I found a 1964 CJ5. Been working on it, one little thing after another, for 4 months. You landed a great vehicle. Mine has the F 134, and yes it would be nice to put a bigger engine in it, but as long as it runs well there is nothing that sounds as iconic as the F 134. When it revs up, it is an awesome sound. There is no way I’d change it. It came with a Warn Overdrive and 33” tires, so it will run on the road comfortably. I have to stay off the interstate, yes, but around town - WooHoo! Give the 134 a chance. It is the heart of that Jeep. Thanks for the education I have gotten from you. Looking forward to what you do with this.
@@SevenBarSalvage keep them posting! Hoping to start slowing working on mine too. Sadly I’d like to have more than an iPhone to record it. May look into a gopro
HI THERE that thing looks really good . i got a few old jeeps around here also . sold 7 FCs last year . down sizing . . now for what to do with it . if the engine runs stay with it . but a set of 373 rears in it , take the pill out of the transfer case .and forget about an overdrive . john
What a find. I have a new, to me, 62 CJ5 with a Dauntless 225. Came from Montana with ZERO rust. Love the patina of the Chicken and think it will be a dandy of a build. Looking forward to watching. Congratulations.
Leave it stock, maybe better brakes. I have a '66 CJ5 with the V6 in it. I parked it thirty five years ago when the body got too bad to drive it. I drove it for three years through two North West Indiana winters with just a bimini top and a snowmobile suit. Had a blast running mud bogs, trails and sand dunes. Now my seventeen yr old daughter has started to tear it down to restore it.
Nice jeep worth the trip. I never drove that far a vehicle but I did drive more than that to kick someone's ass for trying to rip me off on eBay. the last thing he said to me when I asked for my money back was what are you going to do come over here and kick my ass he hung up on me I called my good friend and said ROAD TRIP!!!
Crazy that it took that long since tennesee is right next to virginia. Looks like a good jeep. I think those are original seats for a 67. Id keep it stock.
I am happy that you got Rick’s CJ5. And funny seeing the doors I gave him are now with you. They were the decent ones with yellow windows. I am looking forward to see what you do with it
What a great find. Of course you'll get many suggestions but I'd do a ground up without any mods. Fix the rough body parts to stop any further rust etc. Recover the seats and keep it stock. Great channel and video as always.
Great project, if you did put the dauntless in it, would you keep the T-90? Looking forward to whatever you do with it. I have been enjoying your content, I have a 49 CJ3a, with the dauntless that I need to get going on. Your content is inspiring me to get after it
I'm Virginia born and raised and spent plenty of time wheeling in a friend's Scrambler but the real reason I'm commenting is how the background sounds brought back so many memories. No Cicadas where I'm at now and haven't heard one in over 20 years. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing with us.
Nice survivor! I would rebuild the brakes, fix the floor, fuel tank and exhaust, tune it up and call it good. Maybe fit a period correct winch if you are going to seriously wheel it. Those Jeeps are amazing in stock form and what they won't drive through the winch will pull you out of. Whatever you decide, I know it will be great...
I like your plan to keep it as is, just make it reliable. The F-head is plenty good when properly tuned and maintained. They have the right sound for a vintage jeep.
Yay!! I'm happy you got an early CJ5!! I love the Jeep. You asked for suggestions, so I'll give mine. I love all early CJ5's, stock or modified, but I'd take out that F-head right quick. I KNOW you would love a dauntless....more than enough power and kinda stock-ish...but it really transforms the Jeep into a great driver, and it sounds like that's what your looking for. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be great and I look forward to watching it happen.
Cool find. Building a 67 with a dauntless right now. Going with semi stock but just mainly reliable and fun. Lost brakes on a backroad years ago. Parked ever since. I'm interested to see how yours turns out!
@@SevenBarSalvage Okay so this is the first video you made for this project then? just want to make sure i am not missing any videos. loving your CJ5 series was hoping this was as in-depth. I am sure i will enjoy this just as much from here if there are no videos before this.
I like your plan to keep it close to stock for a little weekend warrior/daily driver. Also, Dad's eh. My dad and I did 400+ miles and put in 12 hours there and back to pick up my m38.
I think keep it as original as possible without spending a lot of extra cash for vintage parts. Am sure you know what you have and what you want. Great luck and have fun on this enviable project. Really neat your Dad is around to share your hobby.
Hey there Man, great video. I have been watching some of your videos now for about the past year I like the way that you try to keep things on a budget and build things simple when you can. I don't know if you watch many RUclips channels your self, But here is the names of a couple channels that I believe you will really like and find helpful and interesting. Fitzee's Fabrication. In New Found land. Canada. And Rat Rods for Africa. In South Africa. Thank you for all your videos, Keep up the awesome work. Tim from Wisconsin.
Like the Matts off road recovery reference and rope
Glad you caught that 😉
@@SevenBarSalvage Matts Channel and others that he promoted are great. Like FabRats & Bobby Layton plus a bunch of smaller channels.
Awesome old jeep a real survivor
Loving it!!
Thank you for all the comments!
Get it running and drive it. Looks nice
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Thank you!
Lucky!

You’re right these old 4 cylinders have a good reputation! Awesome project! Thank you for watching!
You have the right idea. Stock is good in this case.
Glad to hear it!
Look forward to seeing the progress. I’ve got a 64 I bought about the same time you did
I’ve got a couple videos on it and one in the works upgrading the brakes! That’s awesome!

Keep it stock, build your 3b best of both worlds
I agree!
Love it i would fix it like you said. You can always change things later
Very true!
Nice find. My dad drove a CJ5 around Kingsport for years. Thanks RT
BTW I just picked up a 3B. Painted Orange no doubt. Go VOLS
Shoot yeah haha that’s awesome!
Clean it! Fix it! Drive it!
🔥👍
Was just re-watching. You questioned the front seats. They are identical to what is in my 62.
That’s good to know thank you!

Fix it and use it, gotta love the way it looks. You guys in USA so lucky being able to find Jeeps like this. Thanks for sharing.
There’s a few nice ones left out there, thank you for watching!

You should fix it up it in good shape. I would cover it to protect it good luck
Thank you!
Fix the rust then leave it alone. Get it driving as is. It’s a very cool Jeep. Leave the mods to your 3B. Good luck.
I like the way you think, thank you!
The front seats look to be factory 70s cj seats.
Could be!

Keep it in this condition, but mechanically sound, and enjoy the basics. Like they were meant to be.

If I ever found a good 225 I would be tempted, but I think I would upgrade to a 4 speed if I swapped engines. That’s awesome glad to hear it!

Just use the stock tank
