This is exactly what I've signed up for when I subscribed! Loving the first video and can't wait for more episodes on this :D Also as a beginner working on cars, how do I start acquiring all this knowledge you're showing here; like interpreting all these codes correctly, knowing where to start on engine issues and stuff like that? Do you have any good sources for this?
@berni_schmorg @berni_schmorg Glad I didn't disappoint! :) It might sound odd, but I learned everything from RUclips and internet forums. I gathered random information from multiple sources and pieced it together. When you're truly interested in something, you start to understand how different parts correlate and affect each other. I only started getting into cars five years ago, and I've been researching in-depth content on how individual components work and what they do ever since :)
@@DailyDrivenClasssics Thank you so much for the reply! I've found your channel because I started doing little repairs on my E34 but I'm just not brave enough to do much (yet) since I'm daily-ing it as well. I understand that much of the knowledge, security and confidence comes from just doing stuff on cars as well but maybe I need to buy an E46 for 1500 for that as well :D sending much love from Austria, hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we do watching them
@berni_schmorg @berni_schmorg I'm sure you will find the confidence to do everything on your e34 :) My mindset regarding car repairs was always that everything is fixable. If you break something you can fix it again :) That's a bit easier on cheaper cars because it only affects your time and not your wallet so thats okay :) Greetings back to you :)
@Darthvolvo I still think at 1.5 k it was a fairly good deal :) Unfortunately coupe e46s have gotten so expensive that even this trashy example is worth something :/
@lachlanmax The plan is as follows: full mechanical restauration and then enjoy it completely gutted for a few months. Then chassis reinforcement and restauration along with a "tiny" bit more power :)
@ yea you said there’s a seller you trust a lot in, and I was curious because I might also buy an old and rocked e46 to kinda rebuild myself just like you do
My daily e46 330ci coupe has 245k miles with no warning lights. It looks like routine maintenance was not done. We'll see what you will do to fix all of it.
@jpadicecoffee9812 My guess is that the car had a good life for the first 10 years or so and then got abused by the multiple owners. Now its getting al the treatment it deserves tho :)
In South Africa that condition would be 6/10! some time and patience bro, this is going to awesome to follow! I am working on my first car project so i hope to learn lots from you!
@@DailyDrivenClasssics In SA we love BMW. The E30 325is is the unofficial nation car. E46 is cheap to buy but can be expensive to run so often young people will buy one and the condition only gets worse.
Thanks :) Rust wise its in a really good state for a german car, but the rest? Oh boy is it neglected and destroyed: Already found some cut wires, welded in panels, shady cable work etc :(
Understandable :) I struggled with the injection timing on my diesel e34 but now im happy to work on a gas car again. Those 6 months of diesel madness were nice tho :) (I already fixed the car, so next episode will be a good one :))
@@DailyDrivenClasssics Electronic controlled VE pumps were the worst era of diesels. They always caused problems. Especially the VP37 (BMW TD/TDS) and VP44 (BMW 320d pre facelift and some Audis)are really problematic. The old mechanical VE pumps like in the M21, or even better the inline injection pumps which Mecedes used were pretty solid. BMW diesels with the common rail Pump which all M57s are equipped with, are the ones you want. Or the newer version of the M47 if you like tractor feeling.😂
@C_Productions I agree! when working on the td I found many people hating on it because of the pump lol. But still I liked the feel of the engine when driving. Just very underpowered.... so I've decided to give the M51 a second chance, just full mechanical and in an e39 chassis :)
@@C_Productions true. My Volkswagen golf MK3 TD engine had a electronic controlled VE pump because it was a 1995 engine model. I wanted to swap that engine into my 1989 golf MK2 GTD chassis. That electronic VE was broken. It started on brake cleaner. But on it's own power it stalls. I ended up to buying a fuel pump from a 1992 MK3 TD. And also replaced the fuel pump timing belt pulley and bracket that holds the pump. And then it finally started on it's own. I am not sure how much power i ended up making. but man it's a quick car. 0-100. Was 6,7seconds on a good day when the engine is not heat soaked yet. Instead of the 15 sec ish standard. I had also a big front mount intercooler and bigger exhaust and bigger turbo. Not bad for a little indirect injection diesel. What's the fun in driving fast RS3's and m140i when you can have fun with a nugget
@@DailyDrivenClasssics i've had one E39 525TDS. But it is NOT a mechanical Pump. It is the same as in the E34 just a bit updated. Sold it because it was rusted trough and engine problems. I do like the M51 in some way, because it sounds the best. But the huge amount of problems they always have will never make me buy one again.
this thing is in rough shape... xD
@TheSaemiProduction
@TheSaemiProduction Absolutely ! That's why I bought it :)

The seller should have paid you $1500 to take that thing off his hands. Looking forward to seeing where this series goes!
