BACK WITH A BROKEN BIKE - REBUILDING A DRZ400 ENGINE
The Suzuki DRZ 400 I've been enjoying broke. This video shows you how I fixed it. The cam chain tensioner broke, allowing the timing (synchronisation of the top and bottom ends of the engine) jump. This meant that pistons and valves smashed into one another.
I had to learn how to rebuild the top end of the engine. The most useful things that helped me do this were friends, a valve spring compressor, a Clymer manual and parts from eBay.
A very brief breakdown of how it went:
Remove engine from frame, remove top end of engine, rebuild top end of engine, replace top end of engine with new cam chain tensioner and gaskets, place engine back in bike, ride bike again.

    As someone looking to get into biking, but living in London with no interest in doing long camping trips etc…how would you say this CT125 stands up against say a Grom (MSX) or a Suzuki VanVan. I’ll be mainly pottering around suburbs of London, might ride it into the city (but on avg 40mph motorway and typical congested inner city London roads) with the occasional trip on say a motorway to see friends who live just out of London (1hr away). I was torn between a Grom and VanVan but saw this and now completely confused 😂😂

    • @EpohDerf
      @EpohDerf 2 месяца назад

      Stirring your own gears with a clutch feels nice and the CT125 doesn't let you do that. I've never tried a grom but would love to. However, if your choices, I reckon the best for rough roads is a van van (get a 200 if you can find one). As for motorway, the CT25 will do it, perhaps even all day but that's not what it is for. If you can try all 3, that's going to be the biggest help in deciding. If you can't, get one rather than deliberating too long. The best bike is the one you're on! If you don't like it, just sell and try the next.

    Honda should upgrade this 125 to 15 hp, 9 is not a lot. They could also make a GT version a bit larger with 300 cc engine. Honda really should make classic looking bikes.

    • @EpohDerf
      @EpohDerf 2 месяца назад

      I agree that 9hp is a bit lacking. However, I think 9hp is the byproduct of making an engine that will run and run and run. It is understressed. I'd love to try on with a 300cc engine.

      @o00scorpion00o 2 месяца назад

      @@EpohDerf They have 15 Hp in their PCX don't they ? that's a useful extra bit of power I think Honda should make a bike like this with more power not even call it the cub with proper analogue speedo and the same transmission. Having said that there are many roads I can travel on here in Ireland that are more than suitable for the power of the C125. I do have a 2007 Yamaha T-Max 500 that is fairly bet up , I got it for learning, it's fast for all roads but I would like the C125 but it is rather pricy.

    The new 125 doesn't have twice the power does it ? I thought it was around the same 9 Hp and much the same torque ?

      I had the c90 dynoed at 5.13hp and the new C125 is 9.65hp so it is almost doubled, yes!

      @@EpohDerf True, fuel injection has probably been one of the greatest advancements in motorbikes along with ABS, anything after that I think should be optional such as TFT screens etc. I have an electric car with touch screen and having to adjust the heating temp and fan through menus along with the radio is infuriating but this is common for many newer cars today which is why I think cars/bikes should be tech for those who want it and cheap for those who don't want it.

      @@o00scorpion00o I think you're on to something there. A touch screen to control things when a knob, slider or button was just fine seems overkill. I've been in a few electric cars and whilst they have some novelties and are undeniably very quick in most cases, they leave me cold so far.

      If you mean Tony Robinson, perhaps there is something in that... I used to listen to audio books read by him. Often fell asleep listening to him; perhaps by osmosis I absorbed some of his idiosyncrasies? If the chap with a hat and a Wiltshire accent, I only wish I had a proper one.

      What a life. A CT125 and ballooning in USA every year. I've only been in a balloon once and it was absolutely brilliant. Serene would be the best word to describe it once the roaring of the gas stopped. Go out in the poor weather, the CT can take it...

It was just a case of being in the right plaice at the right thyme. If I am at a balloon festival, I shall ask for JD and get very drunk!

    It’s been almost 40 years since I was last in New York (Manhattan). Strangely, my memories of New York pretty much align with what you describe. I guess the core of what New York is has not changed much. I was there for about a month for work. I decided that I didn’t want to suffer that much. 😂 I’m more of a cottage in the woods kind of person.
