to go on trips on a quarterly basis if possible.
Wow, it sounds like you had an incredible trip to Niseko, Carlos! Nicole will talk about her trip to Niseko next week. When the rest of us go to Niseko, I think we'll have a hard time picking between the Hilton and Hyatt options there. Your experience with airline status is super insightful-it's great to hear how much it has enhanced your travel experience. Your current airline status lineup is impressive! Thank you for bringing us along on your flight back home and we appreciate you sharing your airline status experiences!
Literally LOL’d at Nicole’s comment about the kids flying on the wing of the plane 😂😂
We're glad you enjoyed that moment! This hobby would be no fun if we didn't laugh.
Wow I haven’t heard this song since early college. Great short! ❤
We're glad you enjoyed it! It's always fun to revisit those nostalgic tunes.
Is Nicole going to do a special episode on her trip to Japan? Would love to know where she went and how she liked Park Hyatt Kyoto.
She will be covering that during our episode premiering on Jan 31. Stay tuned!!!
I was totally bummed when American switched from distance-based to cost-based. I used to get gold/platinum status regularly with business trips. Last year, I flew 8 round trip biz flights from FL to CA plus another $9k personal spend on AA flights paid with Barclays AA card and still had to do some eshopping just to earn gold status. Ugh! Since I do fly AA often enough, I try to maintain status for better seat selection and early boarding for carryon bags but it’s gotten more and more painful in recent years.
Ugh! We feel your pain! It's definitely frustrating to see the changes in elite status qualification. Your commitment to flying with AA is commendable, and we hope they make it a bit easier for loyal customers like you in the future, but not holding our breath on that!
They seem to reward the shoppers a lot more than actual travelers. I only earn about 2500 miles flying round trip from FL to LA, which is half the actual distance. I was shocked when I learned that people were earning 4200+ miles for buying a meal kit. Unfortunately since I have to travel for work, I might as well try to make it a bit more convenient by earning status.
Thailand food getting expensive. $4 for mango sticky rice? It was $1 10 years ago. Just spent the last 3 months in Malaysia and Vietnam. Still getting full meals here for $1-2/ per person.
Wow! What a deal! We’re headed to Malaysia and Vietnam later this year. Please let us know your favorite places to eat!
@LetsGetToThePoints the commercial restaurants on the ground level of the building called Trion @ KL are all great
I heard in a prior episode you’re getting cards for for kids too… if there a certain brand that allows kids to get cards?
Hi! Both Miguel and Nicole have kids who turned 18 and they applied for cards. You can get authorized user cards for younger children to start building their credit. Chase and Capital One have no minimum age for authorized user cards.
This podcast seems to be all about the hosts telling what they’ve done not telling you how to do it. They advertise that they’re telling you how to do it, but they’re really not. The worst is the Instagram website. Waste of time.
We’d love to know which part wasn’t clear so we can help clarify it for you. We're always happy to provide more detail for you.😊
Thank you for the Choice Hotel in Japan tip!
You're welcome. Newly added this month, we can now book Choice hotels 50 weeks out instead of 100 days. This is great news for planners!
I loved listening to part 1 and part 2! Transfer point question. If there was a transfer bonus for air france and i was thinking about booking a year later would that be a good choice? Is that too speculative? Wanting to go to Switzerland with my family of 4 (2kids)
Hi and thank you for watching! We only recommend speculative transfers if you are very flexible with your dates and have back up plans for your points in case the awards for Switzerland do not materialize. Air France just devalued their awards and there's no way to know for sure when the next devaluation will happen. For most people, we recommend the conservative route and transfer when you see availability and are ready to book.
I have lifetime AA gold, million miler. When I am flying Alaska, in have been using my AA status for possible upgrades. Is this correct?
Yes, this is correct. You'll want to add your AA loyalty number to all oneworld flights for the credit and benefits.
Alaska 75k here (SEA based) - I make sure I hit status, for both the 1st Class upgrades (typically 50% of my flights get upgraded) and also with that 75k I book straight into Premium seats. Been known to take a few mileage runs myself to maintain status.. SEA to Boston is one of the bet flights for that as if booked correctly you never have to worry about missing your return flight, as it will be the same plane bringing you back to SEA :)
Wow, it sounds like you really have a solid strategy for maximizing your status! Those upgrades and premium seats must make your travels so much more enjoyable. Keep enjoying those mileage runs and that's a fantastic tip about timing the SEA-BOS flight!
