      Both, there have always been a problem with DOF in the old wicked engine DX11 that's why it was never added to MAX, I fixed that and will add it to MAX shortly. The snow is also new and still wip, I like to also add depth buffer support to it :)

    as some one who's spent many a year making a titanic based game in ggmax, this will be a must have. the lod generator is superb stuff! bought it recently. But yep, this looks perfect.

    Excellent work. Could you add some sort of vertex wobbling or snapping? That's the only thing missing for the shader to be on par with those available in other engines. Can't wait to pick it up!

      Its was just something quickly put together , well I did add dither that's add a lot , I dont even know what "vertex wobbling" is, so yes there are tons that could be improved, Thanks :)

      Yes I know it was a really fun test, my brain was trying to translate my thoughts to English and gave me my worst coding session ever. You really need to practice live video/coding :)

    Looks pretty good, but to really nail that PSX look you should consider "vertex snapping" and "texture swimming", both of which were very big parts of the PSX's unique appearance. And some way to disable texture filtering, so we can properly use low-resolution pixelated textures, without needing to upscale them to 4k to keep the pixel edges sharp.

      GameGuru MAX already include a terrain editor you can use , depending on your needs perhaps you dont need it , but yes MAX Easy Terrain is a separate app that you can purchase.     I know this is solely made for GGM but if it is possible to load and save in another 3d format such as the most common OBJ, it would be really useful for other engines as well. It makes the transitions between lod stages so much better. :)

      Yes billboards are a great addition to LODs, the perfect fit would be having a billboard for LOD4, So when switching to billboard it happen at a greater distance (LOD4) so you dont really notice the popping when switching. There can be problems using it as an alternative depending on the angle the player see the object's, like if you fly over the object it will look wrong top down, this could be fixed by using more rotated planes for the billboards but then again I think as a addition to LOD it would work great :)

      @@MakingGames Maybe look at the way that Ultra Engine handles billboards for some inspiration. You can choose how many angles you want, and iirc it even has an option for billboard angles from above and such. (It also fades between billboards with an alpha effect, rather than instantly transitioning between angles.) It'd use more memory of course, but an end-user may want to use billboards for particularly expensive assets. Perhaps even characters for a big battle scene? I.e. you have fake billboard characters off in the distance, with a basic 3 or 4 frame walking animation. On that note, some optimizations particularly for characters would be supreme. Techniques like time-slicing (rather than each character updating their physics and logic each-frame, characters closer to the player update every frame, those further back every other frame, etc. or even characters are automatically placed in "batches" and each "batch" updates at the same time, but only one batch can get processed per-frame.) animation throttling based on distance, etc. You're doing amazing work by the way, bless you and thank you, good sir.

    Nice! I think it would be a good idea to draw a wireframe on top of the meshes in the editor to visually compare LODs.

      Yes that's a good idea, I added a "overlay wireframe" that uses depth so you only see the wireframe on the visible side, so its not so confusing. Wicked Engine make it so easy, and SkinVertex came in handy here. Thanks for all your work :)

      You need the LOD Generator to make the LOD objects, but you only need to optimize the master objects :)

    Wow, what a great job and huge effort you have put into improving the performance of the GameGuru Max engine... I really thank you for everything you have done so far and I am very excited about what you will do in the future... You are better than the lazy people who own the engine. They have not made such a great effort since it was released on Steam.. You have surpassed them in the amount of work and in a very short time, even though you are only one person... and they have been working for more than a year and we have not seen an impressive feature of the engine from them. It is just fixing errors and small improvements that increase the errors, which increases their procrastination by not working on new features or Important improvements under the pretext that they need to fix errors.. There is no team or company in the world as bad as they are in managing the product, supporting it, and improving it after launch, and this is the reason for their failure with the previous product and the inability of anyone to make a real published game...thank you agin🌹🌹🌹

      Not at the moment , but Lee from TGC have asked people about this, and if there was a need for larger terrains he would consider to add it.     Preben, let me say this: It is because of you that TGC Products are usable. Your improvements on GG Classic made it into a decent Software to make actual games.       Hi Duke , Thanks for the kind words :) , you already have MAXET to make custom terrain textures and landscapes, vegetation is not really open for customizing yet ( only if you replace the original textures ) but sure when we can change the vegetation folder to our own I will also add support for that, perhaps I will even make the changes in MAX for allowing customized vegetation if I get the time, really busy with the optimizing at the moment, the optimizing is really needed before any WOW features/function can be added to Max :)

    Been trying to ask about "animation" throttling, which is a technique where animations are rendered at a lower framerate based on factors like distance to camera, and the amount of processing time devoted to animations last frame. I think it could be a good optimization trick in scenes where you have a lot of animating entities, but can't just outright cull them. (Think a forest scene with a lot of animated foliage, or a big fight scene with dozens of characters.)
