Here at DoingOutdoors we’ll be on a journey turning a 13 acre plot of mixed woodland and pasture into a small farm. Hopefully producing enough food, water and energy to support our family and maybe make enough money selling the surplus to give up the day job! There are no mains services on the site so off grid systems will be our main focus, loads to do and lots to learn. We'll also be doing some fishing, shooting and bushcraft on the way.

Looks great! Looking at the soil in the onion patch though you could definitely do with a healthy layer of mulch! Maybe consider some cover cropping as well, can work wonders and saves on weeding! All the best 🙏

They were something I pulled out of a skip whilst working on a building site, I’m sure they are purlins which are part of the structure of large warehouse type buildings. Hope this helps.

May I ask why refrigerate the meat after slaughter? How would you know it is a bad piece of meat, sick animal, or poisoned? How do you store the other cuts that you didnt cook? Did you freeze it? How long can it stay in the freezer before you cook it? Vacuum sealed correct? Im learning. Thank you for your video. Want to start a farm myself
Generally when they're that young the only thing you'd have to worry about is worms, sheep parasites don't cross with humans typically. You also generally don't have to worry about parasites so long as you're giving them a decent life. That means minerals, and more to eat than just grass. You at least need alfalfa or clover too. But like goats sheep will definitely get down on some trees and other browse as well. As far as refrigerating it's best to let them hang for a few days in a 35-45 °F ice box if you can typically that's not always possible if you don't have a spare. One parasites and bacteria, but it firms the meat up and makes processing easier. Back to the decent life you'll also get a way better quality animal giving the minerals better forage and supplementing w a little grain say 4-8 oz a day. Where I'm at between mineral, alfalfa and supplementary barely the costs in that are equal or less than the animal itself maybe $200 for a year khatadin generally will go for about $200 here at 6 months old, a bigger Cheviot or something similar to what this gentleman had for like $300+ It's definitely worth it in the quality of the product to go that extra mile but also to give the animal the best life it can have.
I can see now why farmers care for there animals so much it's not fair but that's life well filmed ❤.

Hi Declan, I’m glad you’re enjoying the chicken videos. I only have White Rock chickens that I’m breeding at the moment, good laying birds but not particularly big for the table. Benj, any advice on finding broiler suppliers in the UK? Im having a real struggle and im considering just buying some large fowl instead.

How did your meat chickens come ?
Not very good, they didn’t grow any faster or bigger than any other breed or cross that I’ve grown before. Apart from the Ross Cobb birds that I grew last year which grew extremely fast

Hi can you recommend what to grow for a plot about a quarter of the size of yours ..probably just 4 or 5 staples
First of all I’d start with things that you most like to eat. Potatoes are quite easy to grow and can go into a lot of meals. Onions and garlic are always on my list of must grow vegetables also runner beans are easy to grow and good to eat. And I like carrots so always give them a go but can be tricky to germinate sometimes. Try not to get bogged down with growing too many different varieties at first. Hope this helps 👍🏻
