Just goes to show ya that if you have drive or passion, even on a tight budget, you can accomplish so much. Nice one Nugsy. Inspirational stuff dude. Hats off mate
Love the counterweights!!! I seem to have had exactly the same path into astrophotography, from DSLR, to Nico Carver, to scanning extremely expensive gear I'm never going to buy to taking fabulous pictures of galaxies! (well fabulous to me, they are pictures of galaxies!!!). Keep 'em coming!
Nice one Nugsy I do like watching budget videos as it's taken me years to get where I am now as before that I used modified DSLR's for years, still have them although I think I may have to get one out & blow the cobwebs from it. Keep up the good work clear skies!!
Great advice mate. I bought a power supply and dummy battery for my 600D for under twenty Quid four years ago and it's still working ok (nothing worse than the battery dying half way through a session). Like your dove tails and lens clamps, good tip about the imperial size screws and nuts as well.
I had the same issue for the balancing, i found really cheap weight for weightlifting in decathlon, less than 2€ for 500g, i use 2 on my DIY mount, work like a charm.
Another cost effective mod is to replace the camera's firmware with Magic Lantern which has an in-camera intervalometer within the camera software. There isn't a current nightly build for the 450d but there is a firmware download 'in-progress' available. As long as you follow the instructions you can always reload the original Canon firmware however you also need to accept there is always a risk of bricking your camera if there are issues with the firmware update. That said, I've used ML on several cameras with no issues at all over the last three years.
Thanks. Maybe I should make a short video on how much searching goes into bargain buys. My cheap buy was listed for only 3 minutes before I bought it. You gotta be on the ball.
Brand new today from FLO they're £339 but mine was 15 years old and I bought the scope and mount together for a mere €65. More likely to be hundreds in most cases.
No need to apologise for asking a beginner's question. I had lots of these starting out... Now you've just added another, as I actually don't know what this piece is called and I can't seem to find the answer. I just call it a DSLR mounting screw thingymajig. 🤷♂ If you're looking to source one of these, I'd suggest you don't bother as it's pretty useless (not as adjustable as it seems). I'd instead get a ballhead mount or similar. It has a ¼" bolt (a standard camera fitting).
My Canon M10 has no port for an intervalometer, has none built-in and the phone app doesn’t support it either so I use the 2-second timer and press the shutter button myself. Loads of times!
Oh yeah. I just looked into this. It does have a USB, so it may be controllable via a laptop/tablet? Otherwise I saw a guy just taping down the shutter release after dialling in the settings. Good luck.
Since you have a barn, I’d try a barn door tracker ;) seriously though your new channel is a great format: DIY saves money ❤
Thanks! ... I may do a barn door tracker one day when I'm thin on material, even though I don't need one.
Top drawer Nugsy. Some great starting tips and more affordable ways into the hobby. Keep ip the great work, enjoying your channel 👍
Great to hear, thanks Glenn!

Thanks very much bud.
Hi Nugsy. Glenn (Astrobloke) recommended your channel to me. Glad he did, love your intro track and great info mate. Clear skies
Ah he's a good lad. Glad to have you here!
I've have same tripod and always had that balancing problem, learned something today, you have new subscriber, clear skies
If I only helped you it's mission accomplished - Thanks!
Love the counterweights!!!

Of course they're fabulous. They're self taken images of things millions of light years away! Even if a blurry first attempt they're amazing.

Thanks man! Clear skies to you too.

Damn! I forgot to mention that - and thanks!

Spot on! Good job.
Another great vid mate well done 👏

Yes I did look into that, but as you say - the 450D isn't fully sorted for that.
There's more I didn't say too but it was going on a bit.
Brilliant 👍👍 just what i was looking for ,thinking of having a go at astro .
Great. All the best.
Thanks some cracking ideas here.
... and thank you for saying so.
Brillian video. How innovative! thanks for the tips
... and thank you very much!
Nice one Nugsy… any ideas on where to get a Cheap Ass EQ mount from… ;-)
Thanks. Maybe I should make a short video on how much searching goes into bargain buys. My cheap buy was listed for only 3 minutes before I bought it. You gotta be on the ball.
Also don't discount the EQ3. Much more likely to be found at a good price and a capable mount if you 'supertune' it (and don't overload it).
Great video. Quite inspiring. I need to get me a second hand dslr!
It's definitely an interesting pursuit. Just be careful as it can easily turn into a money pit.
Great video, always nice not to have to spend more money
Yeah, I spend time instead. They do say that time = money.
Can you tell me what is the price of your equitorial mount in your main telescope setup of your home observatory
Brand new today from FLO they're £339 but mine was 15 years old and I bought the scope and mount together for a mere €65. More likely to be hundreds in most cases.
Thank you for telling the price
@@HyperX07 Its a good tripod, if used do an Hypertune, removing all parts , polish and new grease.
@@Cheapass-tro You properly repainted cause it looks new, did you do the Hypertune.
@@vicamaral I gave it a quick spray - Yes after Martin Pyott's hypertune!
Another great video ty
Thanks JC!
@@Cheapass-tro np my son. I think im just going to save up longer ;)
Sorry for the beginner's question, what is the name of the circular plastic you are attaching around 07:29 ?
