nice review i have a hornby network rail class 31 which i got at quite a reasonable price and runs well am yet to try an accurascale loco, i did get the new andrew barclay which had to be sent back because it was faulty am not sure if thats accurascale to blame or hattons, i did like the look of the new bachmann model but am going to wait for there new class 69, thanks for sharing. Tom
Hi Tom thanks for the lovely comments l'm glad you liked the video hope you get your 69 soon , all the best Colin.
@Mossendrailway00 thanks Colin 👍
May be small but you have plenty of detail withn your scenics
Been through a similar thing the model railway layout saved the world year before last when the dog passed away from cancer bless his heart if it wasn't for me building model engines from card and the railway layout I probably wouldn't be sitting here enjoying it now
Hi great video and it is good to see all three in the same frame as this. I think the Accurascale has a multi dip switch near the blanking plate, and you have to turn the fan on, but it runs fast and has some noise associated with it, but you tell us what you think. Great video, Jersey Bill
Hi Bill thanks for the lovely comments and the info on the fan , i well not be turning the fan on because its to noisy and silly if l had DCC l would turn it on as quick as a flash all the best Colin.
Hi Colin. Great loco and a great price. You're getting a brilliant collection there buddy. Thank you for sharing. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete....
Hi Pete l did get a good price for the 31 but l still can not believe he let me have it for 150 pounds .I think you have a wonderful layout looking forward to seeing more all the best Colin .
Another great addition to your fleet, Colin, and as you say, a nice trio...cheers James 🙂👍
Hi James yes my fleet is growing l wish for another class 37 but dont tell the wife all the best Colin.
@Mossendrailway00 I'll say nothing 🤫😁👍
Thank you. Really enjoyed this line up! A 31 is a bit down my list of locos to buy but I’ll certainly be getting a dirty blue one sometime. I remember riding behind them from New Street to Nuneaton or Leicester back in the long, long summer holidays on weekly midland rail tour tickets. You’re right, the 31/4’s got in a right state!
Thank you for your comments and l m glad you enjoyed the video ,l do like a dirty loco not to keen on pristine looking locos and rolling stock but thats just me , all the best Colin.
*Friend's declaration to his wife upon delivery of another new model* _"Ah finally it has come back from repair"_ .... 😉 Colin - an interesting comparison - thank you! - Colin 👍
Hi Colin lm after another class 37 but dont tell the wife all the best Colin.
@@Mossendrailway00 Just need to drop into the conversation how model railways is so much more fun compared to smoking, drinking, gambling and womansing before thanking her for being so supportive towards your hobby as you hand over a large box of chocolates. Hopefully that will distract her long enough...... _PS - none of the above will probably work as wives can be just too savvy..._
I have 3 Hornby super detail 31s. Apart from one with unfortunate mazak rot(it still runs sweetly) I think they hold their own against the others(lovely as they are too) so wont replace them. Only thing Ive done it cut the rubber band fan drives off to avoid motor problems.
l think you are right about the Hornby 31 it dose hold its own against the other two it did surprise me , sorry about them mazak rot on your one l have never come across it before can you not send it back it seems unfair if you can't .All the best Colin.
@@Mossendrailway00 long out of warranty. It may get worse/may not. Running ok for now altho with bodged couplings..
To be honest. I like all 3 versions. The only (and very minor) detraction to the Bachmann model is that the gloss finish should have been satin to balance it. But that said, they are great models and I will try to get one by the end of the year. I will have to wait for the second run for the 31 from Accurascale trains. I have subbed and Happy Christmas to you and yours in advance as well as a happy belated birthday buddy. All the best, Peter.
Hi Peter l do like all 3 versions to but l can do something about it , l'm going to do a faded finish and a heavy weathered look l'm going to video it so l can help others , just hope it turns out o.k all the best Colin.
Hi, your a lucky chap indeed, even if just because your wife forgave you for the Bachmann 31 you bought! Your right, the Hornby 31 is indeed pretty good looking, I really like how the black window rubbers stand out against the white window surrounds. If they hadn't had so many issues with the Mazok rot, they would have been much better and maybe worth a risk...............I'm still waiting for Accurascale to announce a 31 in BR green without indicator boxes, now that would be a great model............Anyway, Happy Christmas, omg I hope there is another video before then, it seems too early, but you started it. All the best Dave.
Hi Dave l have not come across Mazok rot before hope l'm o k with my one . l'm got another video to come before Christmas its the start of a new layout part one is coming soon, hope you get your 31 in B R green soon all the best Colin.
@@Mossendrailway00 Regards the Mazok rot, if you haven't come across it in any models to date your probably ok. You know what it is though? Oh a new layout, how exciting, can't wait to see what you do next.
Colin - what a most enjoyable and inspirational video ably demonstrating how much can be achieved within a modest attic - very impressive! 👍 It doesn't matter how large your model room is as modellers would still want a few feet more...... - Colin
Nice to hear from you Colin l hope all is well with you and thank you for the lovely comment ,You are right we all want more room if its not to soon have a good Christmas .All the best Colin from mossend .
Nice little layout with all you need. Jersey Bill
Thanks for the lovely comment Bill .All the best Colin from Mossend railway oo
Hi Colin. Great layout buddy. Only got a 10ftx10ft layout myself. But still able to do plenty of different scenics. Thanks for sharing Colin. Thumbs up thumped 👍 ....Pete....
Thanks Pete 10 x 10 is wonderful you can have longer trains 5 or 6 coaches nice lucky man lovely comment All the best Colin from Moss end .
Hi Colin, lovely tour of the layout, didn't realise it was only 8 by 4, always seems much bigger, my new layout will only be 9 by 6,(or thereabouts), the previous one was 14 by 8, but since we moved house, the room is much smaller, hopefully it will be more manageable,it shows how much we can fit in a smaller space, anyway, sorry for filling up your comments section with my waffle, thanks for sharing, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Hi Stephen you do not waffle and thank you for the lovely comment mate. A smaller space is challenge l think you tend to put more in a space than you should lm guilty of doing it and that is the hard part knowing when to stop,Have a good Christmas all the best Colin fome Mossend .
Hi great layout I have same thing as you in the attic with the ladder entry make a board that fits over and around the ladder legs it's a lot safer and stops stock from flying down the hole I know to my experience when a dapol class 22 went down it all you need is plywood and 2x2 Just a thought love the layout
Thanks Peter l do have a flap that comes down but l don t do it because of the ladder sticking up through the hatch so cut slots for the ladder wonderful thank you did not think of that l will do that ,Have a good Christmas and all the best Colin from Mossend railway oo .
when led lights flash it is because most cameras record at a lower rate of FPS than the electrical frequency of the led. It only happens on video, however there is low vibrational state connected to the LED flash
Thanks for that the lights don t flash but the shock l got when l was filming but l carried on .Should have stopped the video but l thought it was funny so thanks for letting know why .Have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend railway.
Hi. Colin. I enjoyed the tour of Mossend and all the little details. Hog corner made me smile as I've not seen a pig farm on a layout before. It's a good choice. The cold frame and other garden details look great.
Thanks for the wonderful comments l also think its a good thing to fill a corner on a layout but l think they must not like pigs because l have not had many views , It makes me smile too have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend railway .
Thanks for the tour of your layout. You have managed to fit so much detail in.
Thanks l hope liked my layout and thank you for taking the time to make a comment all the best Colin from Mossend railway .
Nice look around the layout 👌😎☕️
Thanks Fred have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend railway.
Hi, oh that was a great look around the layout.............Small but very nicely formed.............so full of detail too. Sometimes small is better because it is easier to pack in all those details which larger layouts tend to loose. Your flashing lights are just because that is how LED's work. LED's are like a fast acting switch, you can't see the frequency they flash at but your camera can.............Nothing you can do about that I believe. Great video and thanks, all the best Dave.
Thanks Dave for the lovely comments , l did get a shock when l saw the flashing lights when filming .Thanks for taking the time to let me know why have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend railway.
The light flickering could be due to your camera speed ?
thank you for taking the time to comment l well look into the camera speed .Have a good Christmas Colin from Mossend .
A great work, nice layout. 😃👍
Thank you for the lovely comment all the best Colin from Mossend.
Hi,Colin. That was a nice overview of the layout, which is a very enjoyable video... Cheers James 🙂👍
Thanks James hope all is well have a good Christmas Colin from Mossend .
@Mossendrailway00 Thank you. All is well here, Colin. Hopefully, all is well with you. Have a good Christmas too. Hopefully, Dylan will get a Dylington Christmas video made for Christmas... CheersJames 🙂👍
Hi Colin and thanks for the layout tour, you've got a great setup there in the loft. I believe the flashing lights are down to the LED's, you can't see it to the naked eye but the camera frame rate (frames per second) picks it up when filming., I believe it's called the Stroboscopic Effect. Keep up the great work and all the best.........Andy
Thanks for the lovely comment l did get a shock when filming and all the new lights l fitted was flashing so thanks again Andy have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend railway .
Lovely layout with some gorgeous scenes. It doesn’t matter how big the layout is. It’s all about having fun, and you clearly have much fun. Good on you! Love the scratch building, believe it you are rather good at it. Thanks for the tour, take care.
Thank you for your lovely comments l do have a lot of fun with my trains how can you not with a hobby like this, And your not bad yourself with the scratch building ,l do hope your going to do some more 00 videos soon l do love your layout its so different in good way .Have a good Christmas all the best Colin from mossend,
Thanks for sharing the full layout. Good to see what can be achieved with the space available.
Thank you for taking the time to comment have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend .
Thankyou for the video Colin. I love all the intricate details. To me It is a pretty big setup. My favourite part of the layout is the maintenance depot with the arch welders. It’s Such a cool little den too. Do mind that hatch won’t you. Looking forward to the next video!
Hi Ben l hope the video was ok for you so you get a better look of the layout l do hope the flashing lights did not put you off , Have a good Christmas all the best Colin from Mossend .
Nothing wrong buying a new loco IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY...they are too expensive these days ....but nice one and price wise not too bad
thanks for comment l do have the money but my wife can not . She thinks they are toys silly l know . but l have done it again l got the Accurascale 31 for christmas so lm happy. All the best Colin ;
Enjoy , money isn’t everything
Hi Col 👋 An excellent video update. You have done a fantastic job on the weathering, you should be more than happy with the result, very nice work. I can't figure out why your channel didn't come up in my recommendations, but I've found it now :) My evening is now going to be taken up watching some of your past videos :) You have a new Sub and keep up the good work, all the best.....Andy
Andy thank you for the lovely comment l have always found weathering harder than spraying locos , l will look you up and have a look at your layout .All the best Colin.
I hope you've managed to smooth things over with your good lady. Modern trains, modern trains, you don't see them on Dylington 😂...cheers James and Dylan 🙂👍
l should stick to the old stuff James a lot less trouble for me . All the best Colin.
agree on the whole "unboxing" bit.. modelling earlier here, though I do have BR blue in "N".. not that it really works I found, when I plucked up the courage, on some N stuff adding a black panel lining wash made a massive difference, subtle effect but stops the "hey! I'm plastic!" look by adding a bit of depth.. similar with a mid brown works on the yellow. its not weathering as such, just brings up detail and depth. worked well with grilles and so on too always the issue with gloss/satin/matt stuff, models scale, light doesn't, so even 100% colour matched stuff looks wrong because of the way light catches it nice looking model, weathering though will set it apart - may also be partly down to the very nicely done layout under it making the loco look a bit too clean
Thankyou for your lovely comments l think you are right about panel wash its the first thing l do when starting my weathering it makes all the difference . All the best Colin,
Good video Col. Regards Bernie
@@smallrails6831 Many thanks 👍
Thanks Bernie hope its all going well for you all the best Col .
Yes, the CEP'S Were plain blue then blue & Grey in the unrefurbished condition. Great little units, bachmann definitely made a winner with them. 😃
Hello Enjoyed your video on the 31, it doesn't look quite right but nicely detailed and I'm sure once weathered it will look better, although that said I can't get my Heljan Peak looking right, the blues too dark. Just subbed as well. Regards Paul
Thank you for the lovely comment ,l think the Heijan Peak is the worst B R blue colour l have seen l just don t know how they can get it so wrong l will look you up and see your layout ,All the best Colin.
My kind of layout, love the 31 will look forward to more, cheers Phil.
Thanks for the lovely comment all the best Colin,
What have just done sold a class 58 for a Robinson 04 and put the difference to it is another option and don’t let the wife no
Thanks for your comment and l will not tell the wife us men have to stick together all the best Colin,
I purchased the Accurascale Class 31. 31402 runs and sounds great. I do think the Bachmann is a bit shiny. Accurascale class 31 has a centre floating axle per bogie. Why not watch one of my videos. As for the Cromtons class 33 I have loads of them
Don t get me wrong l love the Bachmann but l think the Accurascale is better but the Bachmanns run very well on my layout never had a problem and it was the same price as the Accurascale .l will look you up and thanks for the comment all the best Colin.
@@Mossendrailway00 Hi Colin. Have you watched Sam's Trains as he reviews the Accurascale class 31, if no check it out
@@Mossendrailway00 Proper Chuffed. Hylton is reviewing a Bachmann class 31.
I beat myself up every time i buy anything for the railway. Purely because its so expensive. But enjoy it!! Thats why we do the hobby. You can spend that money on a weekly food shop. At least this will last you. Once its weathered, it will look fantastic 👌
Hi Steve thanks for your lovely comment things for this hobby is getting to expensive for me ,I will be making a video on the weathering so you can see if its fantastic l do hope it dose,All the best Colin.
I am shocked, not sure to call you a turncoat or a traitor... More importantly you've upset your wife, how to fix it? I know, buy her a nice new cookbook and some oven gloves, and some oven cleaner, I'm sure that will secure back into her favour. And now the real important bit, weathering the model. I think I'd go for a light dusting of neutral grey across the top and see how that tones it. What I would ask is that you photograph the process so we can share in your process and thoughts. Of course, that might be after you're out of hospital if you follow my kindly advice regarding the wife. 🙄😶🌫😉
Thanks for the lovely comment you did make me laugh , l will film it for you l have 2 or 3 locos to do so l will do them all all together ,All the best Colin .
Very nice weathering. They look just like I remember them.
Thanks for the lovely comment .Hope all is well with you all the best Colin
Just discovered your channel and subscribed - I’ll be looking up some your previous videos. Great looking layout and love the details you’ve added - police car with flashing blues is a real bonus.
Thank you for the wonderful comment . I think the police car is very good too and very easy to do lm not to good with electrics and glad you liked the layout. All the best Colin .
I have 1 of the X LMS parcels van in BR blue...replaced bogies with Bachmann LMS bogies...look great...
Thank you for your comment and the info all the best Greg. Colin.
Nice to see someone else who enjoys Lima rolling stock! I remember being impressed with a Lima Parcel Van and BR blue coach by how free rolling and good quality they seemed, at least compared to some of their locomotives.
l love Lima rolling stock and the locos l dont have a big budget for my hobby so its good for me .Thank you for comment lm glad you like them to.All the best Colin.
Hi Colin. My names Adam. Absolutely wonderful videos!! I’ve learned so much. I was wondering if you could do a video showing a complete pan around to see your setup in all its glory!? I would love to see the complete Colin moss end extravaganza!! Thanks in advance!!
Hi Adam thank you for your lovely comment and l will do a video which shows a 360 pan round of my layout l have not done that thanks for the idea .All the best Colin
Wonderful! 🙂 With a little work these ex.LMS parcels vans can easily become really nice models - replacement cast ventilators and a bogie change being the main priority. However, your weathering has really made a huge difference! 👍 _PS - yes, there is one on Ewhurst Green (albeit in CLC livery)_ 😉
Hi Colin thanks for the lovely comment and lm glad you have one .Hope all is well with you Colin.
@@Mossendrailway00 Colin, I'm fair to middling. And you? Some of the Lima models are still credible today - even the Mk1 coaches with a little work (detailing /flushglazing /bogies) can look superb and the finished model can catch people out. SEF flushglazing works well on Lima coaches as the model's passenger sidelights (windows) were produced to a consistent precise standard so the the SEF units fit really well. ATB - Colin
Nice additions to your fleet, Colin, and they look the part to me ...cheers James 🙂👍
Thanks James all the best and take care .Colin.
Looks good it doesn’t matter what other looks like it is what matters to you and what you’re happy with 😊
You are right it doesn't matter what others think but l would love to be better weathering . Thanks for the lovely comment Athony all the best Colin .
great video, and if you are not spraying a lot, these budget brushes are ideal.
Thanks for the lovely comment ,l get good results with the cheep air brush so a no brainer , All the best Colin.
Thank you so much for taking the time out to explain your painting setup. I had N gauge trains as a kid but lost interest in my teens. I've recently regained an interest in the hobby thanks to RUclips Channels like Mossend. So at the age of 52, I've taken over 1/2 the garage to get back into the hobby with OO (DC). Most of my rolling stock is 2nd hand eBay purchases, so learning skills like painting to refresh the stock is very helpful. Thanks again, Andy.
No thank you l should have made a video a year ago when l got my spray gun and second hand is good ,Thats all l buy l get new locos for xmass or birthdays when you start your layout put it on RUclips l would love to follow you doing it .Let me now when you do l will sub and be the 1st of many. All the best Colin.
