How To Put Your Own Landsape / Backyard Into Stellarium
A full step by step how-to tutorial on capturing, editing and installing your own viewing location into stellarium as a custom landsape. Only free software used.
See your own house and those annoying tall trees - whatever you see from your viewing/imaging location can be shown in stellarium as a 360° panorama. You can do multiple custom landsapes if you like, such as home, dark site1 etc.
This is a long video but it shows the whole process, so even if you don't know what to do in GIMP, I walk you through it. Timestamps are provided if you want to skip to particular sections.

Cheap Dew Prevention and How to Make DIY Dew Heaters for Astrophotography
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.3 месяца назад
DIY dew heaters / dew straps for telescopes, lenses, eyepieces etc. in astronomy, astrophotography and indeed photography. I also delve into the other options in the battle against dew formation, such as the dew shield and the primary mirror fan. Instead of buying a £15 - £20 dew heater, I bought £5 worth of resistors and can make at least 2 or 3 dew straps from these. If you feel I've saved yo...

My DIY Home Observatory Tour

I've taken an old, beat up caravan/trailer and converted it into a roll off roof observatory and it's a great upgrade for astrophotography. It will afford me more imaging time (which I've been very short of) by almost eliminating any set up time. It's now worth bothering with a two hour gap in the clouds. For your USB thing, it might be 3 things. Your old CPU and uts buffer size it can pack in it are to small, buffer memmory on your USB is slow or to small or you can try to put it in the back of the moterboard in a USB 3.0 slot. Fromt USB usualy runns thro chipset chip, back USB are usualy linked directly to the CPU. Your laptop might have USBs linked to the CPU or the CPU has bigger buffer for data. So upgrade to maby Ryzen 5 3600x setup. Your 4th gen OC does not help you mate 😉

    Another good one! Were the belts provided in the kit that George sent you or did you have to source those yourself? Also, I am a little unclear as to how you actually adjust the tension with those brackets...

    • @Cheapass-tro
      @Cheapass-tro Месяц назад

      Hello again. They're not in the standard ESP3 kit. I ordered the pulley wheels & belts and the stepper motor drivers from George also. There's an elongated slot where the motor bracket bolts to the mount which allows for tensioning. I've not had to adjust since the initial tension. I found that the bolt alone may not hold it after adjusting so a small shim may be necessary (well I stuck a washer in behind the bracket to stop it trying to slacken). Hope this makes sense?

  • @iamjessieray
    @iamjessieray Месяц назад

    Another nice video there (you're going to see more comments from me as I work my way through them!) That... looks like a huge pain in the butt. Not the soldering bit, but the picking all of the right parts to buy part. I might have to send George an email and see if he can give me a hand on that front. I'm sure that this model works perfectly fine and that is no reason to go with the version 4 of it, but I must say that this video series has so far been a great way to let me know what I am getting myself into here.

    I am about to start on my own OnStep journey. Not to add tracking to a non-goto mount but to fix an upgrade my old Celestron CG5 Advanced GT. The electronics in this thing are seriously sub part and have caused me nothing but trouble. Mechanically it is a great mount in my opinion, so I think with modern (and well matched) electronics and a belt driven upgrade it will be a HUGE upgrade. In the meantime I guess I'll have to see if I can carefully run my 130p-ds on my ES iexos 100-2 mount or do some wide field projects on it with my DSLR and lenses. I appreciate your honesty and I didn't even know about the OnStep kits, even the board you can buy from the links on the Wiki which is going to make this a lot easier for me. I don't mind paying a little more and doing some more work as long as I get a good product out of it.

    Interesting. But how about the temperature inside, isn’t it a few degrees higher than outside? It has to be a few degrees warmer inside than outside, Isn’t that a problem? Did you maybe checked the inside / outside temperature to see the difference?

    • @Cheapass-tro
      @Cheapass-tro Месяц назад

      Hi and thanks for your question. It'll be warmer than the outside cold and cooler than the outside heat. I haven't experienced extremes of either since I built this. On a warm day it's considerably cooler inside and on a cold night it's mild inside. I'll try to remember to reply again after experiencing freezing temps outside (give it a month or so)... I have not tried using a thermometer as I've had no reason for concern.

      Neither does mine but it only needs to keep the tube slightly above ambient. Your hand is warm enough to prevent dew on the scope so it may not feel warm enough to your hand.
