Willys Jeep 4 Speed Swap: Clutch Linkage!
Willys Jeep 4 speed swap clutch linkage! In this video the 4 speed swap is almost done. I figure out how all the new linkage for the clutch will work with the big 4 speed. There are several methods for doing this but I decided to go for something a little different. This worked out great but the true test will be when I take it for a drive! This should apply to most cj2a, cj3a, CJ3B, and cj5.

Vintage Jeep CJ5 Starter Upgrade!

Vintage Jeep cj5 starter upgrade! In this video the old cj5 is making some weird noises at start. When I investigate I find the gear on the starter bendix is stripped out. Fortunately I had an upgraded starter sitting on the bench ready to go. Using this upgraded starter which is made for a Toyota Landcruiser gives the old Jeep a lot better start up and is also much more economical than replaci...

Removing The Hard Top On My Vintage Jeep CJ5!

Removing the hard top on my vintage Jeep cj5! Summer time is finally here and it’s time to take the hard top off and enjoy the warm weather! This worked out really good because I have limited roof space and needed a bigger storage solution for my Willys m38a1. It was for sure easier removing the hard top than installing it. It’s a job I wasn’t excited about doing but I’m glad it’s done and read...

Installing a hardtop on my vintage Jeep! Just in time for the cold weather of winter I’ve got the hardtop installed in the old cj5. The hardtop I installed is a vintage meyers hard top. That bearing 3" seperator don't fit exactly right on the bearing--is too small, but appears to work. It will scar the bearing, but I suppose it's getting replaced so no big deal. 6" would be better, then just put bolts to pull away from the transmission (no need for the fork, etc).

    I'm not criticizing your setup, just tossing out some random thoughts since you asked us for them. By far the simplest solution would be to go with a hydraulic throwout bearing. The downside is when it fails you have to pull everything apart to change it. My '65 Scout had what I think is a better setup, the slave cylinder was mounted to the outside of the bellhousing. It would be doable to make a bracket to mount the slave on the bellhousing forward of the transmission where there are no clearance issues and drill and tap the bellhousing to bolt it on. It would require a small bellcrank out past the hole for the clutch cable to reverse the direction of the pull. I am not a real big fan of hydraulic clutches though. Besides potential problems with leaks and seals going bad, my '61 Scout snapped a front axle shaft once when I was stopped with the tranny in reverse and my foot on the clutch. The flex hose blew out at just that moment dropping the clutch and the driveline shock took out the shaft. Finally, although I have had numerous experiences with frame twist making my clutch momentarily unusable on my newer jeeps with hanging pedals, I don't remember ever having it happen in any of my flatfenders with floor pedals (it looks as though you would break something before reaching the point where flex would affect clutch operation) which is why I've kept the stock setup in my "foerever Jeep" through all the engine swaps and other mods (a '46 Cj 2A I've owned since 1974). In my own humble opinion this is a place where "less is more". I made a bracket for the dual chamber brake master cylinder to work in the same position as the old one and don't find checking/ topping off the fluid awkward, so I don't see where there is any advantage to having hanging pedals. Since you want to convert to them though, I think your setup should work great. You are using all the good parts of the stock setup while eliminating the problematic link between them and the hanging pedal. Your setup looks clean and functional. Thank you for the video, I always enjoy them and look forward to the next one! Stay safe...

      @SevenBarSalvage Месяц назад

      I appreciate all the advice and sharing your experiences! I agree something mounted to the bellhousing would be best and eliminate all the linkages in between! Thank you!

    On these flat fenders their is simply not a lot of room think about it and the problem is solved. You and I have seen what a lot of DIYs have done before us some worked some didn't and for everyone that tried it was the best job posable. I am not one to criticize anybody's work they are doing it their way so go for it. We have seen cjs with swinging peddles that seems like a lot of work just to get power brakes on a little Jeep. I am doing a ground up on a 2A with a V8 pto winch power steering so like where dose the master go? On the frame behind the stock reworked clutch bell crank just use modern hardware. Install the master backwards make a bell crank of some kind where the stock master was located. A new duel master and 7" booster can be had for $120. Hope this well help some one. I like the KIS method it takes a long time and $$$$ to put swinging in strong. Paul

    If you install it as I see it now (somewhat "Hydromechanikal system") you will have the same "chassis twisting" problems, as when it is straight mechanical.. I mean .. When you drive it on a rough trail and the chassis is "twisted" (compared to the drivetrain..) then you'll have variable distance on your left foot to clutch on.. Sometimes you will feel the clutch "up" and sometimes "down".. That's why the "link bar" among the chassis and the trainy body is mounted on.. Also you'll have mounting problems with this kind of pedals' "combo". There will be no room for the brake booster (you'll have to mount it separately or make some "extension" with pipes down below, at your feet. I thing you understand this.) What I did on my Jeep and worked flawlessly for about 5 or 6 years after.. I made a sturdy mounting plate ON THE TRAINY for the "slave pump" (you'll find the right way, I'm sure..) and a short clutch cable (or make one short..) Link them with a Z form "lever" so to have the "pulling action " you need and you'll have the best clutch on the Jeep.. I'm surε you have the ability to understand and make it work...Thank you for your video..Nice to see you again on RUclips... Yiannis from Greece
