An empty east bound grainer at E. Fisher River, MP 1297, and then I move to the top of the cut and catch a westbound Z train as it stops on the main to allow the eastbound stack to clear the main. It was fairly windy that day which allowed the Z to sneak up on me, normally you can hear them blow the horn for a crossing about 4 miles before Fisher river. Buffer filled with sand to protect during a derailment should one occur

    • @PacificNWRailfan
      @PacificNWRailfan 5 дней назад

      The two cars in the middle of the train are there because it is a Canadian National oil train and up in Canada they operate their oil trains with one locomotive on the head end, one mid train, and one on the rear. BNSF just took the mid train locomotive and put it up front and left the two buffer cars in place. Most likely they will place one of the locomotive back in the mid train position once it reaches Canada, that's why they left the two buffers cars in place. Thanks for watching my friend!

  • @KCTopDawg
    @KCTopDawg 5 дней назад

    Nice catches Dave! Never saw the buffer cars in the middle of the train before. Is there a reason why that's done that way? Because sometimes the loads in and out of KC be setup to run 2x1,2x2, 2x3 or 3x2x0.

    • @PacificNWRailfan
      @PacificNWRailfan 5 дней назад

      Thanks Darryl. This was a CN Oil train and up in Canada they run them 1X1X1. BNSF just took the mid train DPU and stuck it up front and left the buffer cars in place. Most likely the will put the DPU back between the buffer cars once it reaches Canada. Thanks for watching my friend!

      It was normal length oil train with only 97 tank cars. It was an empty Canadian National oil train and up in Canada they run one locomotive on the head end, one mid train DPU and another DPU bringing up the rear. BNSF just took the mid train DPU and stuck it up front. Thanks for watching my friend.
