E46 Track Build! Subframe disassembly
Hello and welcome to today’s video, which marks the first step in transforming my E46 into a dedicated track car/track build. I sourced another rear axle/subframe from an E46 330 so that we can install the larger rear brakes and stronger output/drive shafts. Since we also need to replace the crusty 25-year-old bushings on the subframe, I purchased many race-grade components that will surely transform this car.
I also explain in detail how I plan to carry out this transformation, as I intend to remove all the rust, zinc coat all the hardware, and rebuild nearly every single component going back onto the car. And let’s not forget the LSD conversion kit I picked up-it allows the differential ...

    Wow... new fear unlocked. I’m so sorry about the copyright issue - disgusting people. Even though that editing style suits you so well, if you ever want to use music, think about investing in something like Epidemic Sound, Artlist, Lickd, etc. I’ve never had a single issue using services like these for music. Just a quick tip for the wheel hub, if you don’t want to wait for the press. You can use two wheel bolts - Screw them in, and place a thick piece of metal between the brake shield and the hub, where the bolts stick out. Tighten the wheel bolts, and it should come out. (I’ve done this on my E46, which was rusty as hell, but it worked fine ^^) Can’t wait to see that subframe transformed :)

      @TheSaemiProduction @TheSaemiProduction Yes, everything will be upgraded so that the car doesn't leave me stranded for a second time :) The lsd conversion kit will make a noticeable change, but it is more to be seen as a traction aid for snow etc, because only 25% lock is a bit measly :/ But at a pricepoint of 300 euros you can't complain especially when real lsds with 100% lock cost upwards of 1000. @seesikopter @seesikopter I bought my first e46 with the idea to turbo it. now over 4 years later it's still N/A. If you are in a similar situation, dont turbo it, just buy one and treat it well. You can enjoy them in stock form and a realiable turbo build alone cost 10 to 15 k euros. Not including Tüv where you need many things, emissions test, vmax test etc. all of which are extremely expensive. I would recommend to just leave it NA :)

Thats the most important thing. And the lead injector shouldnt be taken apart because there is a needle lift sensor attached to it and that gets it's signal from the inside. I dont know if it needs recalibrating after dissassembly etc etc, and afaik there is no information in it out there 🤷‍♂️ so i suggest not touching it. So you would set the pump timing like BMW suggests but fuel quantity with the hammer? My car has similar issues to yours, where cold and hot will take some cranking to start and I would like to check if everything is set correctly. What fuel quantity should I get in inpa/dis? Also, where did you get the injector nozzles and tester? Awesome work man, your channel is one of the few that shows anything about this engines..

    • @DailyDrivenClasssics
      @DailyDrivenClasssics Месяц назад

      @chetbacon @chetbacon Thanks man! 😊 Yeah, I’d definitely set the timing to BMW specs with a dial gauge. The injection quantity, though, is a weird topic. A lot of people suggest around 5 mg/stroke, but honestly, I’ve found my engine runs kinda rough at that setting. I’ve got mine at 10 mg/stroke now, and it’s way smoother. I got the 12 mg/stroke number from a guy who had his tds pump refurbished at a Bosch center, so I figure if Bosch sets it to 12, that’s probably a solid reference point. If your car’s mileage is low (like under 150k km), I wouldn’t worry too much about the injectors yet. Cold start issues are often down to bad glow plugs, poor fuel atomization and poor compression. If you’re only running diesel (and not stuff like black diesel or veg oil) and your injectors are low mileage, I’d suggest testing the glow plugs-or just replacing them with high-quality ones to be safe. As for the hot starting issue, it’s pretty normal for these engines. When they’re hot, the ECU doesn’t trigger the in-tank pump or glow plugs(at least on my e34), so it can take a little extra cranking. Adding an anti-return valve to the fuel lines can help with that by keeping the pressure in the pump. I bought my injector tester off eBay-nothing fancy, just a cheap one since I’m on a budget. For the nozzles, I got Bosch ones from Autodoc, but honestly, next time I’d probably go to a certified Bosch center instead. I’ve had some sketchy stuff with counterfeit parts from Autodoc, so better safe than sorry. Hope that helps! Let me know if you’ve got more questions :)

      @m9ij One of the previous owners had a cable break and fixed it very unprofessionally. I re-repaired it and it still didn't change anything, so i thought it was the throttle body because there was an error code for short in throttle body circuit. I just bought TB and engine harness so that I can fix the engine :) ( In hindsight I think another cable in the harness broke other than the 3 I re-repaired but I got the engine running so I no longer care )

    I really feel your pain. I think my E31 project is actually killing me gradually, a little bit more every week! My E46 325Ci has now a super-annoying intermittent fault on the dreaded K Bus. Anything in the car (which is just about everything in the car) that is connected to the K bus intermittently works or doesn't. Whenever it feels like it, windows don't drop when doors open, windows sometimes drop on their own overnight, indicators work on the car but don't show as working on the cluster, indicators cancel on the car, but show as still operating on the cluster, cluster backlights sometimes don't come on, sometimes don't go off. Central locking sometimes doesn't work, climate control goes completely dead and has to be unplugged to reset, and the most annoying of all, car now doesn't go to sleep so drains the battery overnight. I am seriously contemplating giving up messing about with cars and starting to build model aeroplanes!

    • @DailyDrivenClasssics
      @DailyDrivenClasssics Месяц назад

      @bobfrankish8883 @bobfrankish8883 No don't stop with cars. think of it as model aeroplanes, just a (lot) more complicated and slightly larger :) Regarding your e46 ci. try unplugging the different modules and use the car as normal. if the issues don't persist if a certain module is disconnected it is most likely that module causing the issues. also, the climate control issues and battery drain are often linked to blower regulator. my silver e46 had that issue. Just try 1 by and I'm sure you will get it figured out :)

      @@DailyDrivenClasssics Thank you for the reply. I have researched it to death as usual, just putting up with the faults until the weather gets better. I cannot get the car inside because of the E31 so have to work outside, it's 0C today where I live, with another big storm on its' way again. I'm fitting a new battery later, we'll see what effect that has.

    • @DailyDrivenClasssics
      @DailyDrivenClasssics Месяц назад

      I understand your struggles with the cold, here it was -5 today and I'm freezing even inside the garage it's cold. Let the battery disconnected for 24 hours and check the old battery with a multimeter. sometimes random errors occur because of poor battery voltage and if the battery voltage is anywhere below 12v I would suspect that as a culprit

    • @bobfrankish8883
      @bobfrankish8883 Месяц назад

      @@DailyDrivenClasssics Thanks for the reply. I suspected the battery first. It has always been good as regards voltage, however, new battery has cured starting problem thankfully, but all K bus nonsense is still there I'm afraid. We'll see. The problem is that on the e46 and other cars the cluster (KOMBI) is the K Bus gateway, so problems with other modules manifest as faults on the cluster. Scanning is not much use as it just picks random codes all over the place.

    Hello and welcome! I just wanted to clarify that the reason why I had to bypass the EWS is because the previous guys that worked on this car put in a different ecu from a different car, since the vin's do not match. I believe they bypassed the EWS as well, so the rolling codes no longer match with the key I have so we will have to see how I restore the EWS functionality in the future :) Also, this is the first video where channel members receive exclusive early access.
