    I did an Internet search for nitrogen fixing trees, I wasn’t aware of them. The closing shot with the pigs was funny!

    You look really happy in this one mate! What books are you reading ATM to teach yourself?

      Yes it felt good putting some trees in the ground with the sun shining and bee’s buzzing about. I’ve only got two books that I’ve had for years and that’s the vegetable expert and the fruit expert, brilliant books though. All other info I get is through RUclips. 👍🏻

      @@doingoutdoors875 it did look nice, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'll take a look at those books, I'm also going to buy a chicken book once I remember what it was called! We've bought an incubator now, so hopefully in 5-6 weeks I'll be ready to have some eggs from you 😁

      I have started my incubator today just to make sure it’s running properly. I’m going to do a run very soon just to check fertility rate. I do have a good chicken book it’s The Haynes manual for chickens I also have one for pigs too

    How come orchards grow all apples is that old way of thinking as your are growing a different way I get what your saying, is this a better way ?

    • @doingoutdoors875
      @doingoutdoors875  Год назад

      Supposed to be a better way. A traditional orchard or mono orchard that only grows one type of tree like apple will be more susceptible to pest and disease problems. once one tree gets a pest problem it can pass easily between all the other trees in that orchard. Also they will all be drawing the same type of nutrients from the ground which would mean you’d need to feed a lot more. By not having the same type of tree planted next to each other the chances of spreading pest/disease problems is reduced, nitrogen fixing trees will put nitrogen in the ground for the other fruit tree’s to use so no need to feed Or at least that’s what I’ve learned, I’m now putting it into practice.

    To speed up the time to harvest fruit, buy as big as possible trees and plant using Ellen White method putting in a plastic tube to enable water direct to roots to avoid drought issues. Possibly look at espalier to make apple harvesting easier too.

      I looked at some bigger trees but the cost was staggering….. £100 each.
      I’ve not seen the plastic pipe method, I’ll look into it 👍🏻 I have looked into espalier but the potential yield is a lot lower compared to a bush…. At least that’s what my book says??

    B&m £6 for fruit trees at the mo .. think a job for your children over the next 12 months watering the trees

      I’m sure those trees ore on a M26 rootstock? I’m using the mm106 rootstock so I can have bigger trees/yield. For some reason the mm106 are a lot more expensive?? Good idea for watering the trees however getting the kids to do something I’ve asked might be difficult
