What a relaxing video! It was very interesting hearing what you`re saying, I think we all lose interest every now and then, but also watching you build that wall was very pleasing. I don`t have the patience to build one as you are doing. Keep up the good work.
Been through a similar thing the model railway layout saved the world year before last when the dog passed away from cancer bless his heart if it wasn't for me building model engines from card and the railway layout I probably wouldn't be sitting here enjoying it now
Who gives a damn what anyone else thinks, it’s for your pleasure. There will always be someone who thinks that they could do better, but never have! Well done, Bill.
Hi, considering there was no trains running, your video was strangely interesting..............Maybe it was your relaxed chat as you worked on your wall! Anyway about what gives us our Mojo, my own railway has had periods of inactivity over the years too. I am not one who builds a railway in a few months, then rips it up and builds another and another..........mine tend to be long term creations over many years, 10 years so far. I don't have a huge amount of time spare to work on my layout, so it has always been important for me that I can run trains for when I do get the odd five minutes here or there. My layout is in a converted garage off the lounge of our home, so it has to stay pretty tidy all the time. I think my current layout is my best so far, the track plan is interesting and I have areas I can operate as the fancy takes me, loco shed, goods yard, colliery or from one station to the other, like a shuttle service, or even put the bridge over the door I can run round and round. When I get tired or something frustrates me, or doesn't work, I walk away, leave it for a week or two then find I usually return to it usually by just running a loco around a bit, back and forth, then, oh what if I do this, then run that, then I'm into a full session without realising it. My layout sure isn't finished, no lights in the buildings, no signals, and no trees, but it does have great track which is ballasted, electric points, works in DC and DCC with a simple flick of a switch, scenery and decent Scalescene buildings..............It's my little world to escape too and imagine a world past.........oh it's set in 1960's so steam and diesel. I do do RUclips videos, but only when I feel there is something worth reporting on. It usually takes me a day to film something, then edit it all and upload it. it's hard work, so I envy those who manage to do a video every week. I don't care much about numbers or viewing figures...............I do a video when I want to, mainly for my own record of the layouts progress. I do like the commaradery of other modellers on RUclips though. Oh my I am sorry for rambling on so much, but you did ask for our thoughts..............All the very best Dave.
I know what you mean about making videos, my grandson does all the technical stuff behind the videos which i'm lost at i will look up your channel and have a look. All the best- Col
My lost mojo began with my mother in law passing away and my father in law moving onto our property in a manufactured home I had to set up. With that and the farm to run and my full time job I couldn't make myself enjoy my hobby when there was so much to do. Then winter came and of course it was too cold to do anything in the shed. Now it's spring, and perhaps I can get restarted. Still got lots of other things to do but all work and no play...
Wow Sir I agree with everything you have said. You hit the nail on the head. I have been modelling since I was five several times over the years I have had interruptions. School moving home many times. Career moves . No money for anything but my wife and Child. Bereavements etc. But Even though I couldn't model I kept drawing Layout plans etc. One of my old Girlfriends was jealous of my model railway and destroyed it. I didn't Marry her. 😂. I am a retired Widow now on my own so planning permission for a Model Railway went through with no objections. I am 68 now and enjoying the Hobby more than ever. Making Metcalfe Buildings has been a great Mojo Beater they are a great motivational help. Enjoy your layout it's great. Best wishes Richard Canterbury
Railways are better than women anyway lol, But they have the same concepts they cost tons and are hard work but it pays out in the end. She sounds like a real Bitch lol. All the best- Col
I haven't started any model railway yet, but I get what you're talking about. Bottom line: If you're having fun and do the best you can, what else can you really want? I've done some crazy projects since retiring, like the 1/32 box models of the cars I've owned. They look plain silly, but the building was really fun. IF I lose my mojo, I'm either way to old to have one, OR I've done everything of my 20+ projects. I have normally 4 projects up and running at the same time, just for the fun of it. Puzzles, short sleeved shirts, Japanese, model railway coming soon, genealogical research, plastic models.... the list is pretty long. If you lose the mojo again, or if you find someone elses lying about, just do a video. Help can come from many directions, not only about locos....
Hi Carl, I've just started my next layout after having moved house twice in the space of a year,I don't mind admitting, I've missed it, I know what you mean about electrics, wiring is a mystery to me, and that's where I tend to loose my way as well, but, it'll be good to get back into it again, anyway, thanks for sharing, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Hi from grandads little railway, just subscribed to your channel think you’re doing a great job with your layout and I can’t believe you have just sat there and glued cat litter together, oh my god l haven’t the patience for that well done look forward to seeing more from you ….Graham
Thank you for your comment and subscription. I didn't think i had the patience to stick cat litter together but its strangely relaxing. All the best- Col
Enjoyed this video and your views on getting over the loss of losing your mojo witch I’ve had a few times over the last couple of years thanks for sharing cheers Al
Hello a great video, a few times I have suffered from not wanting to do anything model railway related. I have quite a large layout that in the early days I rushed to lay the track ASAP to get trains running, in parts the trackwork was poor but I put up with derailments. Over the last 3 months or so I stayed away from the loft due to not wanting to face up to the track problem and getting a bit down looking on RUclips at layouts I follow all running perfectly. In the end my ordered Cavalex Class 56 arrived, took 1 look at it and got the inspiration to get back in the loft and start to put right the bad track, slowly I'm getting through the parts that need replacing as I do it I am more than enthused about other projects, now having the time is the issue but a good issue for me to have. Thanks for sharing this topic. Happy modelling
Hello, so glad you got back into the hobby. I started again last Oct and glad I did too. I enjoy your videos and listening to you here encourages many of us. Scratch building is my new excitement.
Hi Col, I quite enjoyed listening to you waffling on whilst you were building your stone wall. My lost mojo started with a laser cut kit I was building for a layout. Things weren't going right, and I just lost my way and interest in it, which spilt over onto the layout build. So, after many months of not doing anything modelling related, I found inspiration after joining the Railway Modellers Club. The inspiration of seeing what others were doing and the help and support I received fired me up to get back into it... Cheers James 🙂👍
Hi, I'm much in the same boat that you were in. I'd love to get a channel up and running and show some of the projects I've started but I never seem to get around to it. Keep up your good work I enjoy watching your videos.
I've lost my complete mojo was going to start a model railway being a ex railwaymen at Sheffield, But I lost my wife of 47 yrs 7 months ago and at the minute I don't seem to want to do anything that may bring me joy it just seems wrong.
Tony I'm sorry to hear about your wife, I do know what you are going through l lost my 7 year old son and my wife left me.She ran off with her boss a her work we were together for 29 years. Things do get a bit better in time but you learn to live with it. Things are still very raw at the moment, so would say a railway will help you think of something else just try it know it seems wrong l felt the same. Your wife would like you to have some joy im shore she would all the best Colin at Mossend railway oo.
As referring to my previous comment posted on my other account, I hope you've started your new railway and I would love to see it when its underway. All the best- Col
That is so funny🤣 I am sure I received the same comment on one of my videos. I am on the same train as you- I can’t see spending £300 on a loco. All my locos are AC Keep doing what you are doing. Cheers Charlie
My layout is a bit on the small side and all the points are manual but I get by. It is a great mystery as to why one video does better than the other and when I look at larger channels I am baffled. I just keep plodding away trying to offer something different. My wife keeps asking me “why are you posting all the time?” 🤣🤣🤣 It is nit boring, it is honest and entertaining. I sometimes do other videos which are not train related- they don’t always do well but what the H… 👍
I find this Hobby So much more than “Just Trains”- It is Therapeutic and Has helped me to Break a Lifetime Drinking Habit for which I’m eternally grateful- I like the Modelling aspect, especially bringing old locos and carriages back to life which I then film and post on Hornby oo gauge page etc, tho if all goes to plan I like to think I’ll have a RUclips channel soon. Nice chat many thanks 👍🏻
